#MinorityReport #TomCruise
I liked how Danny - despite his antagonism towards John previously - did not let it affect his judgment once he realised there was a set-up (the "orgy of evidence) . He genuinely wanted to get to the truth ...
why precog didnt see dannys murder ?
@@bezbd I can't be 100% certain, but was it to do with the precogs being "disconnected" following Anderton's abduction of Agatha ?
@@bezbd There are two parts to answer this question:
1. Danny's murder was not premeditated, it was done on impulse, which, as stated at the beginning of the movie, has a shorter window of prediction. Burgess did not know about what Dan was about to show him, and up until this point, had no reason to kill him.
2. As stated earlier in the movie, Agatha is the key to the trio. Even though all three have visions, Agatha is the one who puts it all together, thus, without her, the precogs can't see. Agatha had spent at least a full hour at this point away from the precinct, so if she did see his murder, she wasn't around soon enough for them to catch it.
@@bezbd Danny’s murder wasn’t planned, or at least it wasn’t planned until after Agatha’s kidnapping which meant the Precog was down because the twins won’t work without Agatha, & red balls always show up late
@@bezbd John took Agatha they are a “hive mind”
I like how the movie tried to make you think Collin was the bad guy and Lamar was supposed to be his buddy, little switch
Collin? You mean Danny?
But nothing Witwer does is evil,he is just cocky, arrogant and too ambitious. Never saw him as the villain, although he is the logical antagonist to our hero.
@@christofferjenzen78he was kind of set up to be the killer is Sean for a few minutes until he starts talking about Anne livley
@@christofferjenzen78 He's basically the "Hero Antagonist" trope. He's the antagonist from our perspective, but he's merely trying to uphold the law and bring the person he believes to be guilty to justice. This scene demonstrates how the moment evidence arises that John might be innocent, he instead tries to protect him, by still following the law.
0:19 This shot is a great example of why this film is genius. Within the context of the story, this shot tells you (before it's revealed) that Lamar in the back is illuminated in light because he knows everything, whilst Danny in front who's literally in the dark, doesn't know. I love it. I wish I saw this film sooner, always been a massive Spielberg fan since I was little so it was so nice to see another classic Spielberg film, when I thought I'd already seen them all.
I love how the music doesn’t play until Lamar shoots Danny and the scene is silent. Really ramps up the tension between the two of them
20 years ago, great movie
This gave me LA Confidential vibes when Vincennes is murdered by Dudley. Rolo Tomasi.
Tne 2 scenes are very similar. Some people call Mirror Scene this kind of coincidence.
The way he smiled before death also look the same
Yeah agreed, good spot
This was one of my favorite video growing up as a kid. I remember HBO used to play the hell out of this.
Minority Report and Mission Impossible are what made me a Tom Cruise fan.
The Last Samurai and Minority Report are super underrated in every respect.
How old are you now? I did the same
you should watch A Few Good Men, that's my fav tom cruise movie of all time.
Minority Report made me a huge Colin Farrell fan. Colin's acting is incredible in this movie!
Masterpiece...RIP Max von Sydow
Very complex and thought provoking scene. One of my favourite farrell films.
He's brilliant in this film - nails the role.
I agree with you both. I also love the recruit. Swat is a fun movie too
Yeah. Colin Farrell is an incredible actor. And this is also one of my favourite Colin Farrell movie. (My favorite is "In Bruges".)
This caught me so off guard. The guy being portrayed as the bad guy, and the untrustworthy one, ultimately saw the problematic possibilities, which we were led to brush off, despite his ideas being very logical. And then it’s after he’s gone that that truth is brought to light
Best Plot Twist ever
Come on. It was copied from "L.A. Confidential" (1997)
When I first saw this movie and heard the gunshot, I jumped out of my seat. I was not expecting this to happen.
Lamar: " I won't say a word!"😂😂
One of the best Steven Spielberg movies. Amazing scene, amazing movie. I'm proud to say that I have watched at the cinema. Masterpiece absolutely.
Anytime me and my friend would talk and he starts getting deep into a topic I would go *Shush shush Shush* like Lamar and we would both burst out laughing..it became a meme for us 🤣😆
In other words... This scene is fucking fantastic 👌💯
Lmao that’s awesome
Spielberg has such a way with death in his movies. Jurassic Park is an all time classic but there are so many moments in his other movies that are just as haunting. This is a big one.
Schindlers List is the most haunting
0:17 Sometimes i randomly think about this shot, Spielberg is a god.
I remember seeing this movie as a kid and everyone gasped in the theater.
That expanding blood stain is awesome
"I won't say a word"
"I know." BAM! ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
This is exactly like that scene from LA confidential
Except that Dudley didn't blow out in Jack's mouth
Well, at least Tom Cruise (now in his 60s) had a co-star actually older than him: veteran great Max Von Sydow, who sadly died in 2020. RIP, Max.
