►About the Game -
A mysterious signal has been recorded coming from the red planet.
The message confounded Orochi scientists. Their analysts broke it down and determined it was of intelligent origin. Orochi management immediately concluded that the discovery was too sensitive for public knowledge and moved to keep it hidden. In secret, the corporation began construction of Trailblazer Alpha, a state-of-the-art Mars research outpost designed to identify the true nature of the message.
You are Shane Newehart, an engineer stationed at Trailblazer Alpha and your security clearance means you are completely unaware of the existence of the mysterious signal. Your job is simply to keep the lights on until the transport ship Cyrano arrives bringing with it a new team to take over your duties.
Soon you discover strange and unusual setbacks. Crucial systems are malfunctioning, the greenhouse is filled with a strange mist and the rest of your team has yet to return from their EVA mission.
Things are starting to fall apart.
You begin seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Visions, hallucinations - or is that even what it is? Is this real… or are you slowly descending into madness?
Experience true cosmic horror
With your only hope of rescue hundreds of thousands of miles away, you will be forced to explore the real-world fears of isolation and paranoia, enhanced with supernatural elements and cosmic horror. Terrifying visions and monstrous apparitions will make you question what is real and what is not as the very fabric of reality threatens to tear at the seams.
Explore the darker side of Mars
Navigate a functioning Mars base in a game that uses non-fiction elements to immerse players in a believable setting. Overcome obstacles using computers, electrical systems, rovers, solar panels and more, then go beyond the outpost and explore the darker side of Mars.
Moons of Madness draws upon the rich lore and mythology of Funcom’s Secret World Legends. Both games exist in the same thematic universe, but playing one is not a prerequisite to enjoy the other.

Another fun fact is that both moons on Mars are named after the Greek demigods of fear and terror. Really adds to the game as a whole.
hmmm interesting
Actually they aren't demigods they are the twins of Ares and Aphrodite
I find it funny that he attached the flashlight to his chest. because when you're looking around and moving your mouse in random directions, it also means he's also constantly moving his torso around instead of just his head/hand, he's bending his torso backwards if you're staring up, and he's twisting his torso if you look behind while getting chased(assuming there's a "look behind while getting chased" function like outlast since I'm still around 5 mins in). would've been pretty goofy to look at in 3rd person perspective.
Beep Maybe we can pretend it’s attached to his chin!
At least he did not attached it down there ......
Funny thing is this pretty goes with every First-Person Horror game that where the character is using something like a Pocket Flashlight. Lost In Vivo, Cryostasis, Resident Evil 7, etc.
I love a game which makes real-time sense! This level of detail isn't pointless when you can go down *and* up through a hatch you open, and when the protagonist actually keeps and reuses objects he/she has found. The pacing in this game is building anxiety in the way only everyday events gone crazy can. Great graphics, ambient sounds and musical score, sensible mechanics--what's not to like? Please play on. 👍
You strike a pleasing balance between confidence/competence and wide-eyed wonder, without being too jaded to allow yourself to enjoy the game and be genuinely scared by it.
Just found this channel. A commentary that doesn't try to out do the actual game narrative. Great. And no over the top hysteria (gets very grating) which the vast majority of gaming channels out there are fond of indulging in. Cheers.
Between 'Orochi' (Japanese) and Manticore (Western), it's hard to imagine two companies which could scream any louder "we're evil!!" :)
I know, right? They should have gone for something more friendly like Umbrella or Hyperion.
Well the mythology behind this game has been going since 2007, so it's not like Orochi a new thing. It is based on Yamata No Orochi for having eight companies under its umbrella. And the name is at least it's not as bad as WCKD. :p
Jordy
At least Orochi does sound like a surname of a person that is where the company's name is from. WCKD just sound like "Hey,we're Evil!" (And out of all acronyms that can be used, they choose to make it sound similar to wicked).
Orochi's banking - Faust.
to be fair there were the ships terror and erebus...
Never a good idea to be in a base on Mars with a Mad Scientist!
Doom taught me better
@@aidengeneralaide How are the kids? Dead. Good Talk!
