Orlando (1992) Theatrical Trailer

- Director: Sally Potter
ORLANDO is a bold, unsentimental re-working of Virgina Woolfs classic novel in which an innocent aristocrat journeys through 400 years of English history - first as a man, then as a woman. ORLANDO is a story of the quest for love, and it is also an ironic dance through English history. Addressing contemporary concerns about gender and identity, the film is remarkably true to the spirit of Virgina Woolf, but it also skilfully adapts the original story to give it a striking, cinematic form. The screenplay is a standard text taught in film schools as a radical and successful adaptation of a classic work. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
everytime Tilda Swinton looks at the camera I feel like she's looking into my soul and judging it
the judging part of your sentence! lol, I agree.
Fun fact: the same dude who shot this film, Alexey Rodionov, a Russian Cinematographer, shot a film 7 years before, that has a similar affect of characters looking directly into the camera
That film was the 1985, Soviet Anti-War Film, Come and See
A hard watch but one of the best war films ever made and part of it is to do with the cinematography, it’s also the highest rated movie on Letterboxd
Tilda Swinton is an androgynous beauty. Her eyes and smile captivate me.
is she/he male or female :D
@@ertugrulkaya4328 She said she's "probably a woman", but she recognizes that gender is fluid. She might be gender-fluid or just a woman, we'll never know, as she said gender identity is personal to her
I’m a heterosexual male but Swinton’s androgyny makes me question my sexuality.😅
I saw this movie as a child and it stuck with me to this day. I did not understand much back then but looking forward to watching it again after 2 decades
How different was that experience after so much time?! I love things like this! I’ve been revisiting old childhood media too as of late. It’s wonderful!
Watching this movie is like one of those perfect blissful dreams you dont want to wake up from
when this movie came out I saw it 11 times in the theater and on the day of January 17th 1994 I was to see it the 12th time but then Los Angeles had a massive earthquake and the theater ceiling collapsed the morning before the show
Боже, и смешно, и грустно 😂😟
Tilda Swinton should've gotten an Oscar Nomination for this film.
I watched this last night, and oh my gosh it was amazing.
My absolute Favourite movie. An Absolute Masterpiece
passé: looking at the camera Office style
risqué: looking at the camera Orlando style
So inspiring :)
I am in love of the peefection from him and her.
I just saw the play, and now must see this movie.
One of my favorite movies.
It's that look. The same as from a squirrel when you catch it at your bird feeder.
What a brilliant little gem of a comment
I can confirm that this is 100% accurate.
Quentin Crisp was very good in this film. He stole every scene he was in.
Push Back A real sincerity whether it's acting or being interviewed , in Orlando you can feel the regrets ,,,,, like most of us have if we could've done things over again ,,,,,,,,, ahhh , hindsight is 20/20 .
I must have seen it 300 times
Adore this dazzling film. ❤️
Anyone here because of the MET gala theme announcement?
. Yeah, the ones who never knew that much about filmaking as a true art form. Nothing against the MET Gala, but people who are into certain kind of celebrity culture are just shallow.
Pablo Javier Alfaro you are just making an assumption that just because of one comment I know nothing about filmmaking and that because I have an interest in the met gala it’s because of celebrity culture which is actually not the reason I have an interest in it at all. Don’t judge someone so quickly it just makes you look stupid.
@@abbied897 . If I look stupid, then don't be so defensive. And yes, I still think that someone who comes to see this Movie Trailer because of The Met Gala is a complete shallow person.
Pablo Javier Alfaro well now who’s being defensive? I don’t appreciate someone calling me shallow for no legitimate reason and jumping to conclusions about me or anyone else over one comment. Honestly I don’t really get why you are starting an argument over it at all. Such pathetic behaviour.
@@abbied897 . If you don't consider yourself a shallow person, don't waste your time trying to show me you're not. The world's full of people who don't think like you. I don't think like you. Period. If you don't get that, you're officially an inmadure little child.
Love this movie with Tilda Swinton and Billy Zane in it!
I See , Your Are Here As A Casualty Of Love!
they're not like us fellows
one of my favourite films
brilliant film
Billy zane in this and then when he plays cal in titanic urgh my heart ❤
Great film.
Magnific 🎉
O filme inglês Orlando: A Mulher Imortal,de Sally Potter, é excelente!
It's quite weird movie. I should read the book to understand it at all.
Anyway Tilda Swinton performed a perfect Orlando
I feel the same. I think the novel tries to elaborate on gender, social bias, status, class etc.
Didn't watch the movie yet, but the books is very confusing, so I don't know how much clarity it can bring.
I want to reread the book and then watch the film. The lenguage is veeeery flowery and surrealistic (and maby my translation wasn't the best), also there isn't very clare divisions between the diferent parts of the book (and I think is the point) but makes everithing more weird
Between this and Surrogate for film night
does anyone know where can i see it in spanish? i can't find ittt
What piece of music is this that plays throughout the trailer. Is it specifically composed for the film?
+lafillenoir Jimmy Somerville "Coming". I believe that it was an original piece written for the soundtrack.
+Ernst T I'd forgotten about this - thank you, must buy the soundtrack!
The predominant piece in the trailer is "The Maze", composed for the film by David Motion and Sally Potter
Wherw can I find this film?
Who's afraid of the big bad wolf?
And then there are historical figures.
@Adler36
He means the character of the Aunt, Angela Lansbury.
Is it not ironic, in a cosmic way, that a Scorpio should play the part of one who goes through transformation?
I'm here trying to understand the character in League of Extraordinary Gentleman hahaha
maybe... possibly... my favourite film.
She’s so young here.
Have anyone known the poetry Lady Orlando recited before Queen Majesty Elisabeth !?
The Faerie Queene, Edmund Spenser - book 2, canto 12, stanzas 74 & 75
Just to elaborate a bit, the whole section of canto 12 that the recital comes from is also known as "The Bower of Bliss". It contrasts age with youth, decay with innocence, eroticism with temperance, artificial beauty with natural beauty - no doubt why Elizabeth in her age finds it inappropriate coming from Orlando who is young and uncorrupted.
Gorgeous!! Thank you so much indeed!
Thumbs up if you came here via the BFI’s interview with Tilda Swinton, hosted by Mark Kermode.
Comment is you saw the new adaption of the play
i have a question is any body going to upload this beautiful movie????

Orlando is Virginia Wolfe ascension into Feminism
Equally of the Sexes
Clothing is what you're using. That's the appropriate venue because whether you're using the shrill Hill you're still using New York and I think you know. The fashion industry huh? Cerulean.

As if you think you are different
I have a love/hate thing with this movie. It is such a magnificent staging; historically fascinating, brilliantly acted, gorgeously filmed...and so obviously intelligent. But the theme remains abhorrent to me. I love the androgyny, but grow so very tired of the 'western civilization evil, being male evil' drum beat.
Yes, I used to feel like that too until I realised that that's not the theme - at least, not for Virginia Woolf or Sally Potter.
how sad for you
tiny little violin on standby
Have you considered it being less about "being male evil" , but more about "males at that time being evil" . I mean, should you just paint an incomplete picture to not offend the feelings of a possible future audience?
А как мужская цивилизация соотносится с западной цивилизацией?)
