13:07 - Just wanted to mention that the smaller 0.75l pots I showed off are OAKLAND GARDEN pots and NOT Elixir pots. I got mixed up because I was looking at buying both of them, but I didn't order anything from Elixir :)
I ordered the same pots from Oakland and wasn't impressed with the quality, especially as they said professional quality 😔. My carrot seedlings were slugged, so I'm growing some in containers instead. Jo Devon 🙂
You can always double the pots up if they aren’t very strong, I never buy pots, just seem to get given them and that’s what I do with the flimsier ones.
Jess will fall in love with Asters 🥰
Love days like this JB! Great vid! Quite often I pack a drink and some sarnies for a no plan day at the allotment and tell the hubby "I'm going out to play, will be back when the street lights come on" 😂
That sounds perfect!
For your tight fitting seed starters, lay a couple long pieces of ribbon along the bottom before dropping the inserts in, making sure the ends of the ribbon stick out. Then you can lift the ribbons and they will lift/support the inserts.
Oooh that's good thinking!
Remove the flowering tips off the leeks, it can turn the leek woody if you leave them. Excellent day of work down the plot, i love it when you have lots of time.
You sweet peas look lush! You may want to consider planting them on the other side of the netting/mesh next year so that the grow INTO it rather than away from it. 🙂
I bought one lupin last spring and it grew and grew. Then Earlier this year I discovered lots of tiny seedlings in the gravel path -easily pulled out. I potted them up and now I have loads of lupins.
I have the same plastic problem with an allotment I have just taken over. Why do people put plastic in compost bins? Black plastiic coverings are popular to smother weeks but I do not intend using any plastic on my plot as it is such a big problem removing it afterwards. My allotment was covered in brambles and weeds. I could not cope with amount of digging needed so after cutting down all the growth I 9am putting in new raised beds using scaffold boards and filling with a layer of cardboard, a layer of the cut down undergrowth and am importing a load if top soil. This will enable me to start planting now within three weeks. I burnt the brambles and old bits of wood in two hours and sprinkled the ashes over the beds. Between the raised beds I am grassing over and will run the lawn mower over the paths to keep them nice. So I can identify with your experiences. Keep up the good work.
Awww, the robin's nest in the shed. How adorable is that! I have nuthatches in my bird house this year.
Oooh nuthatches are one of my favourite birds!! Been a while since I've seen one.
Not going to lie… heard the comment “New Order” in the car transferring section and expected “Blue Monday” to kick in like that fight meme that’s going around 😂. Great video: those peas look great, mowing and edge cutting makes all the difference 👍 and I’m going to relent and take the electric strimmer to the plot. Went this week and it was all mares tail. Half the fun was pulling it and seeing how much you could get out in one go much like you. Thanks for the like in the week! Cheers, Andy!
I really don't envy anyone with mares tail!!
Thank you for having a space and plants that resemble mine.
We have a large back yard here in Canada, and the battery lawn mower and strimmer we have are amazing and the batteries are interchangeable. Also push button start is great for me with fibromyalgia, no struggling. ❤
A lot of exciting plants……I think you have got the bug! Now you are not safe to go to a garden centre on your own!!
Great video, always love your enthusiasm, it’s infectious! Thanks for sharing.
Hahaha that gave me a giggle, you're definitely correct!
My Garland tray didn't work well at all for me. Re my plants I spritzed my Chillis with a weak epsom salts dilution as per Chillichump. They are now greener than a green thing and looking super healthy the tomatoes loved it as well.
However...My garden now has a rabbit and a pair of exceedingly healthy looking wood pigeons that have taken up residence. Unfortunately the three of them have come to the conclusion that I spent the last few months on a mission solely to provide them with the finest organic produce to cater for both their needs and those of their forthcoming offspring. My lettuce have been decimated and the dwarf beans look under threat.
Faced with both an air and land assault I'm working out my next move... I love watching them though 😁
Bumper JB edition loved it. Welcome to the world of the garden centre. Great prices at your nursery 12 plants for £3 absolute steal! i hope they do well dor you and Jess. Our lawnmower did the same as ours when Mr Grows-Veg started it the other day. a big cloud of smoke oh my days. i loved to hear contentment in your voice.
I loved seeing the Robins nest. such adaptive little birds 😊
I bought some of the 'Clever Pots' Propagator bases to use as trays and they are very good because they have grooves in that the water can sit in and handles that stick out at the sides. Our local discount store sells them for around £1 each, so not too bad. I'm not sure if they would fit those containerwise cell trays though, but I definitely want to put those on my Christmas list because I have been to soooo many garden centres and shops and all they ever sell (if any at all) are the really flimsy ones. I just want cell trays that will last.