I loved Phantaruk, Soma, Alien Isolation, and Prey, I watched multiple different playthroughs of them, and I love your style, so I'm fifteen minutes in and already DEEPLY immersed in the game! Thanks, Cjugames!
This game is definitely set in the same universe as the Secret World MMORPG, Orochi, Manticore, and Anansi Technologies are all companies in that game. Willing to bet one of them found Cthulhu on Mars and wanted to monetize him somehow.
I completely agree. This is extraordinary. Just when my hopes were waning regarding interesting games. I haven't been this immersed in a game since the RE and SH series. Absolutely continue and as always, thank you.
I was just thinking how much it looked like Alien Isolation and Soma, too.
And Prey!
chavamara I’ve never played Prey but I have seen playthroughs of it. Always liked the concept of mimetic enemies.
I'm seeing a lot of Prey in this too. I would love to see a part two. The graphics are amazing.
I must see more. This game had me on the edge of my seat near the end there.
Gotta ask, where the hell is everyone? I mean I think it's mentioned why, but it seems a bit odd that not a single person is in these buildings.
@Arion Noble literally nobody asked about the latter info.
@Arion Noble Good to know! :o
I love going back and watching CJU's playlist when I have nothing else on youtube interesting or when I'm sick. While watching this I almost spit out my cola when I saw he worked for Orochi, had no idea this was apart of the Secret World series! I loved the original mmorpg; its honestly probably my most favorite world building.
Subbed and casting my vote for part two. Give them hell, well spoken English gentleman!
Of note perhaps in the greenhouse, many of the species listed are common things, the aloe vera, rubber ficus, snake plants, spider plants, etc, but the plant that Lucas mentions failing to grow is the Peace Lily. Hmm.
“I may just be the maintenance guy up here, but Ima fuckin scientist as well”😂BIG mood
A proper flashlight, FINALLY! And it's nice to have a change of scenery, deep space is awesome. Thank you for this video!
The moment you took off that suit without changing the atmosphere 34:28 I was like CJU NO, DON'T KILL SHANE
Oh this just came out 😂 perfect timing! After a long day at school, I love to unwind to videos like these. Also this seems like a cool game so far, I might give it a try. Thanks CJU!
Yes! Absolutely, positively, continue this game!!! Man, they did the whole slow going , daily slog , and then bam!!! Tense , scary , and stressful!! Awesome!!
Maybe the beginning isn't a dream but beginning of insanity and your mind escapes to safe place and starts fall apart bit by bit.
Facts -Since Mars has less mass than Earth, the surface gravity on Mars is less than the surface gravity on Earth. The surface gravity on Mars is only about 38% of the surface gravity on Earth, so if you weigh 100 pounds on Earth, you would weigh only 38 pounds on Mars.
Being that much lighter, would he still smash his knees if he fell?
Was so excited to see this one pop up. Fuck yeah Lovecraft in space with CJU!
Definitely more of this one, please! We're getting spoiled with all of these long videos. 😁
This has great atmosphere, definitely worth doing this as a series, bring on part two. Awesome!!!👍
Ooh so good...yes, would love to see more! Reminds me a tiny bit of JULIA among the stars...but vastly advanced obviously.. awesome..
Shane’s voice kind of reminds me of John Cusack, I’m not sure why.
You're right, it took me till 53:25 when he's talking about the steam & not wanting to get burned. He does sound exactly like J. Cusack!
Yes, please continue with this game! The game looks so detailed for a scifi cosmic horror game. I like how Shane starts his day on a routine mission to adjust the solar panels while waiting for the supply shuttle to arrive and after heading to the greenhouse, all hell breaks loose. While reading the notes that you showed us, it seems the private corporation Orochi who funded the Mars mission is keeping their operations under wraps from the public, maybe even the governments? Also it seems suspicious for a Mars crew, they have classified areas in the station not accessible to other personnel. There are some things not really explained in this part of the game yet, including Shane's twin moon burn mark on his right hand (which is shown in his dreams), the Rule of Two on finding another type of lifeform other than humans (possibly tying in to the twin moons merging aspect), the sabotage of the solar panels (heavily implied to be Lukas' doing as a distraction on Dr Volkova's research), the crazy doctor herself using a form of bacteria with Earth plants to create those monstrosities and The Thing in the Mist. Really look forward to you playing this game till the end, CJU!
