“Kermit” is such a sweetie, much like “Corky” who was also blind and lived at the San Diego Zoo. Corky was a harbor seal and Kermit is a monk seal. The trainer is using a method called “targeting” or “target training” which is a form of communicating with the animal, a source of comfort and helps animals build a stronger relationship (and trust) with trainers, owners, and anyone else who cares for them.

Can see the difference by looking how fat is stored, seals get fat on area of their body designed for it (they don't get fat flippers, neck or head)
