Something I'd like to see is having your class/build have an impact in non-combat scenes. I think the only instance of this was in the Omega DLC mission, where and Engineer Shepard could get a better outcome in one certain scene. What if there was a scene where a bad guy was about to flee, and a player character who specialized in sniper rifles could shoot them in the leg to stop them, while other builds wouldn't have that option? Or a situation like in the Collector base, when the biotic specialist has to create a shield, what if a biotics-focused player character could take on that role themselves? I just think it would be neat if there were non-gameplay reasons to make your build a certain way.

Yes. I would like that too. Even as DAI did it. While you explore some parts of the environment can be modified by a mage, others by a warrior, etc. I like to play as an adept and it always annoys me when the Asari do their levitating thing and you just crash down like an idiot. Please I hope they spare us the biotic winning; Kaidan was enough, there was no need to have it from Cora. And if I pick a biotic background, there is no need to explain what it is, I am supposed to know. I understand it is for new players but still. Perhaps, at the beginning of the game, you could have an option like "New Recruit" that will trigger some more background dialogues/tutorials and a "Veteran" option that will spare you that.

2 things I would like are:
    1. More thought out Squad mate integration, many squad mates got left behind in sequels due to story possibilities/complexities (for example all squad members that were introduced in ME2 were not recruit-able in ME3 and had very minimal interactions) so hopefully they will plan ahead so squad members don't get short changed in content.
    2. Class/Ability interrupts: Such as the Engineer class interrupts you get in the Omega and Citadel DLC it would be nice to have more varied interrupt moments for specific classes, or if the system is like Andromeda then an ability interrupt if you have it equipped to offer more variety in dialogue or decision making.

Yes, yes and yes. Being able to get a prompt when you are a Vanguard ( Shepard is a Vanguard in my headcanon) or something only a Engineer can do, hell yes. Plus Paragon/ Renegade points to that. Squad should be like in ME2, play a very big role. Variety should be huge, that is what we want. Banter, a huge amount of banter as well. Like, very much. More than Dragon Age. Man, I am looking forward to this, as long as I don´t die before it comes out :p

I totally agree with your second want in the next game, I played as an Adept and didn't expect much to happen but at least in ME1 you got a mission for your background. I only got some dialogue with Traynor talking about if Shephard was younger they would've gone to Grissom academy, definitely wanted just a little more in game recognition that your class isn't just for combat per say.

Old squadmates could be treated as contacts in later games, or subordinate team leaders.
Imagine if Shepard could command other squads from the Normandy, in ME3, said squads led by Grunt or Miranda, with frequent video conferences to discuss what your former squadmates were up against? Including chances for them to fight (and often lose to) Kai Leng before it's Shepard's turn? How much cooler would it be if you heard from Grunt that Cerberus had an assassin that moved like Thane?

The thing about the choices is so essential. You can tell in recent years Bioware have been trying to dial back choice and its importance within their games by having more illusory choices that don;t effect outcomes too severely. But its such a key part of mass effect that without choices sculpting the story at least semi-directly it will be underwhelming, regardless of what else the game may do right,

they no longer know how to do it and make it have weight....think man they lost all the big talent how can they ever top the older games?? i warn everyone expect Andromeda/Anthem all over again, any idiot can remaster a trilogy and look good doing it, I'm not saying there's zero skill at Bioware there is, it's just the people who made what we loved for so long long since left the studio and it left a deficiency in their ability
think about it, pandemic games was sabotaged by EA for 2 games, delivered mercenaries 2 utter trash and Saboteur that launched as the studio closed and the game never sold cus of it cus the kiss of death for any game is to close the studio as it releases.....
that studio was capable of better but were forced into making trash, Bioware is seen as this golden goose but they long since laid their last golden egg
think.....jade empire sold okay but not KOTOR levels, that MDK2 also didn't sell for shit, the sonic RPG they made sold for shit was was lambasted, DA2 was rushed and poorly thought out but coulda been good had maybe the art style been a gradual shift from DAO and not the drastic change but also failed due to the stupidity of some of the writing, ME2 might have been a big hit with shooter idiots but to RPG players it kinda sucked..or sucked outright and the fact nobody can figure out a way out of ME3 means the ending they insist was artistic is a shit ass terrible ending, i still have not changed my opinion of it even in legendary
Andromeda failed in every way that mattered and Anthem had all the potential and fell short in so many ways....and the lore for the game sucks cus it's just nonsense
the biggest hits for Bioware since and including KOTOR was DAO, DAI and the ME trilogy even if it ended in double failure
all that fail and so little success, we need to reassess how we see things and accept the truth

One thing I'd like, is follow up on the dark matter storyline, we were introduced to with Haestrom in ME2. We know the Quarians we following up several stars 'aging early' due to dark matter, and that story arc just went nowhere. I'd like to see it continued.