Aww your poor little toms, they don't look very happy do they. I'm big into growing tomatoes (I think I am doing over 25 varieties this year, including an exciting one that has variegated white and green leaves, which are just coming through now and it looks so cool :D)
Definitely give them fresh compost and sprinkle in some bonemeal or blood fish and bone, hopefully they will pull through.
This year I'm doing about 1/3 coco-coir and 2/3 compost, with a little mole-hill soil mixed through, some perlite, and sprinkling of bonemeal when they are little then blood, fish & bone when potting on. So far mine are looking really good, ones sown in march are about 3ft now and a later sowing end of April I'm just potting on are about 3-4" high.
Really appreciate your videos, helps me keep up the enthusiasm for the garden on days when I'm tempted to stay inside - once I get out there I'm always glade I did. Thanks again.
Love to hear that, thank you!
I’ve got cordless Greenworks’s mower, strimmer & hedge trimmer… game changer up the allotment and in the garden … definitely recommend
I think stuff in the LetPot can get quite big! look at "7 pot club" videos and search for "AeroGarden Mini Yellow Rocoto". So what did you have for breakfast? Sounds like you should have gone with a full English breakfast 😉"Just a selection of slightly smaller pots", opens up to show a *lot* of pots 🤪They look like a nice size though! For the planting trays being very snug fit and hard to get out. Can't you get some non biodegradable string/wire to put between some cells so you can use it to lift the tray up? Too bad about the Garland self watering things. I was considering getting some as they look handy. But if they don't really work I probably won't bother. Haha love that you named it "Fort Fox" 🤣
Hi JB great seeing you again ❤
Love you JB ❤
I've had the same problem with trays having the perferct fit. What I do is leave one cell empty. Then I can use that cell to bottom-water, and then when I come to lift the tray out I can grab it from that cell.
Smart!
🐝thanks for the great video🌻
You can buy online for Wilko products JB. 🙂
Lovely video JB … thank you ❤
Regarding saving seed from the leeks, my understanding is you don't want to keep seed from plants that bolt because you'll just be more likely to have plants that bolt next year. You want to save seed from the ones that flower latest. Personally I would just chop the flower from bolting alliums.
The Stewart essentials gravel trays are great, fit the containerwise trays really well, cheap as chips, and quality great for the price 👍
The Lupins can take a long time it can take 8 weeks for mine to come through. So don't give up on them . Iv got those pots and have them it be my third year as longs you take care with them there last you .Keep up the good video. .
Don’t mist anytime in the day JB, especially chillies!
Any particular reason? I'm fairly sure the light intensification/leaf burn is a myth?
Wormwood grows to the size of a large shrub, with a woody stem. I put in two small plants at my allotment, and removed one after a year. The other is the size of a large rounded bush. I'm not sure if it has deterred any pests, and certainly not yellow meadow ants who like to build nests there.
Oooh that's interesting to know about the pests 😅 fingers crossed it does something!
Hi JB. I've not had much success with lupins until this year. I watched videos about winter sowing and decided to have a go. I sowed my seeds in milk bottles in January, put them outside, and ignored them. They ALL germinated. Maybe give it a go for next year.
Love it!
Oh JB you are so right those grow your own kits are horrible. Friends son got him a chilli kit and the instructions were terrible and needless to say none germinated!
Wilko are actually sold in the range and you can still buy online mate
I had a look online but couldn't find the trays, was only a quick glance mind you!
@@JBNat I'll have a look and if I see them I will send you a link
Maybe they have sold out
Fantastisch Good work jB you the best te moostiun thans te video friend Top 🌶️🌱💐🐝⛅🍅🌿🐝☕✔️
I’ve just netted my gooseberries before the birds rob them.
I should probably do the same!
my onions are the same very small not growing
That's a lot of flowers. Just how many acres are you planting? Just kidding. Looks lovely.
Hahahaa
How's your hay-fever this year ?
Better than last! New medication but still present. I touch my nose all the time when I'm filming because of it and I never realise until I'm editing 😂
My plot neighbour had been on his plot 30 odd years. He used to leave beds dormant cos we have mares tail. Does your viewers do that ?? Is it helpful. My old allotmenteer swore by that method. Any other suggestions for organic no dig approach
Marestail soon takes over if you leave it…I pull it out or trowel it out every time I see it and hardly have any now on my no dig plot
Physillia
How many liters are those potato pots?
30L :)
Perhaps you could feed your onions with some chicken manure
Back garden is looking lush love the foxgloves 🪻and you can't beat the feeling of freshly cutting the grass 🌿 it's good to finally have some sunshine ☀️😎
Fantastisch Good video jb you the best te moostuin bloems 🌺💐🏕🌤🙏🍅🌱👍🌹🏵☕️🪴🫛
