Cutey Robin, they spot any disturbed ground and swoop in I have been bumped into by Robins while weeding before they are so brave. The butterfly netting top to the cold frame is genius. How about adding a layer of shingle inside if you have any left from your greenhouse floor project? It will self level and drain away any excess water and be slightly less inviting for slugs and snail which are more going to be an issue if you have gaps under the frame at the bottom.
I have an Irrigatia solar powered system (no WiFi) and have used it very successfully in my veg patch for several years from a large (280L I think) water butt. It was their smallest system and worked really well. It is programmed to pump for however long every three hours during the day. It between it is charging the battery.
We bought it a Hampton Court Flower Festival about 8 years ago for about £60 (looks like it is about £80 now) but came with the top drippers, pipes and a good length of seep hose. The pump is powerful enough to feed the drippers and the seep hose. to 5 meters away I had to fill the water butt from the hose once a week.
We used to put it away each winter as I found the foxes dug up the seep and liked to play with the pipes once they could see them after harvesting. We haven't used it for a couple of years mainly because of the wet summers and I rearranged the veg area and haven't had a chance to re work the system to fit. You have spurred me to get it out again.

That kit looks like an excellent idea! The sunnier the day is, the more it will water. It might not overwater on cool, cloudy days.
The water level probe is a gap the electricity must cross (through water) to get to the pump. If there's no water on the probe, the electricity can't flow.

For surface watering have a look at adjustable end of line watering spikes.

Hi JB, aww, lovely Robin, thats Steve keeping an eye on you ❤ will be interesting to see if the solar water irrigation system works well in your polytunnel. Good job on your cold store, the plants will love it. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

I have the Harvst systems which work off and online in my polytunnel and greenhouse. It's quite expensive but it does work off a 10kw solar panel. Very robust and really powerful pump. Highly reccomended tbh.

I have a similar system on the greenhouse and have to top up the water butt with watering cans the same but I usually just add two watering cans full each time that I water and it keeps it tops up

Love the little robin, i hope her brood of eggs are matiring nicely.
Great seeing the cold frame being reused on the allotment and you did a good job of securing the netting to the frame. So much more secure than the temporary set by the greenhouse that you did last year, just don't forget what/where you have move into here.
    Another great video 😁

My tunnel was 65foot long by 14 foot wide……standard size 40 years ago……it used to get sooo hot, but I use to leave the doors open with weld mesh across the doors, added fleece when the strawberries were fruiting. Split doors handy too, but only when building.
I still have my tunnel is going strong and I still use it, but it’s cover is very ripped on the hottest side, so far too much ventilation!
I would like to recover half of it, but haven’t the time or energy to prepare it …..maybe one day!
The irrigation system looks like it’s going to be beneficial and cheap.
I wish all garden centres would store their compost in the dry, very important else it has a short shelf life.
    Thanks

Definitely get a shade cloth for your greenhouses and pt in the event of a cloudless sky heatwave. I have shade nets and use the black butterfly netting over mesh and other areas.
Chances of a hot summer is fairly slim we’re told. And clouds are all the rage.

Best to put the anti-syphon valve at the top by the pump, JB. It may not sense a negative pressure so low down as it has a head of water above it.

Am researching solar irrigation system for myself but have about 70’ from rainbarrels at shed to polytunnel so using proper solar panel + sump pump - hose to tunnel. Collecting water at shed I have 6 rain butts, One thing I have learned to use ‘pressure compensating’ heads(don’t get adjustable one) so this addresses how you get even distribution of water across system. 2nd thing would suggest that you do purchase heads that stay about the soil because smallest bit of dirt will clog the discharge. “easy garden irrigation” has good selection of head types you can look at - Living traditions homestead has a number of irrigation vids on CZcams - latest show learning from past mistakes

The in-ground drippers might be better - I am interested to see. I have previously bought the Irrigatia sol c12. Worked great, but pricey, the drippers can dislodge which then stops it working properly so you have to watch out and pop them back on.

I recently bought a similar watering system. However, trying to work out how to program the unit has me stumped! Will be interested to see how you set yours up with times etc. Agree that the instructions for these types of units are next to useless! I’ve attached a weight to the filter to make sure it is always submerged and not floating on the top of the water.
