There is an ISSUE - BMW M2 G87 mod not as expected

  • There seems to be an issue with the last mod I did. The KW height adjustable springs didn't settle as much as I had hoped. I expected it to drop a lot more than it did.
    In this video, I go over my thoughts on this situation and how to get past this.

    The M2 looks great as is with the spacers and HAS. I wouldn’t go any lower on a daily driven car. I’ve never really cared for the driving dynamics of a lowered car. Not to mention, the decreased clearance for parking curbs and steep driveway ingress/egress.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem +1

      This is not a daily for sure. Having the flexibility to slam it would be nice 😃
      The vision for the M2 is to be a project car and be taken out on weekends for cars and coffee etc. The RS5 is a daily and it’s lower than the M2 right now 😂

    Spacers will close that gap significantly moving the tread closer to the fender, personally I think that height looks perfect!

    • @thedevthing

      Yeah I might keep it as is. Once I install the new wheels, I will have a better feel for what to do next 😃

    With spacers the stone chips on the sides should increase significantly. I personally liked the height beforehand, but I'm also not the type of person who likes very low cars.

    Prabhul - with all of your experience w/ cars and friends like Lukas I’m surprised by some of the stuff you’re saying in the video. Springs and HAS kit will not settle 1” or even 1/2”. That’s an insane amt of settling. I’ve never had springs settle more than 1/8” or maybe 1/4”. Over years they may settle a bit more but not nearly as much as you want. Also, if you want to slam your car, springs or HAS kit is not the way to go. You are basically looking to lower your car a good 2” from stock. That means you are taking away most of your suspension travel. If KW makes shorter springs for you you will be riding on your bumpstops. To really slam your car you should get full coil overs w/ matched and shortened dampers so that you can preserve some suspension travel or just get airbags already. However don’t expect the car to track well w/ bags. Heck, you can’t expect the car to track very well lowered 2” either as you need suspension travel for track and daily driving. In any case, I enjoy watching your videos and looking forward to seeing how you continue to mod your M2.

      I think I misspoke on the 1’’ settle. It’s what I wished it would drop to 😂
      But I am looking a coils now. Lukasz has been saying coils from day 1. But I was trying to do it on the cheap 😃
      Lesson learned 😂

      Try cobra springs, they drop 30mm+

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem +2

      Yeah I think I will do that soon. They are the lowest so far. There is also the HR VFT kit which also drops significantly. But I have not seen any G87 M2 with HR kit.
      The guys at R44 Performance has done the cobra springs and they look really slammed.

    The kit wasn't designed to slam the car🤔 and i really don't see an issue exceptthat you could go 20 inch wheel all around. Honestly, Psi has been through this setup, so i don't understand what more were you expecting🤔

    Yeah, saw its not low enough as well with the HAS, I will get the V3 directly to make it proper. Also, if you plan on tracking, anyway you'd need a V4 minimum.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před 11 měsíci

      V3 didn’t seem to drop much more from the specs. V4 would definitely get low enough and be compliant. V4 is a lot of $$$$ maybe next year 😃

  • @js002003
    @js002003 Před rokem +2

    it still looks pretty solid right now and I feel if you lowered it even more it would compromise the driving dynamics too much... when I get mine in a 2 months, I plan on doing kw lowered to about your height with some spacers and maybe putting on some 295s in the back with cast wheels. also an ECU tune with mid and downpipes.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem

      Nice, would be great to see what you do with your M2.

    Are your height adjustable springs all the way down?

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem +1

      Yeah the spring all the way down. When I reverse and turn the wheel all the way I hear it rubbing the fender or it’s touching something.

    @juangouveia8098 Před rokem +1

    not sure on the m2, but on the e9x platform there are lowered suspension top hats for the front, that lower 1 or 1,5 cm. bmw top mounts have been the same for various models over the years. maybe they will work on this? as for the rear, you could remove the adjustable "colar" would lower it a bit more

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem +1

      I am not very good with the tech stuff. I am likely going to work with Sean and Lukasz to get the car where I want it to be. So I might pull the trigger on some coilovers

  • @arymonem
    @arymonem Před rokem +3

    I personally think that setup looks great, and has a more realistic and livable ride quality. I’m afraid that a full coil overs will be too bumpy for daily driving. Btw, how is the ride quality compared to stock?

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Před rokem +1

      Ride quality is really awesome with the KW. It eats up the bumps really nicely. HR ones on my RS5 is very harsh if not in comfort.
      The M2 on KW is great in all modes.

    • @thedevthing
