To be frank I got the same sense but if prince were my dog or any dog generally imma be sure nothing bad happens too, but I gotta say I'm smiles ear to ear seeing how Joel does the similar methodologies myself and my family does because animals are like children but by no means should a prong or e collar used because their miserably flawed which I say this in respect of coming to terms try one on to see what an animal experiences, it's no better. Animals are the reflections of ourselves as yet we are the most immature species on the planet but it doesn't mean nothing can't be fixed. On another video of Beckman's I shared an experience my family is known for where we failed trying to rehabilitate an animal we rescued that was nearly a fresh new born that not even products worked, it's all about trial and error but specifically being able to tribulate some things can't be achieved. It was a distasteful experience but one that we know we have tried everything but hope it washes over to the good. Always expect the worse but hope for the best in the end, unironically something my lowly old man said that is actually true despite he wasn't a good being and still isn't but some merits came from that saying that I find useful that anyone can simply use into consideration where their lives can become and will become better manageable. I hope to run something one day and in the process of it now but I hope it'll bring the world into a better spectrum than what it's been a has been of for too long. What Joel does makes me proud in myself for what I do try to do for animals no matter how hopeless it becomes what matters is the effort of trying rather than not trying in my opinion.
I didn't get that from Joel. he meant more in a general sense, like "he's not allowed to get away with bad things, ever" because once you let them get away with it, they entertain the idea that they can keep on doing it. Besides, Prince would have corrected him anyway if he had done anything. There are certain corrections that Joel will never be able to give because he's not a dog, and sometimes dogs just need to learn from other dogs. It's much like if you get a recommendation from a friend versus a stranger stranger. You're more apt to listen to your friend than a stranger, even if the stranger knows more than your friend. Dogs are more apt to listen to dogs on certain subjects. That's because a human is not a dog and if a dog, who is an equal, has to tell you what is right and the alpha doesn't correct them, then they must be right for giving it (Even though we are the alphas with our own pets.)
Haha it can definitely be taken that way, just cuz of how Joel phrases things. But I think he’s just trying to help people understand the attitude they need to have with their dog.

He’s concise, gets straight to the point without all the usual trainer babble. Joel’s typical video is short, tells you what he’s going to do and does it. All the others take too long.
It's always so lovely to see a dog who's never really had a proper play session with another dog experience it for the first time. The ears back and little jumps and the play bow. They just bring a smile to my face to see them enjoying themselves.
He's very intense a lot of times, I think it's so the dogs know that he is confident and dominant. He even looks intimidating lol, obviously he's not a big scary guy but that's what I think when I see this man carry himself..
I have seen a lot of your videos and I have to say that I think Prince is just such a balanced and 'together' dog. If there was ever an advertisement for the success of your training methods then he is it !
I have a European female Dobermann. She has a very similar temperament to Prince. She has absolutely no badness in her. Even when small dogs show aggression towards her. She just totally avoids them!
I like how she was concerned that this big black dangerous dog is coming out and then he’s behaves nothing less than expected of a Prince! Damn he’s beautiful

