I just learned Klein’s multiple personalities is a reference to the 7 dwarves. Always thought the eye thing was a weird gimmick. Now it makes sense.
It was pretty poorly conveyed. I actually think it's a negative against him because it's so confusing an distracting to see him randomly change personality and voices. If I didn't watch background stuff online explaining it, I would have never realized he's based off the Seven Dwarves.

With Robyn I like to consider this. She's a character who thinks that *she* is the main character and so gets pissed when she isn't treated like the main character.
What does she expect? The show doesn't even treat the actual main character like a main character

The fact that I was shocked when Whitley was ranked F, when literally almost EVERYONE hates him but he is one of my biggest comfort characters so I forget that he actually has no importance
I hated him in volume 7 but when he somewhat got some development in volume 8 he grew on me

In defenses of Pyrrha, you can have your entire character revolve around someone else and still be a great character. Not all characters need to have independent arcs and development. My own character entirely revolved around Luke in the OT but I was still an amazing and beloved by fans.
And Pyrrha's character isn't even as dependent on Jaune as mine was on Luke. She had independent problems like struggling be seen as normal while still working to achieve her greater destiny of helping people. And while this development intersects with her relationship with Jaune, they are were not dependent on him. Let's not sell Pyrrha short, her entire Maiden plot line was her own thing.

Thank you! I love her mannerisms and combat style (YAS gladiator fights), and her relationship with jaune was adorable. However, I think that her death was a detriment in that I LOVED HER AND SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED NOOOOOOOOOO

Fun fact: they could have had Pyrrha suffered serious injury during the fight and airlifted to Atlas, then to Argus (that’s her home city, right?) to recover with little effect on the story, so that’s my headcannon.

I think Neo was honestly a fine villain with Roman. They complimented each other, she looked cute and had such a cool fighting style. Now Neo does, like, nothing ever that’s interesting and she just kinda does what Cinder says because...
In her defense, she did lose Roman, probably one of the best characters in the entire series. While neither of them are my favorite, loss can do that to someone.

Raven is made worse by the fact that she abandoned her family... with a Semblance that allows her to travel to and from them freely.
That doesn't made Raven worst, XD, that make she better, to be fair, she is obviously a S, but you know, be a bich coward make characters worst. Is for that, producers always create funny and happy characters despites what they actually need. Spoiler, i am been sarcastic.

First, Roman remains the best written villain and one of the best written characters in the series, and I wish he had survived instead of Neo.
Second, Cinder is always so close to being a good villain and an interesting character, but the writers refuse to stop making her suck off Salem, and it genuinely pisses me off cause I really like Cinder’s design and the way she uses the maiden power.
Obviously everyone's gonna have different opinions on all the list, but I think the only one I wanted to "defend" was Saffron Arc. Even though she gets little screen time, her interactions with Jaune and their talks, along with his previous stuff with his family, makes me want to see the Arc Family Reunion. Not, like, in the main show, but maybe OVA style or something. The energy between them was very fun. That said, only, like, a D because she is on screen SO little, and her character arc is basically "isn't it funny that all of Jaune's siblings are girls?", which isn't.... great. Overall, though, good video ^.^ Fun to see where everyone lands.
I think it says a lot about Jaune that all his siblings are girls. You ever had a sister dude? It's different, to say the least.

In regards to jaune, it gives a little more into one of the sisters we’ve been told about and the difference between the more manly sister and the more girly jaune( manly and girly in the sense of how they fit in their roles, such as jaune being good and dancing and ok with wearing a dress for someone he likes and his sister seeming to be the “man” of the house

I can agree with your S tier choices cuz they at least carry the series amidst the bad writing choices. And I even if some of my favs ended up in F tier, I can understand your reasons behind it. Though you forgot the interactions between Cordova and Marie, it was such a joy watching these old ladies one each other up.
I think I'm one of the few people that likes Raven. Don't get be wrong, she is a told asshole and coward, but I like that. She wants to be strong, but can't be for whatever reason. You brought up how she always talks about strength and how she's a hypocrite, I see this as lying to herself. She's telling herself that she's strong and calling everyone else stupid to try and the fact that she's scared. I think she knows what she's doing is wrong, but can't force herself to do anything else.
I think also ties into why she abandoned Yang. She was scared to be a mother because she didn't have a constructive home life as a child and didn't want to the same for Yang.
Or maybe I just have to much faith in the writing.