I worked at a movie theater when this came out and that Shot! ALWAYS made the audience jump.
How many years are we away from this becoming the way of life?
All these people miss the point. You don't question authority when authority is the head criminal.
Yes. Danny was an idiot when he went to the head of the program instead of investigating what the murdered woman had to do with the program
"He's no killer Lamar" ...I know ...lovely 😊
Colin Farrell was so incredibly hot in this movie! 🔥 And I loved his hairstyle in this movie. 🥰❤
This is almost a carbon copy of when James Cromwell shoots Kevin Spacey in LA Confidential
Mirror scene, too similar.
Love how he reacts to his demise i hope i will have the same grace one day
His reaction was like "I knew it could be you but damn, it really was you"
Danny Witwer: No! Not the nipple! Why did you shot my nipple!
Happy Birthday Colin!!❤ Enjoy King!!❤😂❤😂
What are your thoughts on Danny Witwer? Do you consider him to be a hero or villain? Despite the fact that he's not an evil character, the fact that he was very ambitious and very pushy, then some people would consider him to be unlikable.
Danny Witwer was definitely the hero. If Lamar hadn't shot Danny, he would have discovered who really murdered Anne Lively.
He's a pr*ck to the protagonist at first but he's a good guy
He can be very smug but in the end he cares about justice
The gunshot was super loud when I saw it in the theater
I love Max von Sydow.
when the killer was having a conversation with the case they were involve and all of a sudden they take you out next for solving the riddle
@Zani Taniri 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A huge plot hole which could have been resolved had Lamar Burgess just been smarter when he chose to kill Anne Lively. The entire precog program was only applicable within Washington DC. So to avoid the entire risk of being detected, Lamar Burgess could have just drawn Anne Lively to somewhere outside of Washington DC and kill her without being detected.
It was still shown by Agatha therefore there was footage from her precognition it was done.
I read somewhere that Colin Farrell had gone out the night before shooting this scene for his birthday and was very hungover and stoned when showing up to set the next day. It apparently took him 56 takes to say the line "Im sure youve all grasped the fundamental paradoxical precrime methodology." He went on to say he wants that line engraved on his tombstone 😅
Great movie. Solid scene. But this can't help but suffer in comparison to the same scene in L.A. Confidential, which, as a scene, is just much stronger.
I wouldn't say this is a mirror scene to LA confidential. Very similar yes, but that scene comes with so much dramatic weight, shit resonates. Jack desperately seeking redemption, neither Dudley or Jack are at the center of the scenes, it's all about Rollo Tomassi.
Dudleys shot is completely out of the blue, shocking both us and Jack. In the grand scheme of things Witwers death meant little,in the end dying was his point where as Jacks death completed his arc and his last words is a callback that brings down the bad guy.
Both guys dies smiling tho. Haven't read this one but Dudley didn't shoot Jack in the books so maybe it was just an awesome scee to emulate.
An interesting detail is that the films have no other real suspects and the actors playing them should've tipped us off, their whole purpose was evil...but they hid in plain sight and on paper it sounded to obvious but mostly, Hanson and Spielberg directed the narrative with such focus and misled us,we focused on everyother thing.
Hanson did it alot more effective but still...the only logical villain was a twist. Now that takes skill.
Jobert returns!
Why was he shot on the right side instead of the left? Surely Lamar knew where the heart is located. Was that so Danny didn't die right away, had some realization of what he didn't understand, and then get shot a second time?
I think he shot Danny on the right side of his chest, so Danny would know it was Lamar all along, before Lamar shot him again. Either that or he has terrible aim.
Are we talking about Danny's right or Lamars' right?
I get the echo part being erased by the technician, but why didn't Ann Lively's murder by Lamar create a wooden ball with his name on it?
Precogs are blind due to Agatha being disconnected.
@@peterp2153 I'm talking about Ann Lively's murder, when Agatha wasn't disconnected.
Maybe at that time the precogs technology yet to be advanced enough to tell the perpetrator and only the victim
The brown ball wood only have been created after Lamar saw the original murder taking place so he knew how to perform the murder himself. My guess is that once Lamar’s murder was shown, the tech erased what they thought was the echo before the brown ball was created.
Ann Lively's murder by Lamar WAS the echo. It was shown earlier in the film if you erase the echo early enough, the entire process tops and no ball is generated. However, the issue is it still relies on a tech not noticing the wind direction as changed (which obviously Danny did notice).
THE OPENING ARREST SCENE OF THIS MOVIE takes place on the upper Georgetown block i lived in some years before. The townhouse i occupied is a couple doors down from the "crime scene." There is no children's playground across the street.