4 years late but thanks for summarizing the reading! I was watching on my phone while cooking dinner and couldn’t pause to read like I usually would.
After discovering you, I like every video before I even watch it, because I've discovered that they'll always be good, and I'm right every time XD
Yeah I definitely want to see more of this! And a weed whacker is not a bad idea, maybe a chainsaw too lol
It's a great time to be a HP Lovecraft nerd.
Looks good! Love to see the ending on this. This game looks like a blend from Alien and the movie Interstellar (in reverse).
Would definitely watch a series for this game, it looks awesome.
Would love to see part two. I can also confirm that it is possible to die in this game. I almost died from falling damage, taking off my helmet in the airlock and twice from running away from the thing in the mist.
Omg!! Yaaas loving this game! Please make this a series this looks soooo good 😍👍
This is coming to PS4 in January so I’m hyped for this!
Damn. Good looking game with good voice work.
I knew I recognized the name of the company Orochi, this is a spin off of The Secret World a MMO set in the modern world where all sorts of Lovecraftian things are attacking...yeah you are working for a crazy company lol.
54:54 um... you should of told me that sooner. 🤷🏽♀️ I mean you’ll have fun. (If you stay positive about it haha!)
Thank you for uploading this, man! Seeing you play these types of games helps me decide whether I want to buy them or not.
I actually got a game over, right about towards where your video ends. It scared the bejeezus out of me! Also finding the yellow cylinder for the water filter took me forever.
56:20 lmfao “you mad bitch. What have you done.” my thoughts exactly.
For some reason i always start watching a new CJU series at or after midnight and freak myself out
Maybe I'll be safe in the vents... someone hasn't seen Alien :D but definitely serialise this
This game looks really good and considering how awesome the story in The Secret World is, we are in for a treat. :)
Thanks for the video!
I would most definitely love to see a part 2 to this video. This is a very fascinating videos and I want to know what kind of creature that really is
Eyyoooo that full hand interaction, tho? When I saw you pick up the moon rock and rotate it around in your hands I immediately thought back to the first time I ever saw a Playstation game and I was like "Oh my god I can't believe how amazingly realistic this is!" even though it wasn't. This is just a simple bit of polish, and I'm sure some other game must have done it at some point, but this was my first time seeing it and I can't describe how much it adds to the game.
CJU: Tentacles already? We're only a couple min. in!
My Weeb Mind: Must be his first hentai...
Definitely need to make a part 2
Heating an Englishman saying “Goodgooglymoogly” was the BEST!!!!!! 😂😆😂💜💜💜
Wow, this game looks really good, lots of detail! The monster design is pretty cool as well. Props to the developers
This game is incredible !!! More please !
I'll have to come back to this. I just received my review copy, and I need to get into it without any spoilers :)
From what I played in conventions - this is going to be a good one.
how ya finding it so far? i to, wana play and stream it but i have been hearing some serious mixed opinions on it.
@@NatesPlayzGamez so far my opinion is also pretty mixed. I like some aspects of it, like the animations and "lore" (the Lovecraftian part) but I dislike the level design and how much busy work everything is...
But it's getting better the more I play, so there's still hope.
@@SleepyDrummer hmm, good to know!!! currently doing a playthrough of outer worlds, but I would love if you could keep me updated on how the game is bro, I would greatly appreciate it :) have an awesome day.
You're vids are so long but they keep me watching
Finally a good playthrough of Moons of Madness! Thank you.
I'm with you. Mars would be tough place to go to. Being there with a small crew, people are going to get on the nerves of other people at times. You'd have to know how to tackle any task. One mistake and the planet will kill you. Add to the lack of air and pressure, super fine dust gets into everything. As more people arrive and the facilities expand, it should be easier to develop a more "relaxing" social life. It'd take a long time to get to that point. I'll take my chances here on Earth. I also noticed your character's right hand looks messed up, like it's infected.
In the game, it looks like some kind of slimy plant is coming to life and turning into humanoid things.
IT'S...T-THE THING!!!
