I've watched Randolph Scott in many movies with well-known and lesser-known actors. Scott always stand out. He maybe just standing against a wall or the major character he makes the picture. I do not know what it is, just great.
I think one his last films was directed by Pekimpah,,, Ride the last Sierra or something. It would have been perfect in THE WILD BUNCH, but Hol;den was Holden. Anyway he was a rich man and died - not horribly - at 90. My poor Gran pa - same class, had a leg blown out, in that carnage they call I wwwar/ sick all his life he died at 67. All this actors went to war, but... in cushy jobs...

Btw - I think Scott was in the military in WW I but I doubt he had a cushy job as he was not yet the famous actor he was to become. Sorry to hear about your grandfather - I’m sure he was an good man who served honorable.
Edgar Buchanan said he should not have given up dentistry in the beginning of the movie. Truth is always stranger than fiction. Buchanan was a dentist in real life, before he began acting.

You know as I watch this it seems to me that things haven't changed much law and order wise, the ones who have the most to lose are the ones that are willing to turn a blind eye to what happens. When walking with a lady, walk on the outside so as to protect her from traffic. Always look your best even at work. Never take advantage of those who are week. Always tell the truth. Stand up for your beliefs. Use violence only to protect yourself and your loved ones as a last resort. Make sure if you have to fight, Win at all costs. And always be polite. I have lived by these and worked to look after my loved ones. As for political views, well to be honest more to the right. Old England isn't the country it used to be.
It is true that standards are set from the top. Here we have a president with no moral standards at all, his only interest is in making money for himself and his family and he doesn't care if people know he uses the presidency to do it.

This is a good example of the difference between sheriff's and marshals. Randolph Scott is the town marshal with jurisdiction only in the town, but the short fat sheriff is in charge of the whole country. They also had a conversation where the fat sheriff was saying he may go up for re-election: the sheriff is an elected position whereas marshals are appointed. There are also different marshals. Scott was the town marshal but US Marshals have jurisdiction anywhere in the US enforcing federal laws. Obviously, sheriff and town marshals only enforced local ordinances

Sorry to disagree about this movie but the saloons and such paid town taxes just like everyone else and just like everyone else part of that goes to pay for a sheriff to protect them not watch as they are destroyed.

This is a good example of the difference between sheriff's and marshals. Randolph Scott is the town marshal with jurisdiction only in the town, but the short fat sheriff is in charge of the whole country. They also had a conversation where the fat sheriff was saying he may go up for re-election: the sheriff is an elected position whereas marshals are appointed. There are also different marshals. Scott was the town marshal but US Marshals have jurisdiction anywhere in the US enforcing federal laws. Obviously, sheriff and town marshals only enforced local ordinances