  • @adamhradil7923

What I want them to do is return to ME1 when it comes to mission and world structure. The combination of shooting sections, driving sections and multiple hub zones with characters and quests in almost every main story mission created great balance. ME2&3 were just corridor shooters and ME:A was generic mediocre ubisoft like open world. ME1 got this balance right and I hope they return to it.
Another thing I would like is all squadmates having a role in all missions, even if they wouldn't be present in our squad, I want them to have a mission of their own, being in contact by radio etc. It always felt very weird that most of your team just sits in your ship for no reason.

I def agree about the Andromeda combat, it was so fun and free-flowing, and the class system was very intuitive, would def wanna see that return. I think Shepard shouldn't come back. I don't think when they made the destroy ending easter egg where Shepard breaths that they intended it to be serious. They shouldn't make an ending that was clearly just an easter egg the canon one. Plus no matter what choice you made as Shepard, they have a satisfying character arc with a sensible conclusion. As interesting as it would be for Shepard to live, it would mess up their legacy and arc, and retroactively ruin ME3's ending (which wasn't good to begin with, but still).

Have Sheppard as an admiral giving orders and guidance, Vakarian leading him to his protege, having Grunt as a squad member as a grizzled veteran, Liara as the voice of reason and wealth of knowledge, and some new squad mates, maybe a hanar, geth and vorcha who is trying to prove that despite their short life span they can be so much more than they are perceived. I also think that one of the new antagonists should be the yahg, while also dealing with a group seeking to continue Cerberus's goals of human dominance. I'd also like to see the outcome of the ME3 issues: (ie: genophage cure, geth/quarian war and aftermath of the reaper war). I agree with the gameplay though, ME:A has awesome gameplay.

I think they should have a clean break with the OT. Only cameos and small roles for past characters. They'd have to pick resolutions to all of the conflicts in 3 which has too many pitfalls to count for any writer, let alone modern Bioware to handle well (what if you killed Wrex?!). I liked Andromeda's more frenetic playstyle but I didn't care for how the mix/match power builds were implemented. Not being able to control squadmates also felt bad and puzzling as that was a hallmark of the series. There were a few positives from Andromeda but that's another story. I mostly agree except for the antagonist and Shep. I definitely want Shep back for one more run.
For the antagonist I REALLY don't want the Reapers... my sorta off the wall idea would be for the "Mysterious Benefactor" to the be antagonist. It'd be a great way to set the game shortly after ME3, bring back Shep, and still connect the game to Andromeda. The Mysterious Benefactor could be the leader of the Initiative that was left behind after the Arks were sent off to Andromeda. To build all of those ships and execute that missions would've taken hundreds of thousands of people and trillions of units so surely there'd be a large number left back in the Milky Way. They could've gone into hiding when the Reapers invaded and in the post-Reaper War universe proclaim themselves as a savior.
The dark side of this could be the Initiative trying to fill a power vacuum left by the battered Citadel Council species and the infighting among those species due to the cured Krogan, decimated Turians, dishonest Asari, and humans seeking more power with the Citadel being in the Sol system literally connected to Earth. I's the best way I've thought of playing to the nostalgia, not completely ignoring Andromeda, and setting up a new powerful antagonist that isn't the Reapers.

For the enemy in a new Mass Effect game, I think it would be really interesting to see a civil war take place. Maybe the Krogan find out that the cure never happened and go on the war path, or if you did cure them, they start expanding like they did before the Krogan Rebellion. You could throw all sorts of drama in as after-effects from the Reaper invasion, with Shepard having to try to truly unify the galaxy, which only really occurred because the Reapers were an existential threat and not because their problems went away

Then he/she would be like a master for us and maybe in some specfic moment play with them again and the old squad like the good old times, that would be absolutely epic, at least for me.

It would be nice for your character to receive special missions from him and develop a special bond with him like a mentor or something. He can still be around without having to reprise his previous role. It would also be fun if he could join your character in a mission or two.
I would also like to see a Krogan war due to overpopulation. It would be great to help Wrex and Grunt get things under control or make things worse for either one or both based on your decisions.