Man I love this guy! I wanna fly my wife and dogs to get this training! I’ve told my wife all of this but maybe she needs to hear it from another person. He trains the owner and the dog simultaneously which is great! Most people want well behaved dogs but when one person is correcting and another person is encouraging bad behaviors it’s hopeless.
I love the concept of “I’m the boss,” particularly with Aussies who were bred to make confident quick decisions and need to learn to let humans call the shots! 💪🏼💪🏼
I personally prefer the word leader. You are in charge for better or for worse, the only real option is to follow your example, and the dog should look to you for what to do next without having to be told every little cue. They should want to please you, without the "I am higher than you aura". I want to walk next to my dog through life.
Don't ya love it... People get an Aussie because they are cool looking, but then they can't get the dog to do anything because Aussies need a job, are independent and usually confident. People... do research about the dog breed!
I have a 10 week old Aussie German Shepherd mix and he is the most determined dog I've ever had! It's ok cause I'm pretty determined too. He sits, shakes, lays, drops things and brings me his water bowl to sink. Of course he goes out the door like house is on fire but what I like is after his graceful exit (lol) he looks back to see me. I've been training him a little on that isn't he too young for gentle leader? Oh it's gonna come. This breed is crazy wild. I'll win.
25:40] "Mico come!" Sits by himself. Mico is such a good boy, he just sits there and watches the guy at the end of his leash. No stress, no nothing, just watching his guy, just watching his guy, just watching his guy. That is a good dog. Look at that, Mico's attention never really strays from Beckman. That is a good dog. Doesn't look like much, but that is what you want.
I actually have two very reactive dogs and I listened to your advice and ended up diving in successfully to a dog park and the dogs adapted very quickly (me being ready for potential problems and not being reckless). Surprisingly both dogs were more on the skittish side after they assimilated with the other dogs. Which shows to me the reactivity is fear based. I've been told this is a common Corona thing because it was hard to socialize my puppies during this time. Anyway, thanks to advice from this channel I was able to get them comfortable in the dog park pack. In fact I actually was able to have both off leash and it was absolutely fine and they both responded to recall. Seems impossible if you had seen them just a year before when I could not even walk them at the same time. I still have trouble with the lease reactivity, but I'm working on that.
The first time my dog ever thought about counter surfing I was quietly watching him from the living room, him in the kitchen. I stood up on my couch silently and waited. When he popped up onto the counter (which looks directly at me on the couch from this angle) I clapped my hands and yelled “Get Down!!!” loud enough for the neighbors to hear 🤣 The message was so clear my lab/pit mix NEVER tried again. Like Joel says, it’s all in the attitude! Love your videos!!
Dog owners need a couple of these basic sessions before bringing a dog home, in the same way that you get a driving license. It would prevent a lot of issues. I think some owners, especially first time ones think their dog comes ready trained and can understand commands without any action, repetition, praise or corrections.
@@paulogaspar8295 then you must not have come across any issues with owners who haven’t put any effort into training their dog and think it’s acceptable to let it assert dominance, be aggressive to others, leap up to anyone and everyone, bark constantly etc. I was bitten on the back of my leg by an untrained Staffy whilst on a bike ride who ran off from its owner. I had teeth marks and a bruise 10cm x 10cm present the next day, had to go to the doctors to get antibiotics and pay out of my own money for two doses because who knows what diseases the dog was carrying. The bruise and scabs took a month to heal. The owner claimed her dog had never bitten anyone before which I didn’t believe. I then randomly saw them again a few weeks later and the dog then had a muzzle on. It was lucky that I could respond appropriately... imagine if it was a small child or baby?

