Your information was PRICELESS!!! But I enjoyed your patient interaction with your boy even more!! The world needs more Dads like you! Keep up the GOOD work!!
Thanks for the very kind message! Make sure and like and subscribe. He makes more appearances in other episodes!
Nice work. Yours was the 3rd video I had to watch before I got any real solution to the corroded battery problem. I actually soaked my mini mag light in water overnight & let it dry completely after knocking the corroded batteries out. Mine had been sitting for 15 months, (covid coincidence? I think not). I ramrodded some steel wool through the tube & reassembled it according to your instructions. Your "helper" was very cute too..."We're saving lives, son" hilarious! 5 Stars.
Thanks Patrick! Glad it helped out to fix your Maglite. My helper makes a grand entrance in our newest video where I show people how to install trim molding. Check it out! Also PLEASE like and subscribe. We need all the help we can get. Thanks!
Worked PERFECTLY with a maglite I got for free because corroded batteries were stuck - Used your method and had it working perfectly in 10 minutes. Thank you so much!
You didn’t save my life but you did save my Mini-Maglite!!
Thank You!! Hope your son isn’t still grounded. 😂
thanks dude, you literally saved my life..... not for corroded batteries, but showing to disengage the led pod from the top by pushing it down the tube. You're a bloody beauty.
You are great! You must to make a handy make over comedy show with your kid look likes the sitcom Home Improvement of the early 90's. You got qualities of stand up comedian👌
Greetings from the Netherlands
You saved my life. Let your kid know.
Extra points for handling the wild beast like a pro.
Thank you for continuing to record this video...He actually said "Can I love you?" Absolutely adorable!! ( play this video when he's a teenager please) AND this actually did not save my life BUT it saved our flashlight. Unfortunately we damaged the LED bulb in a previous attempt to get the battery out. I wish I had of watched your video first. Thanks again.
Can't believe this video popped up in my feed! I lost one of those identical flashlights many years ago, and just found it last week. Went to change the batteries, and they were FROZEN. Couldn't get the second battery out, and didn't know how to get the LED out, so I threw it in the garbage. Just pulled it out of the garbage and used the socket trick. Couldn't hammer it out, so I had to go to an arbor press and press it out. I had to get all the crap inside of the light body out with a file because it was so bad. Put it back together and it works! THANK YOU!!! 👍
Thanks man. I was at the edge of giving up, and decided to youtube for tricks and found ur simple video.
Thank you. I have searching for a little while for someone who has made a video showing clearly how to overcome this problem.
You saved my life 😂😂
Thank you, the information that you provided was very helpful! once I cleaned the tube and used a little WD-40 on the inside, my light worked like new!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing. Worked great! After the socket, I had to use a screwdriver and hammer to push the batteries down. I broke my little plastic piece almost in half, but just put the biggest piece back in with it and it worked! Saves me from buying another one for a few years anyways :)
Hey Lorry! Glad it worked! Let me know what we should fix next!
You guys make a great team!
2 years in the bottom of a trade show bag.
Thanks for sharing, worked flawlessly
Thank you! This worked for me, but I was concerned about the plastic bulb holder in mine. It turned out not to be a problem. Battery is OUT. Thanks again!!
Thanks for this. Saved me from throwing out the Mini-Mag. Now I just need to figure out how to apply this concept to corroded LED Christmas tree light sockets...
Hey Adam- Glad we helped saved your Maglite! How did the Christmas tree sockets work out?
Nice job right to the point without an hour long preamble and commentary as some like like to hear themselves talk. Liked the "interruption" too, very human side. Yah 5 stars
Thanks for posting. I have a few flashlight with this problem, glad I saved them for many, many years so now I can try this. In my cases they were always the Duracell brand that exploded/leaked and got stuck. Mine are older models so ther don’t have the led cap so they require more steps (i saw on someone else’s video) to remove the bulb and bulb assembly safely. You video is better because of your kid. Hilarious and well played!
Hey Jordan! Glad you liked the video. My kid makes a grand entrance in our newest one where I show people how to install trim molding. Check it out! Also PLEASE like and subscribe. We need all the help we can get. Thanks!