Now with the reapers gone, they come back. Shepard needs to come back to once again rally forces from the ashes to defeat them. Shepard was meat and tubes when they found Shep the last time. On the matter of meaningful choices we'll never know the truth about Andromeda. The game won't get a sequel so it's a bit of an incomplete judgment to say that it is lacking meaningful choices while comparing to the original trilogy where many of them had a bigger impact in the next games than in the specific game you made them in the first place.
To me the only real issues holding back Andromeda, aside from its chaotic development (all the bugs at launch, the "one face fits all" Asari etc.), are 1/Ryder and 2/the game's inability to present itself in a better light.
1/Ryder is way too tame in most of his/her reactions, how are we supposed to feel involved if the main character isn't taking things at heart? It also affects most companions' reactions who could benefit from stronger stances, they and Ryder don't step onto each others' boundaries enough.
2/ the game sort of fails to be enthusiastic about itself and what it is telling. For instance there are many interesting quests and sub-quests that would have deserved a better treatment, like a simple cutscene to highlight their importance or at least show a reaction from its protagonists. Too many of them end with a single comment from Ryder or SAM. Even if the quest is well written it will fall flat if the presentation is lacking.
All in all I really liked the game (not playing it until 2 years after launch certainly helped) and I feel that it is only let down by a direction (in the dramatic sense) and a main character that fails to highlight and up the stakes when it counts. It could have been a classic otherwise.

I would love a Dragon Age Keep version for Mass Effect. Like you can say what your Shepard did during the trilogy and maybe there will be mentions of it. Liara is confirmed to be in the new series so maybe a romanced Liara could say different things than a non-romanced Liara. Maybe our previous choices can really impact the new series such as whether or not the Geth or Quarians survived or if they agreed to work together. Will the Krogan be more violent in the new series if Wrex and Bakara (Eve) died? What about the Genophage? Etc.
I don't want Shepard to be back. I rather they be put to rest and a new protagonist could give us role play options since Shepard is so established already.

Personally I think it would be cool for them to revisit the background mechanics that were present in ME1. Except instead of spacer, colonist, earthborn + sole survivor, ruthless, and war hero; it could go something like; mercenary, pirate, smuggler + wealthy, lucky, and resilient (or something like that). Then keep all the 6 classes but allow the playable character to be human, batarian, asari, or turian. Then integrate the profile and species into the decision tree (so, more than just one unique mission and a couple of dialogue scenes). Also make it very consequential, like maybe the batarian character isn't as trusted by the NPCs so certain actions/decisions are harder than they are for the other species. I don't know just trying to think of a way to make each playthrough unique. Mass Effect's greatness was its replayability and Andromeda lost that.

  • @Siansonea
    @Siansonea Před 2 lety +12

I think the protagonist of the next game should be Liara, or a customizable character who could be human, asari, krogan, or turian. Someone who is working with Liara as her agent.
I think the natural choice for the new antagonist is Leviathan. This is a race of creatures who are known to possess the ability of indoctrination, who were responsible for creating the Reapers in the first place, who are in theory still very much alive. A cool twist would be if Leviathan was seeking to create a version of Shepard, to more fully understand how the Reapers were defeated, and through that process we come to learn that OG Shepard (and the Citadel DLC clone) was in fact a human-AI hybrid (to retcon the ridiculousness of the Lazarus Project). It could then come out through the game that the Reapers were originally created to combat an existential threat to the galaxy that the Leviathan race barely defeated, a threat that has become a problem once again in the absence of the Reapers. The Law Of Unintended Consequences, and all that. Yes, Shepard and the crew of the Normandy saved the galaxy from the Reapers, but that only sets the stage for an even older threat to reassert itself. Could be really cool.