Carlos Campos yep that’s what makes her a gray character, she is like one of the most interesting characters over her complexity. I usually hate characters who are just black or white like Ruby or Salem, Ruby needs more tragedy or something to make her a more interesting protagonist. Raven is the best! My fav character.
I for one think Raven is a character who had to sacrifice alot and at this point was afraid to sacrifice more. Raven had to take the reigns of the Branwen tribe or else they wouldnt be controled and be wild. For all Raven knew if she didnt control the tribe they would go after her family. So as a way to keep Yang safe she abandoned her and yo stay face to her fellow tribe members she had to act reserved and a bit cocky when she arrived. From the way Raven sees it its Qrow who abandoned the family (the tribe) and Raven was the one that stayed and was loyal to it. To me it seems that Raven isnt the kind of person who would want kids and just ended up with Yang due to the tribe's seemingly lack of preventative options. I mean as a wanted criminal you cant just walk into a cvs looking for plan B.
Long Story Short, Raven sacrificed alot, her brother, her relationship with Ty, her daughter (twice) and her most valued tribesmen (Vernal). I feel like she is only considered a coward is because we dont see the reasons why she sacrificed so much, why she left Yang why she left Ty why she decided to stay with the tribe. Instead its all hinted in dialogue which is a bit of a diservice for her character arch all together
Do it for the Cringe exactly, and that makes Raven a very complex character. We also know that she wasn’t very happy with what happened with the Spring Maiden. For all we know she killed her out of mercy but just killing her wouldn’t have made her gain her powers (the maiden powers are only transfered to those the previous had in her last thoughts and trusted a lot, as cinder implies) and when cinder said it was a mistake the spring maiden trusted her Raven gets angry, it was obvious she was also emotionally attached to her.
That moment when she doesn’t include that Blacksmith in volume 4 that fixed up Jaune’s armour.
Or that other village person from the same episode that talked about the Geist that was causing problems.

She lost all credibility the second she said Ozpin and salems name, she ain't a critic, I think shes bornerline Delusional. Salems got more depth then the whole of team rwby and jnpr put together, I don't think she knows the meaning of the word.

Very good list! I’m so happy to see someone else that really like Roman since I don’t hear that much about him anymore(also agreed on Weiss is best team RWBY girl).
I move Adam up a tier from F to E cause he had a lot of potential (going from what could've been the Faunas equivalent of Magneto, to an angry ex-boyfriend stereotype), I like his original outfit, and I like his fighting style; so much potential, wasted.

I’d put Neptune in F- tier if I could. I hate that we took the team battle that could’ve been used for scarlet and sage to shine, and focused it on Neptune’s stupid phobia that’s only explored in Rwby Chibi
The worst part is that, that comedic phobia, according to the books, comes from a deep childhood trauma from when he almost killed his brother.
@@ProxyDoug The books probably weren't even in conceptualization when they made V3. Plus to be fair a lot of the tournament battles are just filler material to pass the time and show us what's happening, instead of actively advancing the story. In V3 it was mostly the villains who were active while the good guys were reactive
@@maiseree1511 Well, the villains have been the driving force for many volumes. Also, I know that the book hadn't been thought out at the time, but they probably shouldn't have written his backstory like that.
Neptune is my absolute least character in the entire show, but oddly enough, I find him decently likable in RWBY Chibi? When he's less of a one-dimensional womanizer and more of a little nerd.

I totally would have, but I didn't really have a real method of how I ranked them. It's literally just my personal bias, and it becomes a weird venn diagram of personality, design, screen time, voice performance etc.

Scarlet was an F because a nice design isn’t enough to make you like a character, but the girls from ABRN were As because their designs were nice?
As she said, most reasons are ridiculous (and many of them are *really* dumb). Liking characters based on their designs are fine, but the whole Scarlet thing is odd. Reese has at least her weapon other than her design.
Nice video! Quick question, would you consider reviewing some characters based on their appearances in the books? Team SSSN in particular gets some much needed development and Coco and co (lol) definitely ascend as well, but let me know what you think :)

Good comment! I probably should've specified that I was only going off of what we've seen from he characters from the show proper. I didn't take any supplemental material into consideration, that includes the books, manga, chibi and anything else you could think of.
That's also why I didn't include any of the book only characters into my list. On that note however, I have been ready "After the fall" and want to get the next book once I've finished it! Hopefully when team RWBY goes to Vaccuo (at least I hope they do) all that book related character development can get highlighted in the show too!