a historic bit of info, dogs are usually walked on the left, because when the servant went hunting with his noble master, he would lead the horse on the right (his stronger hand) and the dog on the left (with his non-dominant hand).
This falls in line with my very highly regarded trainer’s advice. Albeit a little different version but same thing emphasized: discipline, structure and consistency. She also recommended regular doggy day care for socialization.
Aussies have a crazy all their own. I tried positive reinforcement training with two other trainers and my 11 month dog laughed at it. You're the reason that I can loose leash walk my dog now. She no longer surfs counters or jumps up on me. We are currently working on meeting dogs and people reactivity. I watched your video before walking her this morning. I decided enough was enough and immediately put your training tips from this video into action. We passed three people with dogs. I was actually able to control that crazy Aussie behavior. I was downright impressed. Wow! Your training works. Thank you thank you thank you! THANK YOU.
So true about lack of socialization. Most people don’t want to go through the “possibility “ of problems so they end up giving up to the status quo, which is lack of socialization. My Aussie is very similar. I am afraid of what he’ll do, so who has the “fear”? It is I, and now I have to choose to give him the gift of normal dog friends.
Thank you for this one! I have a Shepherd who is undersocialized and leash-reactive (my fault, but I'd prefer to blame covid)! Today, on a walk, when my 2 year old Shepherd was starting to get worked up about a Yellow Lab on a doorstep 2 houses away I made sure to keep a loose leash, and made sure not to feel or display any tension to him in my body language or leash... I calmly and gently told him "quiet" a couple times (as opposed to using my usual "command tone"), then a "heel" while making sure to impart NO pressure on the leash and never using a commanding tone. I also assured him, "It's okay" about three times. For the first time ever, when we passed next to the walkway that led to the deck the Lab was on HE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK!! I couldn't believe it. So, I'm thinking that Leash Reactivity is all about the dog being stressed about meeting an unknown dog due to his feeling that he is prevented from the option of running away (if he needs to) because he feels the tension of the (non-loose) leash - plus the owner's body language telegraphing fear and concern about how the meeting is going to be bad...? Is that what is happening with leash reactivity? The dog feels that it doesn't have escape options because he feels the leash? Thanks again for your videos! After 14 months of watching two other great trainers, your stuff is really helping because you are really clear about how you are showing the dog you are the boss.
I have had the same situation with my 2 and a half year old border collie, I have seen 2 trainers and this videos have helped me so much more, but still I haven't succeed about sometimes barking to some other dog that is walking around .
@@jeannettediaz5963 it's human nature to try and correct when they are barking - have you tried praise when they are walking and not barking? Try to find dogs and get close enough so your dog has seen it but not so close that it barks and give praise or treats as you decrease the distance. It won't happen in one go, but over time it will improve, especially if you are confident and reassuring with your voice and body language (lncluding lead tension). Also with those types of dogs, tiring them is hard work - maybe try some play / fetch before you leave your house first to get the excited energy out of them. Then do 20-30 mins of walking at a good pace, 20 mins of play then 20-30 mins of fast paced walking again. Do that at least 2, ideally 3 times a day and you will see a difference
K Mine definitely used to be a dog park dog. I was only 13 when I got him and didn’t know a ton about dog training so when we’d go to dog parks I would just tell my puppy to figure it out and stick up for himself. Bad idea. He was almost drowned by two poodles who backed him into a river, he was attacked by a ton of pitbulls and now hates that breed. He started getting into scrappy dominance fights around 8-10 months which lasted a while. He’s an amazing dog, even a retired psychiatric service dog, but if he’s left in a situation where there’s an out of control dog trying to get at him, he doesn’t just stand around and let it happen. Before anyone points out his reactivity vs. service dog past, we did extensive exposure training which involved letting him know I was going to be keeping him safe. I never abused the SD community and my dog was a great example of what an SD should be.
I would like to see fence and yard guarding. Mine goes off at bikes, skateboards, strollers, and joggers going by our yard. I cannot get him to come or catch him when this happens.
I have been very blessed to have dogs in my adult life that do not have any aggression or reactivity issues but I still watch these videos lol you just handle things so wonderfully it still helps me learn how to be with my dogs! Editing to add: I love how you just tell it just as it is to the dog owners. You are straightforward and no nonsense which I think all of us dog owners need sometimes!

I’ve been trying to condition “all positive” but the first time I tried the Beckman clap, hey, and grab it really got his attention. I call public dog parks “Fight Club”. There’s always one owner who doesn’t know their dog or properly trained/socialized them and then is shocked they misbehave.
Not "crazy dogs." They just have lazy humans that don't train them. Also not a fan of dog parks. Unpredictable dogs and disgusting folks that don't pick up after their dogs. And there are plenty of poop bag dispensers and poop scoopers to use for FREE!!

The best way is to sign up for training classes with a competent trainer. Don't stop at only one class. You must continue to take classes as the first class is only the basics. Your dog will then be able to socialize with dogs whose owners are as invested in having a well behaved companion as you. People think it's too much work. Well, it is work but it's fun time spent improving your relationship with your dog in a controlled environment. I always tell people they have the dog they have earned. Put the work in and reap the rewards.

