- At WEC 53 Benson Henderson and Anthony "Showtime" Pettis fought for the WEC Lightweight title. It was a close fight when Pettis decided to use a kick that he threw in practice during the final minutes of the bout. The kick would land on Henderson and become one of the more famous moments in MMA history. Pettis said the move was labeled the "Showtime Kick" when he used it during training sessions. Henderson would lose his title that night, but the outcome and the highlight move didn't break his confidence as a fighter. Benson accepted the moment and kept his promise of one day becoming UFC champion. #ufc #anthonypettis #shorts #bensonhenderson

Benson Henderson is tied with Frankie Edgar, BJ Penn, and Khabib Nurmagomedov for most UFC Lightweight title defenses (each fighter listed here has 3 defenses).
Competitive division
Benson would fight with a toothpick in his mouth. I don't care what anyone says that puts him a little bit higher than those guys
@@MastemaJackkhabib dominated everyone and every round he’s the best lw
@@carmelo5320 2 title defenses what 3 ranked opponents before that? Give me a break man
Jeez, someone needs to become champ and defend that belt at least 5 times to become goat again. That knockout though has got to be top 10, all time.
One of the greatest lightweights ever unless you’re a casual
2 of the best*
Like kebab lovergirls
Both him and Benson are like top 10 all time
Would fight with a toothpick in his mouth yeah goat worthy right there
@@Louis97LS27Khabib's existence makes you so butthurt you have to cry about him in an unrelated video😂 get a life.
All the OG’s know that Benson is a baaaad mfker.
Pettis not only took his WEC title that night, he hunted Benson down to the UFC and took his title. He was Alex Pereira before Alex Pereira 🤣
Benson definitely the better fighter though. He was a great champ Anthony was just his kryptonite
@@wquebso the exact same scenario as Izzy and pereira then?😂😂
@@Cagefighter209yes sir
@@wquebI think legacy wise they’re very comparable. But benson got more title defense
@@Cagefighter209 pereira is a better kickboxer than Izzy but mma is debatable
Even tho he ended up losing to Pettis again (losing his UFC title to him) he definitely didn't let that moment define him and was still tearing it up in Bellator fighting for titles far beyond his prime years
a flying heel hook is absolutely insane
Wasn't a flying heel hook. It was a scissor takedown that was followed up with a heel hook
whenever i think of anthony i think of the showtime kick but i never really think of how it happened to benson it’s crazy benson is a legend in the sport people don’t even know who he is let alone remember his fights thats wild to me
Benson is such a legend that this iconic kick is hardly ever considered a blemish on his career. No one thinks of benson Henderson and thinks of this kick first.
Actually Alot of casuals do, I made a lightweight goat tier list n put Henderson at A and bj Penn and Khabib at S and lot of people said( Henderson ? Dint he get embarrassed by Pettis wall kick?)
@@Ptheplug39Honestly a lot of “casuals” don’t know about the showtime kick. I think that’s something you discover when you start getting into mma
@@certifiedjefe5151 its a pretty popular moment on tik tok actually
Actually, I think of benson Henderson sitting there doing the splits slapping Nate Diaz playfully while Nate tries to submit him.
@@Ptheplug39getting knocked out by RDA was pretty bad. Henderson is the better fighter.
Benson one of the greatest lightweights ever but Showtime just had his number
Like a pimp just casually fought with a toothpick In his mouth
Benson is a savage
Bensons a legend.
Henderson is rather gracious about that fight, showing very good character.
Great to see all the love Bendo is getting in the comments ❤ he really is one of the best and comes across like a gent
I love Bendo.
His legacy for sure is not being head kicked by pettis. He’s a legend
Benson is a fucking legend
Benson is one of the guys i do think could beat islam makhachev his heavy wrestling approach would force a stand up fight between the two
Here to say I agree before the Daggy dickriders come to say something about Benson losing to Usman even though he’s 40 now
Prime benson beats khabib and islam
@@blahblah-if3nf islam is a 50-50 extremely technical guy, now khabib i think he beats flat out, both high level wrestlers and benson definitely the better striker
H@@richgang2000futuregamer he lost to their little cousin usman by a question mark kick
@@aek.53 Losing to a roidhead doesn't count
He ran off the wall like a ninja!!!!😮😂
Henderson is a goat
Bendo was the man in his prime, same with Pettis
The showtime kick will forever be the best kick in MMA
STAGED
Respect tho
Pretty sure pettis was on a mtv show when it happened. Remember watching it!
They just fought again in karate combat
Bendo recovered though. Fight went to decision if I remember correctly. His durability was always incredible.
I wonder if the toothpick was it his mouth when he got kicked against showtime
He didn't go to sleep though. It's a good fight and he just got caught. They were both good Champs
A lot of people say it’s staged but in all honesty it really does look like pettis is going for super man punch or even a flying knee attempt after the little jog. The run onto the cage was compleeeeeetly unexpected… if the crowd was that surprised it happened imagine being the guy on the receiving end…. Like think about it your in a cage where generally it’s traditional kickboxing or wrestling and some mf just started doing some ninja shit like bruh I’d be caught off guard with that one too
I know him as guy who tapped and got retired by Usman
This is the thing it may have been a highlight reel moment but a lot of people don't realize this. All of the fights he mentioned ended in finishes... He survived this to go on to lose a decision. I'm sorry but y'all ain't never surviving a showtime kick from anyone and making it to the end of that fight like bruh Benson is literally inhuman for that.
...and the armbar in UFC.
Benson is a legend, too bad his many split decisions overshadowed his carrer a little bit
I still think he lost the second edgar fight, and he probably lost the gilbert fight as well
I wonder if this is the Mandela effect because I remember it being the other way around and Pettis receiving the showtime kick
Amazing bounce back even after the kick
if one of the most active legacy fighters in donal cerrone KNOWS he shouldve lost to benson, if one of the most game guys in either frankie or chandler has been beaten by benson, if one of the fkn diaz brothers has been manhandled by benson,
you know hes one of the best to ever do it and saying otherwise is nothing short of delusional.
Hated this guy when he beat down Frankie Edgar 😂
Is he pretending like that was a huge upset? 🤦♂️
No we remember you getting kicked and escaping bad situations
you can tell it bothered him, he nemorized many of crazy finishes to justify his lmfao
This Is what I remember Benson for.
Did he really throw his name in there with George and Silva?
I mean tbh he was a UFC champion no matter how he won or lost.
he was trying to say that everyone, even the greats are at the receiving end of a highlight reel. he wasn't comparing himself to those guys
yeah it was staged tho lol he put his foot up against the cage and they both were still then started moving......looked like an amateur stage combat film lmao
Flashy, but the most overrated kick in the history of MMA, didn’t even finish or knock him out with it.
He landed the kick with half his foot which is why the kick landed. Had he used Instep, Shin. It would have missed.