They probably didn’t exist or Blake was meant to not be with them anymore considering that whole spiel about growing up outside the kingdoms, where if “you didn’t fight you didn’t survive” and considering her whole wannabe edge lord thing they were trying to pull off i honestly just assumed they were dead.

I feel that this with Twiinsiink and Allison would be a great podcast! Maybe not with every minor character, but at least the main ones.
Permit me a Sun defense post because I gotta stick up for my boy. "Doesn't really do much"?
-Reaches the Top 8 of the Vytal Festival
-Rallies with the other students to fight the Grimm invasion of Beacon
-Is the one person to call Ruby out on going off on her own and going into needless danger (something which, after watching the "heroes" video is a definite point in favor)
-Is one of the only two parts of the first volume finale (the other half being Penny's laser) that people remember for his fights
-Consistently is an upbeat and positive character in a show where everyone, even *Nora,* has moments where she falters into shrill whining because of poor writing
-Is largely responsible for all Blake's progress in V4-5, first following her on what he assumes is a suicide mission against the White Fang to keep her safe, then sticks through her repeated abuse to drag her off her ass and get back into the plot, including implicitly forcing her to return to the cast and get RWBY back together in full.
In summation, Sun is a bright spot of hope in a series that has stumbled on hard times and lives rent free as a memoir of happier times in RWBY, when the show wasn't petty, violent, ableist murderdrama. Sun will always be an S in *my* heart at least, because whenever he's on screen... I know everything's gonna turn out alright.
Damn shame he's not gonna be on screen anymore since you-know-what.
I love torchwick on top but it hurts seeing character that had 10 seconds of screen time in A while Arkos is in C together

Pietro Polendina should be put a bit higher thanks to more recent episodes and the fact that his voice acting is probably the most on-point out of all the main cast. I agree with where you put Qrow but for a slightly different reason, that being the fact that his character isn't all there during some of the later seasons. (I liked it more when he was making the very blunt and sarcastic jokes, it would have been amazing if Qrow just didn't take anything seriously when he's captured by Ironwood's goons, because not only would have it made sense, it would've also been a fun interrogation scene, where he manages to tick off Ironwood even more yet hide the fact that he's hurt.
I'd want to put Mercury higher I like his weapon being gun kicks since it's a different take on an established weapon(Yang's gauntlets) Also I think his personality s a little bit annoying but after the scene in volume six where him and Emerald argue I think it adds depth to his character especially the part about losing his semblance the series is becoming more semblance heavy every volume so having at least one or two characters without them is a good thing at least to me.
I also think Mercury deserves to be higher. His personality is that he's casual, sarcastic, and callous. He really don't care about other people but he enjoys himself. You shouldn't like these traits from a moral standpoint but he's still a very solid character.
Yea I feel like mercury gets too much hate because of the side he's on and his personality towards certain characters tbh.
I loved the scene where he's kinda fighting emerald and the whole thing is basically a "no u" moment that has Mercury point out a flaw in Emerald. That scene alone not only moves him to a higher tier for me, but also ends up making me like him more than emerald.
Tbh I hope Mercury and Emerald gets their chance to appear as one of the main antagonists in the upcoming Volume 8 or later volumes. If they were giving them chances to appear more often with a driving force as well as getting new designs, I will change my own ranks for them if it were to happen. My current ranks for Mercury is C, because his legs weapon are the ones I dig the most as I like kickboxing type of fighters. Emerald is a C for me; cool semblance and weapons, but she's too attached to Cinder and has a moody personality).
I feel like both should be given more screen time and more character development and made the decision themselves to help Salem with her goals despite not having much screen time in volumes (4 to 6) they were in. I know they are Cinder's disciples and are still part of Cinder's Faction so they only do what Cinder says; However, being left in the dark while Cinder is out there doing her own thing will just make the two characters even more redundant to leave in the set of cast and pointless in terms of representing themselves as one of the antagonists.
If there's an alternate route to increase their character development, only thing I can think of is a redemption arc. If they still fear Salem or their master Cinder is too busy trying to collect the maidens powers, then why stick around and learn more about life than just being cold-blooded killers serving Cinder. If the redemption arc were to work out their character development writing-wise, then I will change my ranks for them to a little more higher (For me, Mercury would be B and Emerald would be A as we).
These are my thoughts and I hope the writers take note of that

