'#1 Crush' is one of the most malevolent songs ever to sneak into the Top 40. Sure, there have been songs about dangerous obsession before, one of the most famous being 'Every Breath You Take'. But where that song has a lyrically neutral tone that can be taken in good or bad terms, 'Crush' leaves no doubt in the listener. Whoever she is singing to, (and it might be you), is probably headed for a bad end.
She isn't a damsel in distress, her vibe is more like, I'm going to follow you home and you won't know until I ring the bell! On stage she looks a little possessed but when she steps back from the microphone stand all you see is a cute girly girl!
I miss the 90s so much. Never thought the world would go down the direction that it did. Imagine if western society kept down the right path from the 90s instead of the woke sterile cultural wasteland we live in today
this live performance is the best I have seen. the depth of emotion, the lyrics ,are as heavy as it gets .listen to it every day never tire of it ,utterly brilliant.
The bass player gets no love from the camera 😐 even though the bass line is what drives this song
I like how she never smiles.
I do not know why they did not get bigger. They are so good.
The end of the crush
20 years later and I ended up marrying him
F*cking holy sh*t. Many years later this song still tears me apart and this performance probably will be forever its best version.

Her accent comes out more live than in the studio, love it.

One of the toughest love songs ever written.
Such an underrated band imo. From song writing to production and sound quality. Masterclass
I can’t get enough of this song even 27 years later
your new crush puts this song on, turns the lights down, crawls on top of you...jfc what i'd give to relive that moment.
This might be my favorite song of the alternative rock era of the 1990's. It's SO haunting. :)
Every time I hear this song, I need a cigarette.
2020 and still one of several all time favorite songs for me.

That bass line makes the song that much more haunting and dark. This is the music of my late HS and college years. Where has it gone????
