Honestly, watching these shorts over the months has made me realize how much I would love a "Let's talk about RWBY's character designs" video

@@kerrycherry3713 yes she did, but I'm pretty sure the two of them have different opinions on the designs of RWBY.
She also has two 1 hour+ podcast videos talking about RWBY character designs with Twiins and Allison, they’re really good! I often come back to them.

@@bruvance she's talked about individual character designs themselves, but, in her "Let's talk about ..." videos she picks a topic from rwby and really finds the root(s) of the problems with said topic

It’s weird that Blake’s bow changes color during the prom episodes. At first I wondered if the animators changed its color to the brighter teal to better see it and make adjustments. But it looks so similar to the balloons in the background that I wonder if the color/texture file of her bow accidentally got swapped with the balloons’ color/texture.

Ozpin could GET it i cant believe the slander critter had he is serving, simple design yes but he just looks so good in it, big L that hes not that way anymore lol
Also I think all of Nora‘s designs are very cute they really show off her kinda of like pinkie pie personality I love her
I forgot that Weiss slowly had less white because white was being used to represent Altas. Fucking start calling the show RBBY because she might as well be called Bleiss

I remember that when I saw your short about Winter, I realised that her boots looked a little like futuristic-esque prosthetics and that spawned an entire web of ideas in my head about how it would change the show. I desperately wanted to draw some ideas digitally, but my laptop was being repaired so I couldn't, and by the time I got it back, I'd forgotten.
But this video has reminded me and I'm maybe gonna give it a go in the next few days. And also maybe try and improve on her design because you raise some good points about the dissonance it has.
I have learn so much about character design with you. may i ask something? when you finished review the other volumen costume, have you ever considered review the grimm design, ice queendom (despise its flaws the visual symbolism was strong) or fan animation you had seen (like slvr)? I know its a lot but i love to hear your opinions

4:49 i personally think nora would have looked cuter if instead of the soft red/blue in the center of her belly, it was a green like her eyes to tie into ren or a very dark magenta. the blue/red kind of gives a robot feeling, which would be cute if... she was a robot

wow, looking at the art of team NDGO after half an hour of rwby designs makes me realize there are some designs that i think would really benefit from characters having different body types. seeing their concepts translated into the show was like a jumpscare reminder that every girl in rwby is the same exact shape

I disagree on Sun, love his design. I don’t think he needs to be more on the nose than rn on the Wukong inspiration, and I love how his gauntlets are the highlights of his outfit. Reminds me of 90’s action movie protag outfits.
So I already watched these when they were shorts but I had to watch this again bç I love your critiques not just as a subscriber but as someone who does and appreciate art myself. I like the terminology you use, the references, comparison and contrast with the characters with other characters. I especially love that you can break down the smaller aspects and colors and build up to define the whole of a character and how it really helps define the character in the show.

As with the fast reviews, it's surprising watch how long are all this quick shorts when they get together.

Greek is more better than Roman. Because of her shield, spear and sword combo. Like when she uses sword it looks like a real life greek sword and most of the time greeks only used armour for their legs, torso and head. And fantasy element are arms. Irl they didnt need it. Cause they had their big ahh bronze shields
And Romans normally used rectangular shields while Greeks more commonly used circular ones.
You should make a video giving critique to your viewers' ocs/character designs!
You know I couldn't figgure out why I didn't like Yang and Wiss season 1 outfits but your explanations made sense as to why I'm not a huge fan of season 1 outfits.
Ruby's volume 2 outfit was peak Ruby for me. I'm not a fan of how they did the corsette with the strings in the later volumes
I think my favorite designs from v 1-3 are pyrrah, glinda, and nora. Qrow if I had to choose a male design.
Hey Critter, could I post this on the RWBY subreddit? Even though the fandom can get pretty toxic, I think character designs are one of the few things the fandom can discuss at least somewhat amicably.

We have a s-ton of characters but imho only two are too good to be true: Pyrrha standard and Yang Huntress.
Ren is basically if they MADE A MAN…. OUT OF YOUUUUUUUUU!
I almost made a paragraph about how it wasn’t really creative to make Mulan a guy, but he wasn’t too bad. It just makes side characters more noticeable when they have no allusions like the main characters.
I mean all of team JNPR are gender-bend versions of the characters they're meant to represent though I'm not sure why they didn't go with a different story to do so for Ren. At least his personality has gotten more interesting over seasons and not just cool ninja dude.

Also what I think is a really cute detail is that yang and blake Both have each other’s colors in their eyes yang eyes are purple matching Blakes stockings and Blakes eyes are yellow matching Yang‘s hair I just think that’s a really cute detail that I just noticed while watching this video

Just gonna call out something. You said that Glinda had nothing that noted any inkling of what fairytale character she's inspired by except her name, and had no problem about that. And yet, you give Sun flack for that? Just sayin'

Not gonna lie, Lieutenant Bansaw looks like a slasher. I don't know if it's just me.
For some reason, I feel like they were going for some sort of hot divorced momma vibe with Raven(doesn't work though). Maybe I'm just thinking too much about it, but I'm just not a fan anyway. Maybe if the show had a different artstyle, she would've looked way cooler, but her weirdly round face kinda ruins the impression overall. I also don't get the purpose of stockings. Like, whatever, I guess they needed give her some legwear, but stockings is just a weird choice, they look a bit confusing when you compare them to the rest of her outfit.

Recent anime Like delicious dungeon and Frieren really show how a non sexualized female character can still attract people’s interest in more than “she’s GORGEOUS” which I don’t think is a character trait that should be expressed by clothing
I don’t like looking at a girl in fiction in barely any clothing or having my eyes aimed at their chest/butt/legs rather than their whole character like the golden ratio
What I’m saying is modesty/armor that actually looks like it can protect would be a lot nicer than boob windows and such. Especially when Pyrrha wants metal on her person and Goodwitch should at least have some purpose to look like that if she’s supposed to always be in motion
Yang is also a design.
But I feel it’s like you said with Ruby she’s so easy to remember that a crude drawing can show how unique she is but to me the uniqueness comes from the fact she’s FULLY covered up which is already a rare thing in a lot of cartoons and shows but to add the popping red in areas like her cape, neck, arms, etc. allows the viewer to focus on her movements and facial expressions over her boobs
The men don’t get a freebie either for clothes that don’t work and or seem off