mercury has one of the best fighting styles in the entire show, has arguably two disabilities because not having a semblance is a huge thing in the verse and he still absolutely kicked ass, murdered his abusive father and is a villain just because literally what in the hell else was he going to do he was literally raised to be a killer

It makes me so sad that everyone seems to hate yang so much. She is and she always has been my favorite, I hope future volumes will redeem her

I agree. Love Yang. I feel like not dealing with the trauma after beacon was a big issue for her fall in popularity. I feel like if she expresses those emotions and talks it through it would help. It could even reveal why she’s been acting the way she has been.
I agree with you, however, I think that the public perception of Yang rings true to her character. Yang is that bodacious big sister that everyone overlooks because Ruby is so cute and special. Even when something happens to her, the only one who can face her and say 'I love you' is Ruby. Yet she got back on her feet, forgave her friends shortcomings, and joined in for the big win. If you ever had a teammate like that (see 'Gronk') you would understand what makes her so lovable (sans 'Bumblebee, which is non-canon).
The sad thing is I want to like Yang. She was my favorite in the first three volumes, and I could even understand the ideas behind what was going on with her in the next few volumes.
Problem was the execution of those ideas. What should be Yang selflessly putting aside her own desires for her family (telling Raven she's not there for her and just needs her to find Ruby) comes across as abandoning a huge character arc. What should be a nice moment of ship tease with her and Blake (Going to her side when escaping the Apathy) makes her come across as apathetic to Ruby and Weiss. And a dropped plot beat that necessitated the journey to Atlas (why Yang didn't tell them her mother was the Spring Maiden) comes across as Yang being hypocritical, especially when she distrusts Ozpin for keeping secrets.
And again, these are not Yang's fault; it's simple writing and animating mistakes that build up over time.
But, the writers have shown that they can hear our complaints, and Volume 6 does give me hope that they are trying to fix it. So, I share your hope that the future volumes will redeem her. And I look forward to the day that our favorite Sunny Little Dragon will get the chance to spread her wings and be awesome again.

I dont know about others but i know adam could have been one of the best characters in the show, i feel like he was underdeveloped and his development could have shown us how humans treat fonists
I'm about to throw some hands lmao I disagree with so many of these but, hey, that's to be expected from such a subjective topic
I'm sorry, I could let everything else slide until you got to Winter. specifically, I don't even care where her ranking is, but the hair up vs. hair down debate sucks because it shouldn't BE a debate. the reason why Winter with her hair down is so good is because we normally see her only with her hair up. and Winter with her hair down is really fucking beautiful... seeing her kind of roughed up and unkempt after she's kept everything so perfectly put together this whole time... that's what it's about.
but yeah, what letter she's at as a character doesn't even matter to me, it's opinion based, to each their own.
but "hair up vs. hair down" is out. "hair down is good because hair is usually up" is in.
Especially when characters like Harriet, who's literally just a whiny f*ck girl that's fast and Elm who's just 'rawwrr, me strong' personified are right next to her.

Overall I pretty much agree. I would switch up some characters personally, but overall, it’s pretty on point with me.

Up until he actually had his backstory explained Hazel was hands down my favorite bad guy. His powerful presence, calm demeanor, and seeming distaste for bloodshed made me think the mystery behind his motivations for working with Salem was going to be super cool and interesting... and then RT pulled a Darling in the FranXX on us. T.T
Honestly, I like Raven's character because of how much I actively dislike her character, let me explain. For me she falls into the category of someone that I utterly can't stand, but I could see being a real person. She's so stupidly self-aggrandizing and sure of her own beliefs that I just want to punch her in her stupid face every time I see her, but that's why I think she is still a well designed character because (at least IMHO) that was the intention in her design.