Thank you I finally understood what I had to do after your helper showed up 😊. Seriously though I liked the instructions.
Okay the socket idea was genius!!!! Thank you!
May 2024 repaired a led maglite following this procedure. It works.
Thanks Sir. Yesssss. You save my Maglite !!!! Also I enjoyed this video with your son. Thank you. From Mexico.!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video and that we saved your Maglite! Please like and subscribe so we can make more!!
Thanks for the help, I was able to fix one I gave my Dad a few years ago. He forgot to check the batteries and they leaked, luckily it wasn't too bad.
Cool. I’ve had one of these sitting around and finally thought to look it up online. Guess I’ll give it a shot so, I need to go. 😁
Hey Donnie! Checking in. Did the video help get your Maglite going?
Nice job bro! Thank you for making this video!
Thanks for the tips. I’ll give ur a shot.
Thanks! Loved the little guy!
Truly a life saver! Thanks a lot!
Very helpful video, I'm here because I have the same problem.
A side note, your producer is very pushy. Lol. Seriously, enjoy even the trying times with him. My son is 15 and I miss his toddler years more than anything.
Thanks for the comments! My boy is making another appearance in one of our next videos. Make sure and like and subscribe so we can keep making these. Thanks for the support!
Wow thanks it’s a great video so helpful again thanks and God bless you and your family
Thanks!! Worked for me👍🏼
You helped me with this video and I got a nice laugh because of your son. I agree, the video was better because he was in it. And yes, you saved my life.
Thanks, that was useful:) Second time I had a Maglite Mini with corroded batteries inside.
Glad it helped! Please like, share and subscribe so we can keep these going! Thanks!
What size socket did you use? Thank you very much.
Thank you. It worked.
Your son is adorable so precious im giving you a thumbs up and subscribing for him be nice to your babies no ones future is certain
brilliant! thanks.
got two to fix!
Thank u I love back voice looks so cute❤❤ easy way to change old one battery.
My life has been saved!
Found one 2 days ago at my local supermarket's recycling bin for waste electronics somebody threw away. 😇🤗
It had that miniature (working !) traditional glass krypton bulb. So not an LED. I'm going to get that upgrade for it in the future. 🤔😎
Anyways... a wedged leaked Duracell AA batery was stuck inside. But I was able to get the battery out from the other side by gently hitting that plastic piece to push it out. 😊👍
Luckily the leak wasn't big & the corrosion on the inner metal tube part wasn't significant. So I just used some sanding paper & a metal file to remove the jagged surface left by the alkaline liquid from the battery. 🙄😏
I put some minerail oil on the inside of the walls of the metal tube part of the flashlight to ensure easy sliding of AA batteries out. 😆
Saving lives. What a hero. 🤣
Excellent!
Super vid, thx!
edit: use citric acid or vinegar to clean up the tube
Thanks for the recommendation!
I was not as lucky, my older style mini mag had both batteries corrodes. I did take a deep well socket to drive them out, however, it was not a love tap, it took quite a bit of force to remove them.
Tried to do it this way, but no luck. Had to revert to drilling a hole in a still rather live battery (I thought: 'it's leaking, so it's probably dead'... well no, it wasn't...) and then screw a nice large 80 millimeter long wood-screw into 'em (I'm Dutch, no idea what you call a 'spaanplaatschroef' in English).
Thought I would get it out easily once the screw was in, but I had to grip the head of the screw in a vise and use all my 55 kilo to pull on the light until it eventually started moving. Still took a shitload of force but eventually a satisfying 'plop' made sure it was out.
Oh btw, please just interrupt the video if your kid comes in. They only grow up once ;)
Works great - just had to do the same to one of mine.
For your future reference in order to clean the battery acid. You can mix a solution of water and baking soda and that will eat up the acid and clean the housing.
This works on lead acid(car) batteries. Alkaline batteries are not acid they are a base. So vinegar or some other acidic substance neutralizes it.
Very helpful. Mine still works intermittently, but I think the LED is bad. One note, although the socket trick worked, I should have gone down one size more (just covering the LED). I crushed the plastic tube. Still went back in, however it was pretty mangled…thanks for this.
