Garou: Mark of the Wolves is Fatal Fury 5. There's an actual Fatal Fury 3, which spawned the "Real Bout" side series. Sorta like SF3, SF3: 2nd Impact, SF3: 3rd Strike. For Fatal Fury, the series goes:

Even Real Bout 2’s canon is debatable; a 2005 radio drama tried to retcon the game out for example.
@@austinreed7343 All fatal fury games are called Garou. Fatal Fury is their non japanese name. For some reason they didn't call it Fatal Fury for MOTW in the rest of the world and now everyone confused just refers to it as if Garou is a different game.
Garou MOTW is just Fatal Fury MOTW, and therefore the next game is Fatal Fury COTW.

What I was saying is that Real Bout 2 as at one point non-canon; but now it apparently is; this means Memory of Stray Wolves has been retconned.
The OD and super arts look awesome, especially when Rock looks like he is teleporting for his next moves.

Facts someone that knows what he's talking about. Capcom and SNK have had a friendly rivalry for years. Capcom and snk fighting games are similar because capcom and snk are the same employees. Capcom employees left to and work at snk and vice versa. When snk went into bankruptcy a lot of snk employees went to capcom

It's mad ironic that it's like a revisit to the late 90s where Garou and SF3 series were close to each other in time release. Albeit, the original SF3 came out sometime before Garou. But SF6 and City of the Wolves with similar defense mechanics (Parry and Just Defend) just like SF3 and MotW we come almost full cycle.
But, Capcom and SNK always borrowed from each other over the years so I shouldn't be too surprised.

Garou is one of those games that once you play it, you'll be thankful that you've heard about it. I had a great time beating the game with Khushnood Butt. It is dubbed the SNK Third Strike for a reason.

For those of us that remember and experienced the 2D fighting game scene of the 90s, SNK had it on lock in 94 and 95. They were practically unstoppable in regard to 2D.

This seems to be a very good time for people to join the fgc, there's a lot of good games and some good ol' classic type games coming. As a 40yo gamer and fighting games enthusiastic fan, I'm hyped. I remember playing Garou in the arcades
While you're right there are a lot of good titles out and coming out the FGC only promotes 3 SF, Tekken and MK. And out of those three the fgc is currently tly killing MK

im so excited for this game playing Mark of the wolves and King of fighters 13 were what got me into SNK games and they're one of my fav fighting companies now. really excited for where they go with the story in this game bc i love playing the arcade story mode in the original game seeing all the different endings and rival fights
FF looking real good. My gripe with SNK fighters is that they still won’t implement a WiFi filter. Plus, they gotta have that god-like netcode like S6 has; they set the standard on how good netcode should be.
Capcom only just got their net code right they've struggled for years like many other fighting games. GGS set the standarded. People behaving like snk are the only ones to F up netcode
GGS netcode is good, but the concensus is that SF6’s netcode is like 2nd to none. There’s absolutely no excuse in this day & age for any fighting game to have poor netcode and no WiFi filtering period!
@@ReginaldVannison7777 SF6 got released second half of last year. KOF15 got released 2 years ago when people still didn't have their netcode together. My thing is other games didn't have good netcode dragon ball z is notorious for having bad netcode the game is still going strong

The Kyokugenryu fighter in Mark of the Wolves is called Marco Rodriguez / Kushnood Butt. And Ryo is pronounced Re-O.
the sound tracks for garou were fire too.....all of em......only thing i see could use a lil polish right now is terry buster wolf could use a lil more impact for the hits.....and hotaru's super needs that black background and the screen shakes as well
They did make the original Garou online. You can still buy it on PS4. They even updated it not too long ago with rollback.

I have a feeling this game is going to be huge.. as in MUCH bigger than all other SNK fighters. I'm loving every single thing I see. The graphics have a ton of personality (finally). Deep as hell mechanics. Awesome animation. It's old school in every way but finally with a bigger budget and top tier talent on board. Also.. I'm big on stages for some reason and I like every stage I'm seeing here more than SF6. Oozes arcade fun with the vibrant color and locations. It looks to be scratching an itch that SF6 isn't scratching (still love SF6 though)

That's a good one to bring back. Capoeira can be greatly enhanced with good 3d animations and modern 3d physics, compared to capoeira in 2d fgs.
Another example, but not speaking of capoeira is Duck King. His dancing stance, with mohawk and large and loose clothes, run on well made graphics and animation would look amazing. It's another type that can be enhanced by 3d.

People cry about even a SF sequel, because they will have to learn things from scratch, because the games change mechanics.
And SNK games belong in a zone where they can't be called radically different from SNK, like Marvel... But they aren't similar to SF either, like in a way that's super easy to transition. So it seems people (the ones that actually are good willing) get frustrated about failing at that transition.

I loved art of fighting, fatal fury 3,real bout and special, garou Mark of the wolves but this one does not feel like garou. It's more king of fighters than anything else at first glance (combo structure and gameplay/neutral game, not team versus obviously)
I know what you mean, snk were always good at separating the IP's yes they share the same characters but each title felt different.
In the past the differences between the games was more notable because of some general conceptions about gameplay in the 90s. Like combos were shorter. But in this modern 2010s era of fgs the combos became longer and flashier in all games. It's not that they are the same but the flashiness increased in all games, just in different rates. So that's why the combo style won't feel very close to a 90s game.
But pay attention and notice that's also true for SF and MK. Like, besides custom combos in SF (including things like Yun's Genei Jin) it was never a game of long and flashy combos. Also classic MK doesn't have long combos, just those dial up strings. But now every went to that direction of more combos. (Except Samsho I guess).

The Sad Part is, Fatal Fury at it's core even at it's absolute best and reaching it's fullest potential is just Street Fighter gameplay minus two buttons (4 buttons vs 6 buttons) so to the casual player why settle for anything less (4 buttons) when you can have the best (6 buttons) This can even be used as Marketing to completely butcher Fatal Fury as a whole, and repositions it as an unplayable wannabe.. Very easy to do that.
Another example is Fatal Fury Special, hands down the best up to that point in it's release with competition and a lot of depth.. Yet still Tiers below even the worst SF2 (The Vanilla Super SF2.. NOT ST)
FF became very similar to SF but only in Garou MOTW. Before that it was sufficiently different. The lane system started pretty rough but that's besides the point, and anyways it became viable by the time of RBFF2. And that game doesn't even have 2 punches and 2 kicks, just to show how different it was. And RBFF1 had limited space stages and ring outs.
What I mean is that older games were experimental and weren't trying to straight up copy SF. In the beginning of SNK that idea didn't exist. And that's why SNK was able to contribute with a decade worth of small but significant inventions to the genre.
In terms of creativity I don't care and won't defend the 00s form of SNK (Playmore), much less the current form, those periods when it became more often to straight up take mechanics from Capcom to refresh their sequels like KOF assists, KOF tag, ex moves (which I never approved in SNK games)... But I will defend that the early form of SNK was very focused on creativity, gameplay innovations and artistic expression. And it was Capcom that relied on that for quite some time in the 90s. It would have been easier and safer just copy SF2, after all. But no... In 92 (one year after SF2) FF and AOF already had supers and AOF had dashes. And in 93 Samsho introduced running, the rage system, etc. None of those mechanics came from copying Capcom or anyone else.