Who could not love these instructional videos? Beckman is the very first trainer that makes every move clear and that is SALT. I appreciate these videos bc I adopted a 2 yr old German Shepherd who has been left alone for days at a time. She had no social skills and she has a bad problem on and off the leash. She bows her neck forward like a horse and pulls me. I found the video this morning on how to fix this and we are going to work it out starting today. Thank you Mr Beckman
I'm a new dog Mom to a 3yr old 80 lb Pitbull and I am learning soooo much!! Thank You ❤️❤️ And the gentle leader is the difference between a nice walk and a half marathon in 20 minutes.
I needed this video for the gentle leader because my 7 month, rottweiler mix reacts to other dogs horrible. He does look @ me but it's hard to get the attention sometimes. He sits then he's staring them down. If I pop the leash he doesn't react like the way he should, he targets them but it's high energy play mode, he whines when being taken away sometimes from high energy people too. I stay trying to keep him @ 0%. It's much but everyday keep@ it.🐾💌
On one of your videos you mentioned that "dogs need to adjust them selves to which dog they are playing with"... At that moment i was proud of my dog :) My 1.9 Y Beagle is exactly like that, he is very gentle with dogs his size and lower and very tough with much bigger dogs, he never attacks and always knows if it is ok to approach the other dog, I'm amazed by him, I never saw dog do those things, until him. He is very balanced, he is mini "Prince". Had dogs / been dog Walker most of my life, but this time i did it step by step with that dog, only problem that it is hard to "train" my girlfriend to do it right, each time i have 2 steps progress, she is pulling him 1 step back, but we are on the right way 🤪 Now I'm working on the leash with your tips, amazing! He was good before but now he is even better! Thank you very much for your videos and for your very simple explanations, i hate when dogs trainers talk a lot and do nothing with almost zero results, you and Sizer are the only once that i fined very helpful. Is he trying to herd Prince? That walk up to a slow almost "stalk" right to Prince's face and the lots of eye contact as you mentioned kinda gave me that impression. Aren't those things kind of typical of most herding breeds?
Aussies are independent and they do need a job but they also love to work with their handlers as long as the handler is the leader. They really need good firm leadership. My daughters has 2 and I just got a black tri male puppy. They are really fun dogs to share your life with as long as they get lots and lots exercise and not on a leash. Hiking, cycling, swimming, tour skiing, snowshoeing, agility fly ball, anything that makes their brain work. We take ours to pubs, walks in busy urban environments, dog parks. They are not a pet they are a life style.
The “unconscious” affection humans give dogs is so maddening to the trainer in me. People give affections without thinking of their animals state of mind.
My Grandfather raised Australian Shepard. They are beautiful dogs but so very protective of Grandpa. They were also very protective over his herd of sheep.
I have a border collie that used to take me for walks. I always feared she would choke herself. Then I got a Gentle Leader. Once she got used to it, the walks were loose leash after that. It was weird....she knew when she didn't have it on and revert back to pulling. But always with the Gentle Leader on, it was a loose leash walk. It was the best purchase I ever made for my dog.
The beginning behaviour looked exactly like how my westie used to be (well, MOSTLY used to) but she’d approach a dog and a ant to sniff it and everything,, but the minute they tried to socialise (sniffing her at all) back she’d nip them, with very little warning nowadays she’s so much better. it’s almost like she just didn’t know doggy language and saw the other dogs as merely a thing for her to sniff/chase. so like she was simultaneously, confident in approaching, but uncertain about being approached
i just want to say that i see in the title "reactive dog" and then i see the video and the dog see other dog and doesnt bark or get excited. I wish my reactive dog was this way LOL
My adopted 6 year old female border collie we got in August of 2022 is soooooo much like Dusty, except she doesn’t swim and she doesn’t get on counters or furniture. Plus, she is super comfortable around people. But ALL the rest… she is damn near identical.

Seems impossible if you had seen them just a year before when I could not even walk them at the same time. I still have trouble with the lease reactivity, but I'm working on that.

The first time my dog ever thought about counter surfing I was quietly watching him from the living room, him in the kitchen. I stood up on my couch silently and waited. When he popped up onto the counter (which looks directly at me on the couch from this angle) I clapped my hands and yelled “Get Down!!!” loud enough for the neighbors to hear 🤣 The message was so clear my lab/pit mix NEVER tried again. Like Joel says, it’s all in the attitude! Love your videos!!
Dog owners need a couple of these basic sessions before bringing a dog home, in the same way that you get a driving license. It would prevent a lot of issues. I think some owners, especially first time ones think their dog comes ready trained and can understand commands without any action, repetition, praise or corrections.
that's kinda too much. A dog it's your responsability but you don't need to prove that you had come basic training to work well with your dog.
@@paulogaspar8295 then you must not have come across any issues with owners who haven’t put any effort into training their dog and think it’s acceptable to let it assert dominance, be aggressive to others, leap up to anyone and everyone, bark constantly etc.
I was bitten on the back of my leg by an untrained Staffy whilst on a bike ride who ran off from its owner. I had teeth marks and a bruise 10cm x 10cm present the next day, had to go to the doctors to get antibiotics and pay out of my own money for two doses because who knows what diseases the dog was carrying. The bruise and scabs took a month to heal.
The owner claimed her dog had never bitten anyone before which I didn’t believe. I then randomly saw them again a few weeks later and the dog then had a muzzle on. It was lucky that I could respond appropriately... imagine if it was a small child or baby?

a historic bit of info, dogs are usually walked on the left, because when the servant went hunting with his noble master, he would lead the horse on the right (his stronger hand) and the dog on the left (with his non-dominant hand).