Absolutely right on the smaller socket tip, I couldn't get it to work until I read your comment. Luckily I only partly damaged my plastic tube before checking some more and trying the smaller socket just over the bulb.
@@saxonuk14 glad to hear that. 😊
Thanks, that worked
Good video and very funny! 😛
Thanks for the review! Just posted a new video where my kid makes a grand entrance…check it out! It’s the trim molding video. Also PLEASE like and subscribe. Need all the help we can get!! THANKS!
Good pop!
What if you can’t unscrew the end cap that threads in?
Hey Mark! Try using some lemon juice or vinegar on the cap. It neutralizes the battery acid. Then get some pliers or vice grips on the end cap and give it a twist. Let me know if it worked!
@@restomod101 I've got the same issue. Tried some pliers and it is stuck. Will try a soak and see if it comes off.
Nice job handling your interruption lol. As an added tip, soaking the tube (minus electronics) in white cider vinegar for a couple hours can help make that cleanup/brushing out a lot easier and less traumatic to the flashlight than using a screwdriver to scrape it out.
Tried that, didn't help at all. Had to use insane force to get it out (insane force in this case: drilling a hole in the stuck battery (which was still rather live even though very leaky) and then getting a large screw in. Levering it out by using a pair of large pliers did not work, I had to put the head of the screw in a vise and then pull on the battery with my full bodyweight (55 kilo) and still had trouble getting it out.
Cleaning was a shit process as well. Soaked the entire battery-holder assembly in a bag completely filled with vinegar and scrubbed the living daylight out of the insides with an old toothbrush and scraped with scalpels, but it's still not completely clean.
@@weeardguy yeah I was referring to soaking the tube in vinegar AFTER physical removal of the batteries not before. Soaking before removal, I would think might actually result in more gunk from within the batteries coating them inside the tube and potentially making extraction more difficult. Could be wrong though. Based on your description of extraction of the batteries, sounds like you had a rather extreme case of corrosion.
@@timothyhedrick5295 Well, I didn't refer to soaking it in vinegar before physical removal as well. I soaked the battery-holder assy but sure as hell not with the battery still in it.
As vinegar neutralizes the acid, I can't think it will make matters worse friction-wise, but I doubt it would have made a difference in this one ;)
Yeah and the worst is that it was a write-off from work, where I have been one of many that had to replace the Maglite because of leaky batteries. Thank god we have switched to Varta batteries that aren't as prone to premature leakage... But I have now noted on my tool checklist to inspect the maglite once every 6 months...
Thank you sir! Way to multi task by the way! 🤣
Just finding this because I have this issue. However the top of my flashlight does not screw off… I’ve tried. It’s not the same brand as yours… it’s frustrating me but unless I can screw the top off I think my little tiny flashlight is for the scrap heap.
Saving peoples lives!!!
Mine is not LED, but a bulb light. Any recommendations?
I have the exact same lite and the original Duracell batteries are stuck in it. Because it was the bottom battery this did not work. Even using a 5lb hammer it did not work at all. I was hitting so hard that the bottom of the lite was getting distorted, those batteries are fused to the walls.
What size socket did you use for the LED maglite mini?
I'm Dutch, so don't get me going on this one: I used an 8 mm socket. That's 0.314 Inch, but don't get me started on what the actual designation is in imperial sizes ;) I guess, judging how close it is to a 1/3 of an inch it probably is, but hey, I'm a metric guy ;) (and always get a headache at work, where i have to deal with imperial sizing/dimensions a lot...).
But mine was so stuck I could not get it out this way. I had to drill a hole in the battery and get a thick screw in and then pull on it like mad (I needed my full body weight (55 kilo) and it still was hard)
Hey, my metal thing (spring I guess) broke off. Can I use aluminum foil?
Hmm. I would try to use the piece of the spring that broke off and wedge it between the battery and the contact. Good luck!
just came across this problem internet has answers.... entertaining with the kid funny
what if it's a pen laser that the top doesn't come off?
So worked!
Nice! Glad it worked for you! Please make sure and like and subscribe. Thanks for the support!
