  • At WEC 53 Benson Henderson and Anthony "Showtime" Pettis fought for the WEC Lightweight title. It was a close fight when Pettis decided to use a kick that he threw in practice during the final minutes of the bout. The kick would land on Henderson and become one of the more famous moments in MMA history. Pettis said the move was labeled the "Showtime Kick" when he used it during training sessions. Henderson would lose his title that night, but the outcome and the highlight move didn't break his confidence as a fighter. Benson accepted the moment and kept his promise of one day becoming UFC champion. #ufc #anthonypettis #shorts #bensonhenderson

Benson Henderson is tied with Frankie Edgar, BJ Penn, and Khabib Nurmagomedov for most UFC Lightweight title defenses (each fighter listed here has 3 defenses).

A lot of people say it’s staged but in all honesty it really does look like pettis is going for super man punch or even a flying knee attempt after the little jog. The run onto the cage was compleeeeeetly unexpected… if the crowd was that surprised it happened imagine being the guy on the receiving end…. Like think about it your in a cage where generally it’s traditional kickboxing or wrestling and some mf just started doing some ninja shit like bruh I’d be caught off guard with that one too

He survived this to go on to lose a decision.