I used to jog all over Georgetown, including the in the famous stairs, where there's a fire station next to them.
Who is the king 🤴 in this scene? Quick now
...can you discern this? It's simple one ...Max ❤❤❤
One thing I'm not clear on: when Danny says "of course it would have to be someone fairly high up," is he accusing Lamar? Or is he really just saying that in a more generic sense? Because if it's supposed to be a "gotcha" moment, makes you wonder why Danny didn't come with a team of other officers for protection and/or arrest.
I think Danny was so caught up in the investigation/revelation, and Lamar seemed so righteous, that he only realized it as he was describing it out loud and saw Lamar's reaction.
one of my favorite movies other than top gun maverick. epic and it not because of tom cruise.
So the victim was attacked and the cops just left the victim to fend for herself.
Le monde à changé depuis l'an 2000. Pour ceux qui veulent bien le croire !!!
Danny was an idiot when he went to the head of the program instead of investigating what the murdered woman had to do with the program
😢😢
Man goes to his boss with information he figured out and gets killed because it was his boss that was hiding something in the data system.
Definitely inspired by "L.A. Confidential" (1997)!!!
I can't believe he was able to go to Coffeezilla to help him
i'm so glad someone else noticed
We get the info late in the game but thats only cause we are supposed to accept Witwer as a red herring. Cocky, arrogant and ambitious to a fault sure, but not once are we ever remotely led to believe he is an evil man or the baddie here. In his scene prior to this one,we found out he used to be a homocide cop.
Turns out when he focuses on the job, dude is exceptional. Being very nrw to precogs and how the system works, his deduction is on point despite how farfetched it is. So he is very smart...and forementioned arrogance is supposed to explain his behaviour here but this is just dumb, reckless, suicidal. Spelling out how you digured this out to the director who went to great lengths to not get caught and instead of downplaying it,witwer in a very unsubtle way comes out, unarmed and accises the omd man of murder.
Does it jive with what what have been shown so far? No,rhis is the reveal and also big kill in the film and while the scene is great for a good while,it ends up"Lamar has to kill witwer, just make it happe ,i dont care how..." Imo,if Witwer wasnt needed in the movie as soon as we knew he wasnt the baddie, they couldve offed him after about an hour. His use in the narearive is spent not when he is revealed to be a red herring but when he solves the murder and is shown to be a good man.
.
Can someone pls explain why the precog didn't see this murder 😅
they weren't active
John Anderton had kidnapped Agatha (one of the precogs and the most powerful too) at the time Lamar Burgess shot Danny Witwer, so the precogs couldn't see a thing, as they need all three precogs to predict murders.
Canceled.
Rewatching this I’m surprised how it spoils the ending
Yeah but this is pretty late in the movie. John gets caught pretty much right after this.
Instead of focusing on the twist, Spielberg makes it more about how John can get out of his predicament, given he gets arrested and von Sydow basically committed the perfect crime as well as set Cruise up.
That derisive "heh" that Farrell's Danny does at 2:02 really irks cause thats what my dad did when I would start to respond to him in his asshole hyper nerd manics when I was a kid
What about the wooden balls with victim and perpetrator names dropping? Did he steal them from inside the office?
No,The precogs were missing the key who puts it all together, Agatha. And supposedly, totally impulsive kills are harder to notice or it tales longer time,I think.
@@christofferjenzen78 I think Chad was referring to Lamar’s first murder. The technician might think it’s an echo, but there should still be a ball with Lamar’s name on it.
If it’s flagged as an echo then no wooden balls are created
@@robinh5339 We saw earlier in the film what happens. When an echo is deleted early enough, the entire process ends and no wooden ball is created.
This is playing out as we speak…🤷♂️
Spoilers much? What’s wrong with you peoples?
hilarious comment, honestly.
@@resmarted Really?
yes. bitching about a spoiler being in a clip of a movie that you clicked on is very funny. If you didn't want to see spoilers maybe don't watch clips of the movie you apparently arent ready to watch? @@VariTimo

That reminds me of my ex
The Precogs we're not same thing
He said: The Precogs can't see a thing
Guns saying more lives than not having guns is a bad take. If there are more homicides by gun violence in the USA than any Western country invalidates that argument. Gun violence in states with more strict gun control is easy because going to a different state is not a difficult task. I believe in gun rights but these arguments are garbage and he should be more responsible with the data. If we know that there are already gun laws in place to prevent these shooters, it clearly isn't working, so that is also a bad take.
When did that happen in the movie?
@@FlyingSaucerEyez i don't know anymore, sounds more like I commented in the wrong place.
Good. Lol. He’s annoying.
I was devastated when he shot colin he was my favourite character filled with mystery