This falls in line with my very highly regarded trainer’s advice. Albeit a little different version but same thing emphasized: discipline, structure and consistency. She also recommended regular doggy day care for socialization.

Aussies have a crazy all their own. I tried positive reinforcement training with two other trainers and my 11 month dog laughed at it. You're the reason that I can loose leash walk my dog now. She no longer surfs counters or jumps up on me. We are currently working on meeting dogs and people reactivity. I watched your video before walking her this morning. I decided enough was enough and immediately put your training tips from this video into action. We passed three people with dogs. I was actually able to control that crazy Aussie behavior. I was downright impressed. Wow! Your training works. Thank you thank you thank you! THANK YOU.
So true about lack of socialization. Most people don’t want to go through the “possibility “ of problems so they end up giving up to the status quo, which is lack of socialization. My Aussie is very similar. I am afraid of what he’ll do, so who has the “fear”? It is I, and now I have to choose to give him the gift of normal dog friends.

Thank you for this one! I have a Shepherd who is undersocialized and leash-reactive (my fault, but I'd prefer to blame covid)!
Today, on a walk, when my 2 year old Shepherd was starting to get worked up about a Yellow Lab on a doorstep 2 houses away I made sure to keep a loose leash, and made sure not to feel or display any tension to him in my body language or leash... I calmly and gently told him "quiet" a couple times (as opposed to using my usual "command tone"), then a "heel" while making sure to impart NO pressure on the leash and never using a commanding tone. I also assured him, "It's okay" about three times.
For the first time ever, when we passed next to the walkway that led to the deck the Lab was on HE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK!!
I couldn't believe it.
So, I'm thinking that Leash Reactivity is all about the dog being stressed about meeting an unknown dog due to his feeling that he is prevented from the option of running away (if he needs to) because he feels the tension of the (non-loose) leash - plus the owner's body language telegraphing fear and concern about how the meeting is going to be bad...?
Is that what is happening with leash reactivity? The dog feels that it doesn't have escape options because he feels the leash?
Thanks again for your videos! After 14 months of watching two other great trainers, your stuff is really helping because you are really clear about how you are showing the dog you are the boss.

I have had the same situation with my 2 and a half year old border collie, I have seen 2 trainers and this videos have helped me so much more, but still I haven't succeed about sometimes barking to some other dog that is walking around .
@@jeannettediaz5963 it's human nature to try and correct when they are barking - have you tried praise when they are walking and not barking? Try to find dogs and get close enough so your dog has seen it but not so close that it barks and give praise or treats as you decrease the distance. It won't happen in one go, but over time it will improve, especially if you are confident and reassuring with your voice and body language (lncluding lead tension). Also with those types of dogs, tiring them is hard work - maybe try some play / fetch before you leave your house first to get the excited energy out of them. Then do 20-30 mins of walking at a good pace, 20 mins of play then 20-30 mins of fast paced walking again. Do that at least 2, ideally 3 times a day and you will see a difference

Especially with a heeler. I have one too and he will probably remain that way. They are not dog park dogs
K Mine definitely used to be a dog park dog. I was only 13 when I got him and didn’t know a ton about dog training so when we’d go to dog parks I would just tell my puppy to figure it out and stick up for himself. Bad idea. He was almost drowned by two poodles who backed him into a river, he was attacked by a ton of pitbulls and now hates that breed. He started getting into scrappy dominance fights around 8-10 months which lasted a while. He’s an amazing dog, even a retired psychiatric service dog, but if he’s left in a situation where there’s an out of control dog trying to get at him, he doesn’t just stand around and let it happen. Before anyone points out his reactivity vs. service dog past, we did extensive exposure training which involved letting him know I was going to be keeping him safe. I never abused the SD community and my dog was a great example of what an SD should be.
I would like to see fence and yard guarding. Mine goes off at bikes, skateboards, strollers, and joggers going by our yard. I cannot get him to come or catch him when this happens.
I love this because you can tell that Backman knows dogs more than people... He communicates with them better than he does the owner.
I saw a curious non fearful dog he has some guts.
Love this! So many people think their dog is fearful when it more often than not is a multitude of other reasons.
The owner is fearful because they don't know how to react and correct the behavior.

I have been very blessed to have dogs in my adult life that do not have any aggression or reactivity issues but I still watch these videos lol you just handle things so wonderfully it still helps me learn how to be with my dogs!

