I was taught them very differently, yoko otoshi just like the video but uki waza almost entirely a throw from the hands, from the kuzushi, I'm sure there is old video of the technique being done by stepping back and dropping to one knee instead of the lateral drop.
The Kata Guruma and Yoko Otoshi bred a real bastard of a new throw now. I don't hate it completely, but its funny how Kata Guruma finds a way back.

One of my favorite throws, recently. Though, instead of a sleeve grip, I tend to use overhooks.

中学生最後の大会の個人戦で延長戦で、試合の流れの中でとっさにかけて逆転の一本をとった技。自分自身、技をかけた意識がなく審判のコールに驚いた。
数年後、大人になってからあの時の技が｢横落とし｣と分かった。

Is Yoko-otoshi and Uki waza the same technique?
Different directions. Yoko-otoshi is a sideways throw, uki-waza is a forward throw. The mechanics are similar.