    • @Siansonea
      @Siansonea Před 2 lety +5

Building upon this idea, Liara could be trying to cope with her grief over Shepard's death, and through her constant rehashing of her time with Shepard, discovers some nagging doubts and inconsistencies about Shepard's life. Liara could discover, for instance, that indoctrinated agents of Leviathan had been active in every cycle of extinction, and that they had placed indoctrinated agents near Shepard at key points in their life. Donnel Udina is a natural choice for an indoctrinated agent of Leviathan, as are people like Shiala and even Karen Chakwas. The manipulation of events could go back to Shepard's backstory, and Liara could revisit Mindoir/Earth and Akuze/Elysium/Torfan to pick up clues about Shepard's past. Here, Liara could discover that Leviathan used Shepard (and others) as a lab rat, to create a being that could not be subjected to indoctrination. To do that, however, they had to make the character a hybrid, a prototype of the Synthesis model the Catalyst suggested. That was why Shepard's presence in the Crucible created that 'new option' for the Catalyst-they were literally a walking talking software patch. Liara could then discover that Shepard's 'code' is still out there, and under the right conditions, could be given new life in a new body. This could even be something that is revealed piecemeal in the game, where the custom new protagonist, under Liara's guidance, learns that they are the 'new Shepard' that she created, possibly with Leviathan's help, to deal with the new threat to the galaxy that Leviathan still seeks to defeat.

I would like our previous choices in the trilogy to be known throughout the game like the interactive comic and Liara telling us stories of our boy/girl but from her point of view. Maybe her opinion of how Shepard left her if we romanced her in ME1 or how proud she was of Shepard hooking up with Tali or Garrus if we were single in 1. Or how she thought Shepard felt when he died or something. Or maybe Wrex's opinion of us and see a hall of fame for our crew that most likely died of age centuries ago, like a recording saying who were our closest allies or who died in our name or who we romanced. Y'know, make it our new journey in a world we made. And yes, a new villain would be fun plus Andromeda's gameplay. When it comes to Shepard I wouldn't mind him surviving his choice at the end of ME3, BUT have the game take place some time in the future maybe a decade or 2 or more with several possilities thereafter:
    1. Have them take a page from the Yakuza series where a new protagonist is introduced that people will automatically want to latch onto while the previous protagonist (in this case Shepherd) is relegated to the sidelines implied to be on his own mission and doing his own thing.
    2. Or have a new protagonist and just have this new potential trilogy have Shepherd take the role of Captain Anderson in the story.
    3. Pull a Star Trek: The Next Generation and it's now 50 years in the future and sure your favorite original characters are now significantly older but they're still alive (except maybe Zaeed because he was already old) and basically treated as war heroes and legends and the story completely takes place in a new setting, new time, with new characters. The writers can even take advantage of this by having a few jokes involving the renegade/paragon choices Shepherd could've made by having characters embellish Shepherd's adventures (I heard he blew up so-and-so! Oh yeah? Well I heard he pushed some guy off a 50 story window!)
Personally I'd prefer 1 or at least a hybrid of 1 and 2, have it be a new trilogy and have it culminate with the possibility where you could play as either character with both being duo-protagonists.
For antagonists, I wouldn't have anybody other than the Leviathan race be the antagonists. It can open up the game to new possibilities where you maybe you can't tell who's been brainwashed by them or not and possibly bringing in a horror aspect to the game.

Hard classes mean you have more thought put into the gameplay of each one, and being able to mix and match everything is boring and for people who hate making decisions. Your class is a decision you make. It's strengths and weaknesses are ones you have to commit to. That's just better gameplay. This weird "I wanna do everything because I'm afraid of consequences" just makes RPGs less fun to actually play.