Yes. Part 2 please. I have been waiting for gameplay of this game for forever.
Hey just a quick suggestion, maybe turn your flashlight off during some of the better lit segments? When you were wandering around in brightly lit areas with the flashlight on, it drowns out the details on CZcams really badly.
I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.
@@CJUGames ayyy I got noticed! Thanks mate. If you want specific examples of what I was talking about, when you were wandering around the Myrkat for the first time was when it really got noticeable the most.
I have been waiting and waiting for this to come out ever since I first watched a trailer for it. So far it looks impressive!
The voice acting is amazing when he said "what is that?" I felt chill
We need more games like this in our lives. I really love the art style and how a lot of the mechanics work and look we need more games like this that are a lot longer
omg so fucking awesome love watching you play thank you i really enjoyed it please upload more of this game
Yes please!!!! Good job as always cris thank you...
Great game! I really enjoyed it.
9:35 I turned the volume up at the wrong time all I heard was CJU saying "not sure if I want to play around with my rock" 😂😂 you have been playing some quality games lately!! Truly enjoy...
This is awesome definitely a series!!
Yes! Yes I would like to see a part 2!
Great walkthrough!
With the way Inna was behaving, I'd prefer that she "evolve" with her plants. But then again, who knows. Mayhaps she was the first in the crew who started losing it, and those nightmares that each one were experiencing, was actually a symptom that heads towards that stage. As for the mark on the MC's right hand, it looked more like something branded to the skin. It was bugging me nonstop. Indeed, it can be a symbol of solidarity/brotherhood (especially when there's only 1/2 a moon on his hand), so another crew member might have the other half. Either that, or the MC's got a clone.
So many great games.
An interesting start to the game. In the beginning, I thought that the game started after the disaster had already struck until it was revealed that it was just a dream. From what we've seen up to this part of the game in this video, I am starting to lean more towards the idea that the reoccurring dream, or nightmare, is a premonition or foreshadowing of what is in the store for the crew at the space station, but that is just my take on it. I am curious (and excited!) to see what will happen next.
definatley adding this one to my wishlist on steam, looks great.
Definitely want to see the rest of this!
Lmao you felt so bad for taking off his helmet when the atmosphere was wrong lol
Watching this playthrough and CJU playthrough of "The Conjuring House (The Dark Occult)" and me playing Outlast in the PS4 as a staple for first person horror games
What got me into first person horror games years ago and the rest is history for me and how much I adore watching CJU everyday and first person horror games/indie horror games 💪
Thank you, love it, part 2 please ;)
Yes a part 2 please this was amazing
this reminds me of one of the game that you played some 2-3 years ago . i don't quite remember it well , but i enjoyed that and i am enjoying it as well . Thanks for playing it..
I have this on the PS4,Pass it like 4 or 5 times,It's such a good game I freaking love it!!!!
Weird, is this set in the secret world universe?
I think so!
Yes it is :D
I saw Orochi and went "yup, that explains the tenticles".
I still have about 1.5 hours left to play, but the secret world connections were much stronger than I expected. It's really cool!
What is the "secret world universe?"
When you climbed down into a hatch, at about 1:02 to 1:03, you had to shut off some steam vents. At the end of the passageway, there were two pipes: a shorter height one and a taller one. You could've jumped in the smaller one and then hopped up to the taller one.
Really enjoying it, well detailed and nice atmosphere.
I'd love to see a part 2!
Please play this all the way through!
Like the characters names in this one lol.
I don't know if it would mean anything to you, but I saw this game from MKIceAndFire (completed already all parts) and from you. I chose your video.
YES WE’D LIKE TO SEE A PART 2!
A new one after the Beast Inside, I like it!😋😄
I'm expecting a story arch just like "at the mountains of madness" just in space (obviously).
Amazing game! Hope you continue playing and enjoying it :)
Holy crud...super cool!
“U mad b!tch, what have u done?”🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
This is dope broski
excellent!
The DA for this game is really awesome !
Amazing game I cant wait to see more!!!!!
I think the main character got played. Sucks to be him.
That's me when i realise i am going to be late at work 13:10. Chris's reaction was gold lol