Can we talk about how hot Sage is tho? Not that I like his personality or anything but that dark skin and yellow eyes and dark smexy green hair is so hot. I agree Yang lost most of her charm after volume 3 I used to like her character until volume 6 when she started to become a hypocrite and a instigator and is the reason why the teams get into more trouble than they should

The way I'd rank it, I'd have most of the characters in the same rank as you, but with a few differences, such as:
Salem: C, because she's starting to get very intimidating, especially in comparison to some of the other villains.
Adam Taurus: D, because for the first three volumes, he had a lot of depth to him. Only for that depth to turn into wasted potential up until his death.
Raven Branwen: D, because, despite all of her shortcomings, she did one thing that the rest of the main cast didn't do, and that's tell the truth. So, I'm giving her credit for that. Does it fully redeem her? No.
I disagree with a lot of this list. Like a lot. The mix of show importance and entertainment value should be more important than whose cute or not.
I use "cute" to describe more than just someone's appearance. For example, I would say Penny has a "cute personality".
However, a characters design also plays a role into how much I like that character, especially with the really minor ones who don't really have much else character or personality. (Team NDGO for example.)
Oh I totally understand for the minor characters. There were moments where it seemed the character design was the largest motivation for some characters ranking. Which is totally fine if that’s the spectrum you were rating but since you didn’t really specify other than it was you own opinion that’s totally fine. I think you could really do two videos on RWBY. One that is strictly character design, the other is the character itself, entertainment, impact, personality etc.
i disagree with it too. i think the reasons that (specifically ruby and blake) she uses are so dumb lmao. everyone in the main cast should be in S tier because they wouldn’t be the main cast if they weren’t interesting. i get its your opinion my guy, but like put more reasoning behind something than just, “she’s annoying, she’s mean.” ruby is supposed to have all those attributes because she’s the second youngest and has that innocent, child outlook on the world. in my opinion, all four members of team rwby have had some of the most drastic character growth.

I mean, obviously you can find the main cast super interesting and all S tier but I think "story importance" shouldn't really matter in a character tier list because it's not that. This is a subjective list. If it was "matter of importance" it wouldn't be subjective, it would be fact. Ozpin, Salem, Team RWBY and JNPR and late series Qrow and vol 7 Ironwood would be on everyone's S tier, and all the minor characters would be on everyone's F tier. That would be pretty a boring list
Everyone finds different character designs, personalities and stories interesting or boring. She thinks Mercury, his weapon and his design are boring, i disagree on all accounts. You may think Ruby's personality and current design is interesting, and that she's grown significantly as a character- i disagree and that's fine.
tami f i was talking about blake when i said mean and annoying. or at least that’s what i meant. and i didn’t mean by their story importance that they deserve to be S tier. in my opinion, they deserve to be S tier because off the growth and passion they have shown over the years. blake is more than annoying and mean. ruby is more than annoying and boring. people see what’s on the surface and judge their entire character arc based on one thing in their personality trait. we’ve seen blake evolve from being the closed off coward that runs from her problems. we’ve seen ruby evolve from the innocent little kid that always wants to see the good. she’s seen the bad and has experienced so much death that her morals have switched, become more than just that “little sister” character she once portrayed. you can disagree with me all you want, i don’t really care. i just don’t understand how people can’t see the depth in yang, blake, ruby, jaun and other characters like them.

I’m scared to watch volume 4 now because of what you said about Yang, who is currently my favorite character.
I wonder if she would re rate Henry Marigold considering the next season. I love that they took a throw away character who I would agree at this point was an F, gave them a character arc off screen, reintroduced them, and only connected them back after we get attached. It really shows that you never know what struggles the people around you are going through, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show do that before, certainly not as effectively.
Okay I underestimated when this was made, but I still think you need to devote and make Henry and May Marigold a single score since they are the same person.
Um. NO. they are not. Henry is May's cousin. She outright explains it to us in volume 8.

I might be reading too much into it but that was my understanding

Damn that’s disappointing I really liked my theory of subtly hinting that everyone (even assholes) have their own story beyond what is immediately presented. Never mind though, I definitely agree with the different grades in light of this. Thanks for the heads up