EDI could also have an insane lifespan. She'd be a treat showing up no matter when it's set.
I'd actually say one thing I want returned from Mass Effect 1's combat system! Yeah, I know. But there is one: ammo powers. It made the most sense, out of all the games, to have these be a thing you put in the gun before using it. You could still develop them as class abilities if you like - but just have that make them available for use in anyone's gun. Or better still, have a squad ability system to cover stuff like that, so you level up the entire squad in addition to individual characters, and squad-wide abilities fit there. Either way, they felt awkward as powers, and overly disposable as consumables. I'd love to see them return as full-blown proper weapon additions. Even maybe seeing the lost varieties back too!
And while I agree completely that Andromeda's combat system was the best, there's actually one aspect to it that I didn't find satisfying, and it took me by surprise. The moddability of weapons was too easy to abuse, and the game difficulty was too constructed expecting that. Here's what I found happening, comparing ME3 with MEA: in ME3 I'd go with a cool weapon I liked the sound and feel of. In MEA I'd be worrying this cool weapon I liked the sound and feel of would never get enough out of modding to be worth using over a more obvious choice. I want that "everything's valid" balance back. The way I think you achieve that is... honestly, getting rid of the mods that turn some guns into behaving like other types of gun. As fun as that is, it makes them all unspecial. Sure add some damage, tweak the knockback, that's all basic enough. Or you know what might work instead? Make the mods more bespoke, to be able to balance them better! So sure this clip size modifier might add 40% to THIS gun's clip, but maybe it only adds 12% to THIS gun's clip, and so on... and not by general category, but specific from weapon-to-weapon. If they wanna put that sort of work in, that's how I think that works well. Otherwise, I'd rather just put an ammo adjuster in, have the base weapon combine with my character abilities, and call it done.
This was a perfect storm of missed opportunity going from ME3 to MEA, actually. I love freeze ammo. I always wanted to make an ice blaster character. Up to ME3, if you wanted squad cryo ammo, you halved your class options. And if you wanted to launch a freeze blast? You halved your class options as well - to the exact opposite half! They could not combine, it was one or the other. Then MEA comes along with its much better class system and I'm like YES I can finally have a freeze blast and cryo ammo at the same time! But then it's like "is consumable now" to the ammo and "is flamethrower now" to the freeze blast and I'm like damn. And there isn't even a heavy cryo weapon either and I'm like double damn.
Actually, heavy weapons are worth a mention. I want them to treat it like any other weapon type. They typically weigh much more than everything else, but you can put it on your back just like everything else. Done. That's how those should be. Still with a seperate ammo type, but like, that's something you decide to either rely on or not (same with grenades and such).
One more thing: I want the damn Mantis back. Widow is lovely, but it's not my Mantis. I don't care if it's basically a straight downgrade, gotta have that classic tonk! The tonk is everything. Goddamnit, actually bring back a lot of the armor designs from the first game too. Not as replacements, but definitely as options! I dunno how everyone else feels about the carbon fibre look they coated everything in afterwards but to me it looks so much worse. Gimme those clean matte ceramic panels any day over that shiny pixel-checquers texture.

I'd like to see Shepard take a similar role to what either Hawke or the Hero of Ferelden had in Inquisition - if they survived the events of ME3.
I think a new protagonist is the best (or at least the safest) route given the point about keeping Shepard's legacy intact, but I also think that having Shepard appear in the game if possible is the right thing to do. Whether that's a couple of missions where they assist the player before leaving to fulfill some mysterious Spectre duty, or even through an "I'm here, this is what I'm doing" vidmail or something, it would be a great addition. They could even allow players the option of inputting a face code or going with an iconic default look, similar to Hawke in DAI.
I know there's been a lot of talk about Bioware maybe having to canonize certain choices in ME3 to make 4 work and that the fate of Shepard may be one of them, but we have to go through *A LOT* to make sure we get that tiny little scene where Shepard may or may not have taken a breath after falling from the Citadel, and it would be nice to see that effort rewarded, as opposed to becoming something that ultimately doesn't matter in the slightest.
Either way, exciting things ahead! Can't wait to play ME4, can't wait to see the ME4 content from Big Dan.

The Archon may be seen as a one dimensional villein in MEA, but he's more like Saren then people give him credit for. For starters, the process of exaltation to make more kett is a practice that the entire kett empire allows. And the fact that empire is still out there in the Andromeda galaxy beyond the Heleus cluster the game takes place in, there could be more horrors that await. Also like Saren, the Archon is a rouge individual who had been seduced by the power of ancient tech to carry out their plans (and yes I know Saren was indoctrinated, but we only know so little of the Rem-Tech, who knows for sure if it wasn't effecting him in that way.)
With all that said, I would like to see a different approach to paragon and renegade if they return, and my idea for how that could work would be to instead of having branching dialogue choice to determine P or R, let the missions have a P or R path to fallow to completion so the player is playing the choice, not just choosing one in a cut-scene (look to Zaeed or Samara's loyalty mission to know what I mean.) Another thing, and this taking a page from the rpg Star Ocean 1996, whereas the player can only recruit their squad members based on which path you fallow in a game, for example if applied to ME2, if you do Samara's recruitment mission, but you make ruthless renegade choices during that time Samara won't want to side with you, but you'll attract the attention of Morinth instead. This would make things feel more dynamic from a roll-playing perspective, giving what most ME fan say they want, more choice and consequence in their actions.

I think what made Saren more compelling is that he originally had good intentions but as he slowly became more indoctrinated he started to loose control of his own will, he was a good display of what the reapers were capable of, capable of turning one of the most powerful spectres in the galaxy into a puppet. Benezia, was an even better display of this and the reapers turned someone with a remarkably strong will into even more of a puppet than Saren was by the end.

