    Clinch fighting is an art all to itself. I guess a lot of purist boxing fans would see it as unsportsmanlike or boring but i think its a great tactic not just defensively but offensively as well. I guess this view comes from being a fan of mma. i don't know why it isn't taught a lot more in boxing gyms how to use it as a weapon

      Personally I'd love to see clinch work being trained in every boxing gym. There's multiple different techniques to clinching in boxing that will give you a huge advantage in a fight against a boxer that didn't practice them.

    I thought you weren't allowed to hold your opponent?

  • @jonyb0b13
    @jonyb0b13 Před 8 lety +22

    Why is clinching allowed? Mayweather abuses it; which results to boring fights. Boxers should fight their way out. A couple of clinches here and there is fine but 70 clinches (like may weather) a fight ruins the sport.

      Hi +jonyb0b13, thank you for your question.
      Clinching certainly can make some fights boring , but I'm afraid it will never go away. Most fighters who use holding in their game are boxers and not sluggers or aggressive fighters. Boxers want to move and use their skills to keep out of trouble, but when the aggressive fighter gets too close for comfort the only thing to do for the boxer is to tie their opponent up.
      A fantastic boxer back in the day was Meldrick Taylor. If you watch his 1st fight against Chavez (it was a great fight) in my personal opinion I think if Taylor had used the clinch he could well have won this fight. Because Taylor didn't think to use the clinch to allow him to have a breather every now and again he let Chavez back into the fight allowing him to get close and get his shots off. Clinching would not only have allowed Tayloe to rest, but his could have stifled Chavez's inside work at the same time.
      I don't think clinches will ever go in boxing, and I think using the clinch cleverly is actually an important part of ring craft. But I do think aggressive fighters should train more to avoid getting in clinches and learn how to use clinches to their benefit, this will keep boxing evolving :-)
      Thanks again for your question jonyb0b13 and keep up the training
      Cheers

      Clinching is a tool boxers used it when they get hurt and that’s ok of course you won’t just stand there and get koed but to make a clinch your boxing style that pull shit try clinch in Olympic or in any amateur championship and they what the referee has to say, all great fighters never clinch unless they hurt badly

      I agree but sometimes when I get buzzed in mma sparring i might shoot for a double leg because it gives you a bit of time, but still that leads to other problems like triangles, giouttines etc...
