  • What is the best transmitter for you if you are wanting to get into racing?
You can get by with a simple radio transmitter from a RTR but if you want better performance then you will have to a few more set up options you will need.
We take a look at some basic option that will help you get the car around the track. There are so many options so here are 3 that you could consider.
    Budget option
    Absima CR3p £70
    Durable option
    Spektrum DX5 Rugged £280

I had a Radiolink set a while ago, subsequently sold it as it ate batteries and got very glitchy when the voltage started dropping off. I moved on to a Flysky Noble NB4, and boy is it better. The screen is nice, easy to use, and the set is very responsive. OK, maybe not as responsive as some very high end sets, but it's a lot cheaper. It also came with 2 receivers, and the battery you plug in to the bottom of the receiver is basically a power bank that just charges the internal battery, and you can use it as an actual power bank. The receivers are reasonably priced too, something like £35 for the small one, which is pretty good. I'll definitely stick with Flysky👍👍

A lot of radios have a steering speed setting as well, it can be quite useful to slow this down a little especially for onroad cars

My advice to anyone who is getting serious into RC racing (not beginners who just started or used for bashing purposes), radios and servos are one of those "you get what you pay for" items.
Spec sheets of the radios and servos don't tell the whole story and it can be a very subjective topic but i can tell you the difference of "feeling connected to the car" and the fine/precise input/control you get with high end radios and servos can be night and day even to non pro RC drivers.
Yes budget or mid-tier radios these day can give you the same adjustments and functions as high-end radios but the "feeling connected to the car" difference is so big that you may mistakenly think there's something wrong with your car setup but instead it can come from the radio or servo you use.
If you have a chance to try out someone's car with high end radio and servo at your local club, give it a try.
It is unfortunate that the price tag of high end radios and servos are getting insane these days but seriously if you can afford it and are serious in racing, it would be a "spend once and forget it for the next 10 years" item.
    Just my two cents.

I agree the old school manufactures (KO,Sanwa,Airtronics, Futaba etc) still have the best quality feel, best signal quality and longevity to the handsets.

Love the look of the radiolink rc8x seems to be a bit hard to get hold of

Steering expo, Dual rate/ATL and throttle curve are the most important features personally (Endpoint adjustment should be standard on any radio for me). However I havent had good experiences with radio link - had multiple receivers just fail on me, constantly lagged and glitched out when racing. Switched to Futaba and no glitching and zero latency. You really do get what you pay for. Same goes to Servos

Sanwa MT-R is the best mid priced radio for racing

I didn’t like That touch sensitive scroll on the Spectrum Rugged either and went with the cheaper DX5C with the scroll button It’s my crawler and brasher radio I figured if I dropped it off a cliff or in a creek it’s a $120usd radio and not my $400usd Sanwa MT44 race radio. Not to mention the receivers are cheap so not going to go broke outfitting the RC fleet. If I had to choose a secondary radio again I actually like the FlySky stuff but I’m pretty adamant about sticky to Sanwa or Futaba for the race radio you do get what you pay for in quality with them

I'm sorry to tell you, in my opinion the RC8X is way to slow for racing. I compared it to my T10px, of course the best radio in the moment, but my car wasn't the same. I got a V2.0 Receiver for the RC8X to get the best, but my Servo (Futaba CT700) was't as fast as with the Futaba T10px!
The Radiolink RC8X is nice for scaler, crawler and bashing, but for racing I would always take a Futaba!

Placebo effect, I use a 5.5ms latency spektrum, and you literally can't tell the difference from a 5.5ms to a 12ms radio. Research has proven the human perceives anything under 20ms as immediate response. Regardless, enjoy your futaba but all you noticed was what your imagination made up.

@@turboboostHoonicow yes I have a 5.5ms spektrum, now I use radiolink rc8x. On same cars, I can tell no difference in latency outside of ergonomic feel of the radio.

Yes, radiolink rc8x protocol fhss version 1 and version 2, it is slower and sluggish than other radio with similar price range, sanwa mt44 and higher model are way faster.

Why not just use double sided sticky tape for the battery? Works ok for me and didn’t use much.