As for bringing back Shepard, I'm not sure if it was a smart move, but I'd for sure like it as I think he's a great character, very flexible in the original trilogy and even a FemShep worked really well and that's something not a lot of games can do, be so flexible and yet well-crafted that it works for both genders.

Even if the game takes place hundreds of years after ME3 and is a follow up to Andromeda, it could still feature Shepard and even the non-asari/krogan squadmates. The arks in Andromeda set a precedent where individuals can stay in stasis for hundreds of years, and if Shepard somehow ends up in the Andromeda system (how? no idea, but I think someone mentioned an angaran in the ME4 trailer?) and Liara tracks them down, I don't see any way their love interest doesn't also make the trip.
That being said, even if we get to see more Shepard, they don't need to be the playable character. As you said, Shepard's arc feels complete, but getting to see and interact with them (and having their choices reflected in the game, like the DA:O choices in Inquisition largely were) could potentially make up flsomewhat for ME3's ending.

I agree with All of your topics in this video. I too would like to see the OG cast returning with the And. Cast, just to see if Ashley and Cora would get along.
But me personally, I like the see newer weapons in the next game. Would like to see Shotguns like the M4 of close to with Slug ammo like the Slug shotguns from ME1..
Or what if you could actually meet The or A master Gunsmith that has lots or most of the weapons from ME1 along with weapons of now and fixed them up like ME1 along with him or her making bombs. Cause in MEA, I always had this idea on what if before you found the arch ship of the Sla..(can't spell the name) you found him/her and they made a bomb that could take out the Archon's ship as soon as both ships left his........ That would be (in the words of Wesley in "White Men can't jump" movie ---It's Pretty, It's just So Pretty".

Having just finished replaying the trilogy I'd like to see them apply a cannon ending and continue the story.
Maybe this causes sales to tank as long term fans think there's no reason to play anymore but personally I think there are just too many promising ways to continue the events of that galaxy given the potential choices made in the trilogy. Choose an ending that is not the absolute best ending and move forward with it. I think the most compelling follow up story would primarily revolve around the Krogan and the story of how that plays out if you do the paragon path of ME3.

I'd love to see returns of other NPCs and Squadmates in ME4, I don't think Shepard should come back at all though. Most of us have customized them to our liking so it wouldn't make sense for them to show up in their defaults; personally it'd throw my whole game off. However, choices that shepard made should def still be instilled into the next game. I agree with another commenter saying that another protagonist should be the focus and there should be another threat to the galaxy rather than returning bad guys (unless they come back to somehow help). I like the idea of someone different possibly being inspired by Shepard and striving to accomplish things but there should be a choice on whether they ultimately are consumed by renegade possibly turning them bad ( leading to a whole new ending) or if they stay on the path of being good.

    3. I want Citadel to be more explorer like combine all Areas from 1-3 into one kinda upset they change the citadel throughout all 3 games.

So... Basically all I wanted then? I have played the trilogy, second one the most by far, 12 times fully I think, other than that, Andromeda had awesome gameplay. Jumpjets, Fucking Bionic flying?! Shepard has always been a Vanguard in my headcanon after all so that was awesome. Vanguard plus freaking flamethrower? Fuck yes!. I hope they will return to the old Dark Energy plotline, because that seems awesome. Space nerd myself, so that really spoke to me after finding that out just a few years ago. Awesome, much better than the reapers just harvesting all intelligent life every cycle. I want a bigger reason for it, and the whole dark energy/bionics part sounded soo awesome. Kind of like how The Matrix didn´t , originally, have humans as heat/energy, but they used the brains of humans as CPU´s. Sounds much better than just using ineffective human battery´s. Perhaps different factions will war over how to deal with it, but in the end it is a cosmological catastrophy that can´t be solved with politics. Like how the Reapers couldn´t be dealt with with just one species/ faction. Although, you will need the politics to solve it, because otherwise it will smaller pockets of untapped potential. I just hope I am still alive when the next Mass Effect comes out. I will probably get cancer or a heart attack by then

I think if they expanded the gameplay to use or have the option to use the stuff from the multiplayer side of things from either me3 or andromeda’s multiplayer it would go fairly well. This is considering the amount of fun people had playing this like the orphan battle master, the geth pyro, the volus, the different n7 classes, the mercenary classes, etc. I would also like to add that I don’t think the should reuse Shepard or his squad mates. They all have their own lives and should be too busy with their own problems to help us, plus it would be a much safer option to have them take a backseat in the story. I also this it would be healthier to focus on taking the mass effect 2 side focus on the mercs as enemies. This is due to the galaxy rebuilding and the mercenaries, and splinter groups would be able to run rampant.

