Can confirm because I work at Whataburger and I'm often on grill station, you nailed it!
Next you should try to make the patty melt - two patties with monterey jack cheese, with grilled onions on Texas Toast with creamy pepper sauce.

I worked at Whataburger but it was back in the early 80's. You got this just about perfect! Back when i worked there, the meat patties were 4ozs, but I never knew the fat content or what cut of beef they used. They were never frozen. The Seasoning was just regular salt and pepper at a ratio of 5 parts salt to 1 part pepper. On a side note, Whataburger used popcorn salt to salt the fries and onion rings. Popcorn salt is a very fine ground and it helps to absorb the grease faster and give the fry a drier look. The veggies were all hand cut in the restaurant except the pickles, which came in 5 gallon plastic buckets. We did use a tomato slicer and an onion slicer (they were usually frustratingly dull). But the lettuce was iceberg and was washed, sanitized and chopped by hand. We didn't have a fancy bun butterer roller thing, but other locations did. We just toasted the buns on one part of the grill dry.
I still eat Whataburger to this day, but it's not my favorite. The quality is not what it used to be.
    Great videos!!

Whataburger uses a proprietary blend. Brisket, short rib and sirloin I believe. Or brisket, Chuck, short rib. You can buy it in 1 pound packages for 7 bucks in some Chicago area stores. It also comes in patty form. 1/3 pound each.

I have tried In & Out and it's not bad. Pretty tasty but, Whataburger just wipes the floor with them. Just had myself a double patty combo last night - SO GOOD. You made a pretty good looking replica of their double patty burger but, I think there's more to it than just garlic salt & pepper as their seasoning. There's something else there that I can't quite put my finger on that gives it that special, seasoned beef flavor. Also, a Whataburger burger is great on it's own *_BUT,_* if you really want to knock it out of the park? You *_GOTTA_* add the pickled jalapeño peppers to it when you order it. It really does make a huge difference (and the best soda to eat a Whataburger combo with? Orange Fanta... Trust me...). Great video here...

I know its terrible but if you squeeze about half the juice out of the burger after it comes off the flat top...ITS AWESOME! The juice comes out anyway on the first few bites, so you eliminate that. The bun won't get soggy when you set it back down and the juice won't make the bun soggy when it comes out.

Whataburger is FAR BETTER than in -N out. We have both here. It's not even close as to which one tastes better.

Telling the truth. In & Out ain't nothing special. I was very unimpressed when they came to Houston.

Whataburger couldn't make it in Nashville when it opened multiple franchises here in the 1970s, but this is a tough town to compete, as we have so many competitors--we were the first city with both Krystal and White Castle. Shake Shack is also failing here, and Five Guys is not doing well either, because there are too many superior options. A local company called Hugh Baby's is number one in this market. A lot of SoCal transplants go as far as to say Hugh Baby's is better than In and Out.
