nd miata is one of the best modern sports cars I’ve ever owned. No driving modes need to be chosen, only one push of button to switch esc/tc off, lightweight, manual, torquey engine, reliability etc. It teaches you to be a better driver, let you know how to control your car on the limit and be a part with your car. People don’t understand miatas until they drive it.

Met Tom Matano at a Miata gathering in Sacramento a couple months ago. One thing he said that stuck with me was He wanted to build a fun car with the cost of ownership like a Corolla. Not just maintenance and gas mileage, but insurance too. He said that convertibles were more expensive to insure and that keeping the HP down, they could keep the car affordable.

As an 86 owner, I have great respect for Miatas and the efforts they've put into this platform. Always would love to come across with them as both the 86/brz and mx5 community seem to have somethings in common. Lightweight, RWD, High-Revving NA and most importantly, the handling and balance from both cars. Tackling through the twisities and mountain pass is where these types of cars truly shines.

Owning a Miata is a liberating experience. Especially if your coming from a Porsche Boxster. The Boxster is great but is higher maintenance and not as much fun to drive. Miata is lighter and much more nimble. It’s just the most nimble fun car I’ve ever driven and fast enough because it’s so light. When you own a Porsche you worry about mileage and it’s condition. The Miata is bullet proof and easy to live with. It’s cheap to buy and cheap to keep!!! Fun and easy to live with on a daily basis.

I started a Miata club in my state because the older generation of owners already had their club and with their retirements/free time, the younger crowd went by the wayside. So the new younger club has more modifications, helps with builds, have barbecues, and go on drives as well. @@aceofspades6667 : You have it exactly figured out, except I would advise that you buy NOW, and not wait a few months. Inventory will be low of the most desirable model -- which happens to be the one you want. Mazda is offering 0.9% financing for 60 months and no payments for the first three months right now -- no telling when they will change that. No payments for three months -- that's like another $1,000 off, on top of the below-market interest rate. In effect, Mazda is paying you now to not wait the two or three months you're thinking of waiting. Also, dealers are already taking around $4K off the $30K MSRP. Dealers could go lower, but not much lower. If there's a Mazda in your household (even if someone else owns or leases it), you get another $750 off. I daily drove my na for 4 years before I sold it. In all it was so fucking fun to drive, but the number of things or people I couldn't carry got annoying. And the fact I had to drive it in snow or heavy rain and the top leaked after replacing seals made it difficult to own. Now that I have a daily heater hatch that's boring to drive I start to appreciate having a normal car. But God damn do I miss the nice days with the top dowwn

My 97 Miata was one of the best (and most memorable) cars I’ve ever owned. 200k+ miles on it (I owned it in Miami, Virginia, Texas and Hawaii). It saw countless autocross Sunday’s and track days and was nearly indestructible. Owned it for 12 fantastic years. I’ve now had several Porsche’s (including my current 991.2 GT3 6MT) and I still miss my old Miata. I’ll certainly own one again. Thanks for making this series.

When shopping for a used Miata you will discover that they hold their value. This is because they are indestructible. I’ve owned three used NAs and each gave great reliability. For service try to find an independent shop that knows Miatas. As with all cars, avoid dealer service departments.

I remember when my father came home with a Miata for the first time. It was a '95 in Montego Blue, which is a dark blue-green metallic. It was so different than the 3 box sedans I had grown up in. When I sat in it, it was as if I was in the cockpit of a fighter jet. Shamefully, I remember telling him, "I would be so fast in this if it were an automatic." Of course, now I could never purchase anything that was not a manual. Fast forward 25 years and I've rebuilt and refined every system on the early Miatas. I've removed hundreds of pounds of dead weight, including A/C, power steering, stereo, cruise control, sound deadening material, and even removed electrical wires for now unused circuits. I've done extensive modification of suspension and brakes, rebuilt an engine and added a turbo. I learned to machine metal and built a machine shop to make new parts and modify aftermarket parts. I taught myself composite fabrication. I grew as a person because of the Miata. I'm starting to think about buying a newer car. I've never bought anything that wasn't a Miata. So is the answer an ND? Or will Mazda give the US market what it wants and deliver a 2.5l ND in the future? If the NE Miata is hybrid or electric, it will lose everything Miata about it and I'll never buy it. Maybe the most Miata of Miatas is a home built Exocet? Mazda please do the right thing.

This is a pleasant surprise. Great editing and music. I never gave Miata's a chance, despite being a huge JDM nerd in the early 2000s. I finally drove a lightly modded NC about 5 years ago at Harris Hill out in Austin. It blew me away how fun it was, how perfect the steering felt, how I could carry speed through every corner and just rip it. I was instantly hooked and traded my 328 for one a couple weeks later. While the stock NC is a bit of a boat, no doubt, coilovers and a few exhaust bits make this car a blast to drive every single day. I'm in the Miata for life club, for sure.

I just bought a ND2. I am driving home on the 3rd, same day as the ND doc comes out. I have been smiling for the last 2 weeks. I live in Japan. Found out we have to scrap one of our two cars. Was hoping it would last another year or two. I have been wanting for an mx-5 all my life. Walked into the local Mazda just for kicks to see if they could find us an ND2. They happened to switching over the show room models right then. Not even on sale yet. They reserved one for me. Machine Grey, just like I wanted. I was hoping for a VS. But all they had was... top of the line RS with all the options for 9,000,000 yen off sticker price and 530km on the odo (36 million yen after fees and tax and all that jazz). It still feels like a dream. I am getting a brand new MX-5 ND2 RS for about 70% of the msrp after driving used cars and motorcycles my entire life that never cost more than 5k. I was one of those who made fun of the Miata's looks when I was very young... until I was old enough to become more open-minded and willing to try any car that claims to be fun. The Miata ended up being one of my fondest memories for driving; I ended up owning two NA at two different times in my life because I just couldn't let it go. I love the Miata and it does put a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel. Like all the care in the world goes away when I am driving it. Some people might be judging or making fun of me from outside... but it's their loss and they are missing out for not driving a Miata.