I mean that it could be the way that you import your game like it was in previous ones or that comic book could appear at the beginning like is also was in previous ones. Then either you imported game or turn on the comic book it will bring you the story it has the best for you. For example if your shepard stood alive and you have seen that scene him breathing your story will be with shepard in it and you will play the game with this character or if your shepard died you just dont have him in your story. I would like to see it like it would be some years after and liara looking for shepard would be only a prelogue (like in me2 the ship git destroyed) and the actual game starts for example with tali and shepard living in the house that he promised her to build and then the action starts

And bring some of the old characters back as squad mades or simple NPC. But a new protagonist.

I full on agree about Andromeda. It had by far the most open customization for guns and player experience at the least aside from armour which that game was weirdly lacking in. I have to say for me the key thing ME4 needs to have is a resolution that keeps with at the least a good amount of stuff from ME3 or the ending that you chose. I would definitely prefer Shepard to continue as the main protagonist but if they do not choose Shepard to continue on then give us a KOTOR 2 style start where we can somewhat choose how the canon of your RPG so it stays more consistent, Andromeda had the weird feeling of nothing you did in the other 3 mattered because it technically has no backstory pertaining to the events of 1 through 4. Its just kind of a weird time travel feeling, like how the Krogan still had the Genophage.
I mean also even if your Shepard didn't live through the ending of ME3 remember that Cerberus never wiped away your genetic makeup and somone still possibly could make a new Shepard. Though I think its more enjoyable it may not be the best course of action to keep Shepars through all of them. It was just the ME3 did not have a great send off for the series as a whole and we never really got to resolve anything after the fact.

  • @SeanMather
    @SeanMather Před 2 lety

I’m trying to be open to whatever game is made….but here what I want in the next Mass Effect.
    1) The further out time frame. I think it’s narratively a safer bet to go further into the future. There’s less constraints and it gives the galaxy a chance to be rebuilt somewhat after the Reaper War, because even with the control ending large swaths of the galaxy is real messed up.
    2) A canon ending…. This is super controversial, but they need to pick an ending, and it had better be the destroy ending. The whole narrative arc of the games was Shepard was going to destroy the Reapers, and then at the last minute to consider the control or synthesize (whatever it was called) was a cop out, and i fell for it, and it cheapens my memory of my first play through. Shepard, even my Legendary Edition paragon of paragons, had to destroy the Reapers no matter the cost. Trying to fit the three different endings is going to be either messy, lame or hand waved away, so Bioware needs to put on the grown up pants and pick the right ending.
    3) Most of Your points Big Dan. I want to see a few of the old crew, like a senile old Wrex (can you imagine Old Man Wrex? Lol) and a much more seasoned Grunt. Liara of course, maybe a few other nods to random side characters, like the great great grand kids of Jenna and Conrad. I want Andromeda’s combat back, but even more refined, and it’s level systems are a good starting point. I want ME3s conversation system though, as picking dialogue was stupid in Andromeda. And it has to have the trilogies choices, or it’s just not Mass Effect. The good villain too!
    4) No collecting mini game! Ugh, I don’t want to scan, probe, or mine anything! These were all such drags on the flow of the games, and if they didn’t help you get the best outcomes I would have ignored them completely. The only one that made sense narratively was 3 and Andromeda, but even still scanning a map is just boring. It’s frustrating how much cool lore was packed away into that too!
    5) ground vehicle combat. This was lacking in Andromeda, which sucked because it was by far the best ground vehicle to control. I loved missions like the start of Vermire, or the Feros bridge, and if done right these could be great.
    6) no “open world” in the traditional gaming sense, like Andromeda. Don’t give me a galaxy with a bunch of markers on it and say go, actually craft a narrative reason for me to go places, and give me a few choices on the way. ME1 was pretty good for this, dropping reasons to visit stuff in a way that made sense, while still giving you a feeling of choice, like leaving poor Liara till last.
    7) Don’t ignore Andromeda. I want to see some tie in, and maybe even make a couple of the Andromeda crew squad mates. Older versions of the Ryders would be fun to see, and Liara and Peebee would be hilarious. I would really like it if the mysterious creators of the Remnant came back and was furious humanity messed with its experiments in the Andromeda, could make for an interesting story….or not.
    8) if we get Shepard….it needs to be my Shepard for me, and your Shepard for you. Player choices need to be part of Shepard, even if they pick the canon ending. Even if it’s just a questionnaire you can fill out at the start, or a legendary edition save import, if you bring Shepard back his choices need to come through. Even if everyone died, I don’t think there’s a way to kill Liara in the trilogy, so it makes sense to bring her back, even if no one else made it.
    9) Finally… I can deal if they don’t do any of the stuff I just wrote. Just be a great game. Be the first 90% of ME3, or Kotor, or whatever great Bioware game you want. It can come out in 2030 if it means it’s a great game that actually delivers (please don’t though, 2025 is about all I can handle, and even that’ll be rough lol!). But like i said at the start, I can forgive them ignore every other point I just made if it’s an awesome game. Please be good. That’s all I really want.

