    Seen a lot of pro using console systems, didn’t know about it until today in-depth. I think it will be a learning curve and a acquired skill, practice makes perfect. Thank you for the tutorial..

    Great overview of the console, Mark! I've been loving mine since Monogram sent me one, and I truly can't imagine editing/grading without one. You did some really cool controls in your color grading profile - I hadn't even thought of taking the grade from the previous clip and applying it to the next. That would be such a huge timesaver for a lot of the b-roll I shoot in my studio for my videos. Gonna set up some time this week to adjust my profile. So glad you're enjoying your console too!

    I have a Loupedeck CT and love it, takes a learning curve to get things set right. I do like the bigger and multifunction of the dials better with Monogram, I might just get those and a button or two JUST for CC. The big knobs make way more sense in my use case. Thanks for the demo.

    A set of sliders would work well for hue, saturation, exposure, etc.

    Great video! I've been using my monogram since the Kickstarter release. Love it! Works great with FCP and even better with Capture One.
    Can't believe I never noticed that Mix slider under the color wheels! Or is that newish addition to FCP?

    Great idea, just wished you picked Loupe Deck as I was just given a Loupedeck Live and I am struggling on how to program it! I also have a Contour Shuttle Pro. I like the Loupedeck, because the buttons are all LCD screens, so you can display a label of what you had programmed into it. It's just that I am struggling with the old Learning Curve. LOL. The principles are simple, but to make it happen is another story.

      I had the same concern with my Monogram Video Console, but pressing and holding the Next or Previous Profile button on the core console gives me a quick overlay of what each button is on my screen - which I have found I prefer because I don't have to strain to look down at a console to read the button label...I can keep looking at the screen and get a quick reminder of what buttons are what. It actually reminds me of my keyboard and the keyboard shortcuts I regularly use - with so much repetition I don't even have to look down at my keyboard any more and the same has happened with my Video Console - it's just second nature at this point.

      @@matthewTobrien Yes! I'm finding the same thing - if I forget a function, that overlay is super easy to reference. Btw I've ordered the Streamdeck as well but primarily to use for our live streaming shows to control camera switching, scenes, and overlays.

    Hi Mark, Great review as always.
    I actually was an early adopter especially of the Contour Shuttle II and have found it to be really useful. I might however, be time to choose a control surface that is more dynamic. The thing that is making me hesitant is ‘Command Post’ though. I have it downloaded but before I can go further the software asks me for permission to allow screen recording. This has to be one of the the biggest security issues out there? Surely it is not safe to allow third party software access to record one’s screen. This smacks of “Here world, have all my banking and social security information!” Can ‘Command Post” be installed without this permission?
    Thanks for your input Mark.

    Fantastic review as always, Mark. The requirement to essentially memorize the functions of dozens of unlabeled buttons in each mode is what prompted me to put mine back in a box in the closet. I understand you can press the two keys below the screen to see an overlay, but this felt disruptive to my flow (first world problems, right?).
    This is where the Resolve consoles shine IMO. Each button is clearly labeled and backlit so there's no guessing what each will do. Too bad they don't work with FCP.

    • @markspencer1203
      @markspencer1203 Před rokem

      Thanks for your comment. So far I find that overlay super useful and as long as I don't go too crazy with all my mappings I'm remembering the key ones pretty well, but we'll see!

    For me the Loupedeck Live with the SideshowFX templates is a better and cheaper option; with the icons I can see what the function are and I can use it for a lot of programma.

    Nice demo. Mark, thanks and great to see you!
    Upon reflection the Monogram Modular console is very innovative but very expensive for video (900.-1'200 $) plus import taxes for us over sea! The Black Magic "Speed Editor" is only 100$ or 300-400.-$ with the film editing sofware Resolve!! DaVinchi "color wheel console" (800$) are cheeper and seem way better - I write that as a FCPX user. When is FCPX going to get a "speed editor" on par with the competition ?
    Why can't apple develop their own FCPX accessory's ? I worked in a video production company using FCP-7 in 2000's and back then we also only had the mouse and keyboard ... and endless render times with top of the line apple G4's!
    At least there are some new input devices to speed up and make work more intuiative.....
    Best wishes, Mike

    Watching the jog dial struggle to move the play head in the first example was enough for me to pass 😅

    • @IainAnderson
      @IainAnderson Před rokem +1

      It is possible to attach the jog dial to arrow keys, and then moving through a timeline is pretty smooth. There are plenty of different strategies you can use.

    • @matthewTobrien
      @matthewTobrien Před rokem

      Personally I haven't had any issues where using the orbiters to jog a single frame or 10 frames has lag. It works smoothly whenever I use it. 🤷‍♂

      @@matthewTobrien I think it was operator error as I posted above - assuming moving it faster would move the playhead faster!

    • @chrisatlatenite
      @chrisatlatenite Před rokem +1

      @@markspencer1203 I THINK the default layout uses virtual keyboard shortcuts to do this - i.e it's literally just triggering left and right arrows on your keyboard. However, the best way to control the playhead is via the CommandPost Workflow Extension. I don't believe this is currently built into our Monogram layout - so you'd need to use a Monogram Favourite to assign the "Move Playhead Forward/Backward X Frame" actions in the Monogram Control Surface Panel in CommandPost, then assign that favourite to your Jog Wheel/Knob in Monogram Creator. This will use the Workflow Extension, so it's much faster. This is what the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor and Editors Keyboard layout use by default. The downside is that you won't get audio scrubbing with this.

    Mark, the company doesn’t seem to have stock of their products and doesn’t respond to emails. They want you to pay upfront and wait for 3 months. Their kick starter pages are full of people who haven’t received their products even after a year of their committed date.
