    Griffin variants are for the XM30 MICV, which is expected to carry a 35mm, maybe as big as a 50mm autocannon, but they’re the same program (Griffin is only one competitor, alongside Rheinmetall’s Lynx KF41 as the potential future M30) The 105mm assault gun *IS* the M10 Booker, there’s not two separate light tank entries. Plus a few of the vehicles have already entered service like the JLTV, the first AMPV, first M270A2, even the first Typhon Battery is in service. The ACV is the Marine Corps replacement for their older amphibious AAVP7, and the first ones are also already in operational service.

    IFVs like the Griffin shouldn't be armed with large 120 MM guns . . . the heavy gun severely limits Griffin mobility . . . and as we've learnt from the ongoing Russia Ukraine War that in current day warfare mobility has become a top priority . . . more so incase of moderately armoured IFVs . . . the M10 Booker is a light tank not an IFV or APV . . .

    The M10 Booker is a light tank. It fits all criteria . It is a tracked armored vehicle with a 360 degrees rotatable closed turret with a large caliber gun for direct fire. So it is a tank. It is however lightweight (compared to an MBT) and has relatively light armor (compared to an MBT). So it is a light tank.
    However the M10 is undergunned with only a 105mm instead of 120mm.

    • @macmcgee5116
      @macmcgee5116 Před 12 dny +2

      My understanding, for what it is worth, is that the US military does not want to classify it as a light tank out of the concern that someone will then try to use it as a tank. For the very reason that it is under armored/armed to take on other tanks.
      They want it used as a fighting vehicle with a big punch.

  • @fightforaglobalfirstamendm5617

    Gryphon/ XM30 should carry a 57mm gun with twin Javelin and stinger lauchers on each turret cheek. Carry a 40mm automatic grenade laucher and either a 20mm gun or a .50 gatling gun.

    And thats when you realise that all of that is mostly useless: you have to adapt to your enemy's firepower on the go. Russia supposedly had the best tanks in the world (which maybe is true but if you have only a few, they're useless) and, they found out that ERA and all that armor is useless, when you can just weld some metal plates to the exterior and have the same result against FPV's for cheap. You can never know what's gonna hit you and being flexible is the key to victory (and not overly spending on developing even more expensive technologies)