The combat in ME:A was alright, probably a little too hectic for my tastes what i didn't like (primarily from a lore standpoint) was the being able to pick and choose power/abilities, especially Biotic ones given how the lore is around how human biotics are developed, you don't suddenly have access to biotic powers by flipping a switch.
An optional playable alien species would be cool imo.
Shepard coming back would be interesting but I think not as the main character, more a capt Anderson style position or even as the human councillor (maybe with a later Dlc or similar where you can play as him)
And give a proper romance scene for Turians... they're weird bird people I get it but pretty much every other romancable species has had a proper scene.

I think multiple antagonists could be a cool direction for the next mass effect game as galactic society deals with the reprucussions off the reaper war, preferably theyd work out a way that a single ending isnt treated as canon and any alternative ending is a what if situation as that just seems a slap in the face to anyone who chose differently, if the protagonist isnt sheperd this time round then i really hope we get to play non humans, they managed it in dragon age so no reason they couldnt try it for the next mass effect

Whether anybody agrees with my sentiment or not. On the contrary, I would love for BioWare to Complete Shepard’s storyline with the missing story events that also includes their connections with one of the Ryder siblings. There’s is still plots of the storyline from andromeda that also needs a conclusion. Why? Let’s go over the facts of Andromeda & The original Mass Effect story. Noveria, Voeld, Project Overlord, EDI, SAM, Geth, The Collector’s( is there a connection to the Kett), Jack( is there a connection to Sloan Kelly & Kadara gangs), Dr. Okeers Research on the Genophage, is the Illusive Man the Benefactor?, The Quarian Ark, Cerberus, Miranda, Liara, Shepard, The Alliance, Jaal (and the rest of the Angaara), Javik (the last of the prothean race) is he truly the last one left?, Conrad Verner & his sister, etc. We need a balance to the story, and clearly I would be fine with both Shepard & Ryder, as the main characters, or at least the first meeting between Shepard Liara & Ryder. I would cherish a party setup with Jaal & Javik/ or Jaal & Garrus.

I'd also keep the story small scale, without any galaxy wide or all of civilization level threats, a deeper, more personal story. Save the big 'Omega level' threats for the finale of a trilogy after the new characters have been built up.

I'm someone who's first Mass Effect experience was through the Legendary Edition. Because of that, I was never upset at ME3's ending. In fact, ME3 is, imo, the best ME game. That being said, the romances we're my favorite parts of the story. I'm a real sucker for romance as a genre in general. Something I felt was lacking from the ending, was trying in Shepard's romantic partner (assuming he/she survived). Like, for example, a still image of Liara holding a baby Asari if you stayed with her in all three games really would've been perfect. A small look into the future Shepard and thier partner shared. I would like to see something like that included in the ending 🙂
Also being able to explore some of the home worlds when they're less destroyed would be great! Like, Thesia looked beautiful! It'd be awesome to be able to check it out.
If the story takes place right after the series and we get to see/recruit our old squad mates, I'd like them to add back in some of the previously cut bi romance options.
I'd also like to see a deeper exploration of some of the races that got less attention in the original trilogy, like the Elcor for example.
I personally didn't mind the combat in ME3 compared to ME Andromeda and in a lot of way I preferred it. It felt a lot less chaotic and almost had a kind of cinematic feel to it at times. Whereas, in Andromeda, combat felt almost chaotic at times. Something about it just felt off to me. Maybe I just wasn't used to how if flowed in that game 🤷‍♀️
No matter what though, I'm still excited to see this game released and will definitely be preordering it when it's available 🙂