I’ve been trying to condition “all positive” but the first time I tried the Beckman clap, hey, and grab it really got his attention. He circled around me with tail tucked and ears pinned as if to say “I’m sorry mommy!”. Progress! thank you!

My problem is finding balanced dog’s to socialize with mine. Everyone I know has crazy dogs. 🤦🏼♀️ And dog parks are awful.
I call public dog parks “Fight Club”. There’s always one owner who doesn’t know their dog or properly trained/socialized them and then is shocked they misbehave.
Not "crazy dogs." They just have lazy humans that don't train them. Also not a fan of dog parks. Unpredictable dogs and disgusting folks that don't pick up after their dogs. And there are plenty of poop bag dispensers and poop scoopers to use for FREE!!

The best way is to sign up for training classes with a competent trainer. Don't stop at only one class. You must continue to take classes as the first class is only the basics. Your dog will then be able to socialize with dogs whose owners are as invested in having a well behaved companion as you. People think it's too much work. Well, it is work but it's fun time spent improving your relationship with your dog in a controlled environment. I always tell people they have the dog they have earned. Put the work in and reap the rewards.

Who could not love these instructional videos? Beckman is the very first trainer that makes every move clear and that is SALT. I appreciate these videos bc I adopted a 2 yr old German Shepherd who has been left alone for days at a time. She had no social skills and she has a bad problem on and off the leash. She bows her neck forward like a horse and pulls me. I found the video this morning on how to fix this and we are going to work it out starting today.

I needed this video for the gentle leader because my 7 month, rottweiler mix reacts to other dogs horrible. He does look @ me but it's hard to get the attention sometimes. He sits then he's staring them down. If I pop the leash he doesn't react like the way he should, he targets them but it's high energy play mode, he whines when being taken away sometimes from high energy people too. I stay trying to keep him @ 0%. It's much but everyday keep@ it.🐾💌
On one of your videos you mentioned that "dogs need to adjust them selves to which dog they are playing with"... At that moment i was proud of my dog :)
My 1.9 Y Beagle is exactly like that, he is very gentle with dogs his size and lower and very tough with much bigger dogs, he never attacks and always knows if it is ok to approach the other dog, I'm amazed by him, I never saw dog do those things, until him.
He is very balanced, he is mini "Prince".
Had dogs / been dog Walker most of my life, but this time i did it step by step with that dog, only problem that it is hard to "train" my girlfriend to do it right, each time i have 2 steps progress, she is pulling him 1 step back, but we are on the right way 🤪

Is he trying to herd Prince? That walk up to a slow almost "stalk" right to Prince's face and the lots of eye contact as you mentioned kinda gave me that impression. Aren't those things kind of typical of most herding breeds?

Aussies are independent and they do need a job but they also love to work with their handlers as long as the handler is the leader. They really need good firm leadership. My daughters has 2 and I just got a black tri male puppy. They are really fun dogs to share your life with as long as they get lots and lots exercise and not on a leash. Hiking, cycling, swimming, tour skiing, snowshoeing, agility fly ball, anything that makes their brain work. We take ours to pubs, walks in busy urban environments, dog parks.
They are not a pet they are a life style.
The “unconscious” affection humans give dogs is so maddening to the trainer in me. People give affections without thinking of their animals state of mind.

My Grandfather raised Australian Shepard. They are beautiful dogs but so very protective of Grandpa. They were also very protective over his herd of sheep.
I have a border collie that used to take me for walks. I always feared she would choke herself. Then I got a Gentle Leader. Once she got used to it, the walks were loose leash after that. It was weird....she knew when she didn't have it on and revert back to pulling. But always with the Gentle Leader on, it was a loose leash walk. It was the best purchase I ever made for my dog.

The beginning behaviour looked exactly like how my westie used to be (well, MOSTLY used to)
but she’d approach a dog and a ant to sniff it and everything,, but the minute they tried to socialise (sniffing her at all) back she’d nip them, with very little warning
nowadays she’s so much better. it’s almost like she just didn’t know doggy language and saw the other dogs as merely a thing for her to sniff/chase. so like she was simultaneously, confident in approaching, but uncertain about being approached

My adopted 6 year old female border collie we got in August of 2022 is soooooo much like Dusty, except she doesn’t swim and she doesn’t get on counters or furniture. Plus, she is super comfortable around people. But ALL the rest… she is damn near identical.