LMAO !!! saving lives 🤣. So my Solitaire Mag won't open where I put my batteries in. I am wondering if the corrosion sealed up the opening and it is a mother to unscrew, I've tried pliers and tapping it. It is really stuck.
Question for anyone that might know. Would a bit of dielectric grease help prevent the corroded battery/batteries from sticking to the walls?
What if the bottom part won’t come off?
I have several Maglites and each and every time it’s a stuck Duracell battery. I’ve stopped using them now .
1st. I have a mini-Maglite, 2 AA
The insides look new at both ends, but the batteries are REALLY STUCK
I've tried water and baking soda, 2-days
I've tried WD40, 2-days
I've tried vinegar, 2-days
I tried pounding them out with a long punch ruining the switch on top and the batteries just will not budge????????
Excellent. Have been unable to remove the batteries and was concerned about doing damage to the mimi mag. Hilarious commentary with young younger assistant.
Guten Tag Der Spassvogel! Glad the video worked for you and your Maglite. Check out our new video on installing trim molding, where my kid makes a grand entrance. Also PLEASE like and subscribe. We need all the help we can get! Thanks!
Cool❤❤❤❤❤
That might work better for the many without welders drill, pressures, drill, guns, and any other machinery that is needed. Thank you.
Can you demo on a red dot scope???
Hey Ryan! Sure. Send it to us and we will do our best not to destroy it. Thanks for the comment and please like and subscribe!
Ahhh...real world dad...
Can I send my Mini to you to fix? Thanks for the info. ❤
Well, I guess you can send it but I offer no guarantees, refunds, warranties, credits or allow any negative reviews on my work! Thanks for the comment. Please like and subscribe!!
What if the end cap where you get the battery out is stuck. It feels like its glued solid and will not budge.🙁
Try heat. Heat will make the metal expand. Just don’t melt the rubber gasket! If that doesn’t work try soaking the cap in white vinegar. That will dissolve the acid. Good luck and be careful!
@@restomod101 Wow thank you for the wonderful reply.
A long white vinegar soak helps
The same procedure works on the non-LED version.
Hey Rafael! Thanks for sharing that. Hope it helps some other viewers!
Yeah this is perfect world stuff . How about when you've drilled the battery from the bottom it still won't come .If you hit from the top the plastic skaters because it still has batteries welded to the side.
I managed to get it all out , but the LED does not light, with new batteries !
my battery cap wont budge at all, any tips?
Try using a pick or thin screwdriver and put it through the hole in the cap that’s designed for a clip or holder. Use the the tool for leverage. If you have the end of the flashlight facing you turn it counter clockwise. You can also try spraying some WD40 where the threads are. If that doesn’t work apply heat where it screws in. Be careful as it will be hot to handle it so make sure you where protective gloves.
@@restomod101 last night i tried wd40 and putting something through the hole for leverage but it didnt work and even started to bend that part of the battery cap, ill try again with some heat but if that doesnt work im gonna give up
@@ethanlaudato8731 another idea is to try soaking the end of the flashlight in Vinegar. That will break down the battery acid. Let us know if that works!
Hey Ethan you can also try soaking it in lemon juice. That will dissolve the battery acid too. Keep us posted!
can’t even get the battery cap off mine it’s completely stuck

Doesn't work .I hammered until I was blue and still could not get the corroded batteries out.
That’s not good. Here’s a couple extra pointers, spray the inside walls of the Maglite with electronic contact cleaner and then try and tap it out. If you don’t have any get a eye dropper or syringe and carefully pour in 5-10 drops of Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). You can also try lemon juice or white vinegar. Let me know if that works!!
@@restomod101 _ have tried WD40 with no positive result. I haven't tried the vinegar (acidics) or my electronic contact cleaner. Seems the corrosion (white powder) expands the batteries inside against the walls and a hammer and wrench sockets couldn't make it move.
Wd40 isn’t going to do much with neutralizing the corrosion. Try lemon juice or white vinegar. Let me know what happens!
"EASLY"... hum !
I think I need to use an arbor press.
Please film that and post it! Or you can use vinegar or lemon juice to dissolve the battery acid. Either way Good luck!
