    The solution is not taking only pills for supplements alone. For instance I know some one who have had signs of Prostate Enlargement (BPH) and started eating a lot of vegetables in his diet - basically eating salads everyday for lunch ,then combine that with lycopene supplements and it has worked because his symptoms have disappeared . So basically combine a vegetable rich diet with supplements and it will work and not create imbalance in your body .

      Lichtblick I agree! Isolated mineral or vitamin supplements are not helpful, but harmful. They are extracted and lab made mixed in with chemicals. I used to take many them and was getting more sick. Now I just take b12 and rely on all my other nutrients from fruits and vegetables. Feeling much better. Isolated supps don't heal the body wholistically just supress some symptoms

      Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) is a complex cobalt-based organic compound that is produced naturally only by bacteria, especially those that are anaerobic (e.g., environments that lack oxygen such as large intestine). Animals, plants, or fungi don't have the enzymes to produce B12.

    Fascinating! I especially liked the line graphs of the beta-carotene & lycopene dosage/cancer-frequency shown side by side. The mystery of why studies were coming out completely contradicting the expected results . . .
    Just goes to show that the old assumption that “If one pill 💊 is good then 10 must be 10x better” obviously is not necessarily always true.
    It is also important to remember that this dovetails rather nicely with those many studies that show that low caloric intake - even when it causes nutritional deficiencies (& thus other health problems) - nonetheless has always correlated with LESS cancer.
    PS: Actually I should have emphasized that a low calorie diet is also correlated with greater longevity - not just less cancer. This is evident in both human & animal studies. (This edit was added a hour or two after the original post).

    • @Stickyweekend
      @Stickyweekend Před 10 měsíci

      No because carcumen, the active ingredient in turmeric is dreadfully insoluble and by definition not bioavailible. The scientific community is so hard pressed to prove any notable anti inflammatory efficacy in relatively healthy humans , current studies are using nano technology to hyper-emulsify ultra pure samples and they still can’t get it to work as much as baby aspirin. Thus, it remains eternally in supplimental status and is still illegal to make direct health claims about it, even though everyone says it works all the time . Only works in extreme cases , limited terminal chronic disease cases and on ultra extreme athletes with unusually high inflammation in muscles , tendons and joints. Quit wasting your money. Or use it topically in an oil extract directly on your skin. More proof of that working. Like tiger balm.

    Dear dr Greger, the part you are showing from min 0:30 is very misleading, and in fact really wrong. You are showing data in Table 1, which is just reporting the molar extinction coefficients of the chemicals investigated in that study. Molar extinction coefficients are used here just to determine the concentrations of those chemical in solution, they have nothing to do with their antioxidant properties (which are shown instead in Table 2, not shown here).

      flyshacker Hi, because of continued soil depletion in many of the world’s “agribusiness”farming practices , artificial fertilizers ,pesticide use , prolonged storage/ transit periods , premature harvesting etc . Simply Because food isn’t what it use to be . Organic Farming , Biodynamic Farming , love the ideas and I believe we will get there eventually.

      @flyshacker Před 6 lety

      I'm sorry to say I thought that was a very verbose article with a lot of posturing. I'm completely on board with going "beyond organic", and I do that in my own vegetable garden. But there was not one word in the article, that I could find, that supported pill supplements in lieu of whole plant nutrition. Dr. Greger is showing repeatedly that supplements tend to be harmful, with the notable exceptions of Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and vegan Omega-3 EPA/DHA supplements for people on a WFPB diet. It doesn't matter that the live ingredients are intact. Dr. Greger's whole thesis is that intact food from whole plants with all the natural proportions of phytochemicals and fiber are the most beneficial for us.
