  • Marketed as “the one for all” the new iGS630 is iGPSPORT’s new flagship cycling computer. The iGS630 was developed to be an easy to use cycling computer to satisfy beginner to expert cyclists and boasts a variety of features such as a color screen, full navigation and smart trainer connectivity. In terms of specifications, the iGS630 retails for $219.99 and has a 2.8” color LCD screen with 240×400 pixel resolution. As with some Wahoo computers, the iGS630 is a non-touch screen design that utilizes six buttons to navigate the interface. An integrated USB Type-C rechargeable battery allows the iGS630 to be used for up to 35 hours. The iGS630 also has an industry standard Garmin quarter turn style mount built directly into the base.
    Visually, the iGS630 has a standard rectangular design with a laminated glass screen and minimal bezels. The bottom edges are beveled to give the computer a thinner appearance (16.5mm) and help disguise the integrated lithium ion battery. Aside from the large iGPSPORT logo printed on the front of the computer, it would be easy to confuse the GPS for a Garmin or Wahoo cycling computer. The 2.8” screen is well sized and has a glossy glass screen that looks similar to the iGS320 but utilizes a color display. Interestingly, the iGS630 is a non-touch screen design and instead uses a six button setup to operate. We’re not sure if iGPSPORT chose this approach to reduce costs or to simplify the user interface and avoid the issues touch screens have with water or touch sensitivity.
    The iGS630 also has several modern features that are great to see at this budget price point including an ambient light sensor similar to the Bryton S500 and S800, and a USB-C charging port. A simple rubber cover protects the USB-C port from rain or moisture and is located below the Garmin quarter turn mount on the base. The iGS630’s main screen has six main options with three available themes to change the appearance. Two of the themes look similar to a Microsoft Windows tile design while the third theme is a futuristic scrolling style that is more similar to a smart watch interface. The computer also supports up to eight user profiles, four are loaded by default, which can be renamed via the app...

    Good, fair review; thanks. I've just bought one of these. Not sure why you brushed over battery life and didn't include it in your summary 'Pros' - at a claimed 35hrs I think that's outstanding. Downsides for me so far are the lack of re-routing (I'd have thought this was a 101 essential on a GPS device) and the fact that they don't supply a proper mount - those rubber O rings are going to fail for sure. Thanks again, your guide is much appreciated.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před rokem +1

      Glad it has been working out for you. Definitely look into buying an out-front mount as the iGS630 uses a standard Garmin style mount. It puts the computer right in front of your stem and you don't have to deal with annoying rubber o-rings..

    • @TheSweetCyclists

      Great question. The iGS630 we have has 5 zoom scales: 164ft / 328 ft / 0.1 mi / 0.2 mi / 0.5 mi. Unlike other computers, the zoom level seems to persist so it doesn't reset back when you switch pages.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před 9 měsíci

      We've actually reviewed the newer iGPSPORT BSC200 and BSC300 and it seems like the navigation issues (overlapping routes / false turns on windy roads) issue is still present so I don't think they've been addressed. Those issues are more annoyances though, you can still use the navigation to explore new routes or do long bike rides.

      iGPSPORT has had some major updates to the software since this review was published which address some of the issues. I haven't had a chance to use the latest but the release logs highlight improved navigation, start ride reminder, save ride page and separating record lap to a double click. All these changes should make it easier to use but I don't think the app will ever be as good as Garmin or even Bryton equivalents.

      Touch only GPS are a bad idea, the only place where touch is completely useful is navigation, and it becomes completely useless on rainy days as well, God forbid doing MTB and navigating with mud in your display.
      I sold the Garmin Edge 830 exactly because of this, doing MTB auto pause was constantly triggering in recurrent portions of my rides, if you set it up manual pause you have to tap on back every time you pause as soon as you pause or there will be a huge end activity in the center of your screen that requires no confirmation to end the activity that can easily (and did) trigger with a drop of water, sweat, mud, or even a missed touch of the display while using it. Blocking the display solves this issue, and now you cannot dismiss your notifications and other popups as the tap action is locked 😂 and you have to unlock the display to do so if you are looking at the map and these windows come up, as there is no physical back button 😅which is totally annoying if it's raining.
      Running the Wahoo ELEMNT ROAM v2 now, it is refreshing how the computer doesn't get in your way while you're using it 😅I agree I could do the same with the Garmin 840, and that's because now it has full button setup, so you can lock the display and use the buttons if you want, which is what I'd expect, but there is a lot of people like me that don't really need a touch display, and if the bike computer is well setup, to be honest is not really that much necessary.

      Touch screens are horrible, I mean how often do you need to change settings anyway lol.

      Id rather have good buttons than a bad touchscreen, which is what you get in even very expensive bike computer. I'd rather not fiddle with an inconsistent UI with no feedback while doing 40kph down a mountain. Not to mention the fact that touch simply doesnt work in the rain.

      Feh! I have a Garmin 810 touch (resistance) screen [and 800 before that] and it worked great. Upgrade to Garmin 830 touch (capacitance) screen. My sweat drops change screens on me, or reprograms which data is shown. When the screen is at all wet from rain or sweat - Then it ignores all of my swipes and touches. Biggest POS Garmin has ever made (well, really that was the 820). I am so sick of this 830 I'm about to toss it in the trash can. GIVE ME SOME BUTTONS! so the damned device will take my inputs.

    It needs touch screen! Having to clip so many buttons just to do one thing is a nightmare lol!

      Many of the things he did on the device only is mainly because of lack of knowledge on how the application works. You can change the layout and drag and drop fields from the application itself. I had an iGS620 (the previous generation) and you could do it right away.
      That being said, the Garmin Edge 540 still exists, lol 🤷‍♂

      The iGS630 has most of the features of the Garmin 530 except for the touch screen. If they both were the same price, I would buy the Garmin as it has a more intuitive UI and displays but that's not the case. Right now the iGS630 is $180 on Amazon compared to $299 for the Garmin. If your budget constrained the $120 saving is worth it and can cover the cost of sensors / mounts.

    I got this thing I hated it, it is the most unintuitive gadget I have ever purchased in my life, I couldn't get it to set up to use the navigation at all.

    really upset to purchase the device. Cannot even download rides from Komoot or other programs. this is for beginner riders not long distance

    Lost this dumb-phone user when you got to "download the app", a crippled incomplete device yet again, unlike when you buy a GPS for a car.
    So if I've got to buy a phone that'll do everything I want in order to make this to do the same things, what's the damned point?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  Před rokem +1

      A dedicated GPS computer (even one that requires syncing to a phone app to transfer data or setup routes) is worth using over a phone as they have better battery life, have a more compact form factors and are more affordable. You don't need to maintain a cell phone app connection with the computer unless you want notifications or to upload routes and download data to sync with Strava or other third-party apps to share.

      @@TheSweetCyclists You missed the point with affordability, there's absolutely nothing "more affordable" about having to buy BOTH a phone and GPS unit, the allegedly dedicated GPS is a paperweight if I buy just that. My old flip-phone can't run its app. So I have to buy a phone first, at which point I'd have an adequate navigation device and NO REMAINING BUDGET for a GPS unit anyway.
      I've no interest in Strava, just getting navigation around the city without fighting a paper map.