Lmfao. !!! I'm saving people's lives !!! Lol
+1 for the kid
My kid makes a grand entrance n our newest video where we show how to install trim molding. Check it out and PLEASE like and subscribe. Need all the help we can get. Thanks!
Sheesh. I hope this helps.
Invariably the end cap is stuck also if the battery is stuck, so how do we get the end cap off? These are a very poor design of torch, how many videos on this problem are out there?! I wouldn't buy another one that's for sure.
That back opening thing is to tight for me
Try using a pick or thin screwdriver and put it through the hole in the cap that’s designed for a clip or holder. Use the the tool for leverage. If you have the end of the flashlight facing you turn it counter clockwise. You can also try spraying some WD40 where the threads are. If that doesn’t work apply heat where it screws in. Your battery is not leaking much. There is no movement with batteries truly welded to the body.
Have a few of those mini mags, none of the end caps could be screwed out due to major battery corrosion even using a pipe wrench to the point of destroying it. The others immersed in penetrating oil for months, no can do because of the liquid tight O ring blocking any penetration. I bought a dozen of them over time and left it everywhere like tool boxes car glove box compartments and forgot to change out the batteries every few years. Alkaline batteries even top quality ones will leak, recharables not so much. Maglites were the tops in its days, fortunately we have better flashlights much brighter and cheaper with multiple functions like flashing, dimming and annunciation to change or recharge the batteries.
Alkaline batteries don't have any acid in them, they have alkali, the opposite of acid.
Same effect though. An alkali burns just as readily as an acid does.
@@Backoffboogaloo However, one neutralizes alkali by putting acid on it, so it's *not the same*, if you put more alkali because some ignorant fool who thinks "it's the same because it burns" told you there was acid in the batteries, you just make things *worse*.
@@diamaunt2782 how about you read my comment again. I did not say they were the same.
@@Backoffboogaloo Ah, the futility of youtube comments. "same effect" you allege, while in fact it's not.
@@diamaunt2782 don’t you try to argue semantics when you didn’t read my comment properly in the first place. A chemical burn is a chemical burn no matter whether an acid or an alkali is involved. Same effect. I did NOT say it was the same, nor did I even say they were burning in the same manner. The effect is the same. It’s a chemical burn. Very similar kinds of tissue damage. The only difference is in the treatment. You need to know which one is the culprit in order to treat it. It’s a bit like ethanol and methanol. Very similar effect but opposite molecules. In fact you can use ethanol to treat methanol poisoning.
Now. What was the point of of arguing when I told you already that you misread my comment?
Ps before you comment further, please be aware that my degree is in chemistry.
Gently MY ASS... had to flog the thing! After two days of emersion in vinegar and flogging, using a press and serious persuasion I'm getting very close with both batteries out only items in the tube are LED unit and a socket. Good news is that maglite.com customer support was great, sending me damaged LED parts FREE with only $8 fee.
Ha! Man I wish you would have filmed that. Yup Maglite support is solid. Post some pics if you can and good luck!
Next time PAUSE the Video and PAY ATTENTION to your son!
"something important" was that child demanding your attention. The flashlight and the video will take care of themselves. Love it when pets and kids (and wives) step into the picture. Cut! Take two!
You're grounded!

I was so pi$$ed off, that I smacked it 200 times with a hammer and threw it in the garbage. Not worth it consider Amazon has it for $16.
Aw man I get it. Been there. But next time take video of that and post it!!Thanks again for watching. New episodes posting soon!
@@restomod101 - One doesn't need a posting video to know what one has to endure. Imagine me at my steel vise. I lift my maul up and use a socket and extension to apply to the cylinder. Then, I repeated (25 times) smack the flashlight with the maul another 10 times to crush it. Then, I "forwarded" my sentiments to the trash bin 5 feet away. A dazzling display of being pi$$3ed.. I notified MagLight and they offered to "upgrade" it by sending it in (would cost me $10 for postage and a $7 return trip to the post office. I see it sold and delivered free to me for $16.95. They said, "not covered because of battery corrosion and it's a design product that won't let someone remove batteries. The unmitigated gall.
