      before I could film an update, our boxer pup had a play date with the saplings and destroyed them. Maybe this year I'll try again. Life is busy, so no guarentees

    I have a hard time propagating trees. So I have decided to catch them. I put buckets full of dirt next to the tree I want, wait for the saplings to grow then re-plant them.

    sorry for the late comment/update, yes it worked, however I don't have any of the saplings anymore, let's just say, don't put chewable things anywhere near a 1 year boxer puppy, as she thought they were a new toy for her. Life got to busy this year to try and redo saplings

    I would really like to try this - could we get an update on how this method went. Even if you put in the comments it was a disaster.

    Does your bucket have holes in the bottom for drainage ? how much and how often do you water? When do you plan on transferring them to soil, this year?
    Thank you for sharing, this is an awesome method!

    • @just_a_guy_doing
      @just_a_guy_doing  Před 4 lety +3

      The bucket does not have any holes drilled in it. What I did was wet the soil just enough for it to hold moisture. An easy test, is grab a handful of soil, if you squeeze the soil and water drips out, the soil is too wet, if you squeeze it and the soil doesn't hold shape, its too dry. By having the soil in a deep container, if I over had over watered the soil, all the water will settle to the bottom, and the upper dirt will self regulate how much water it wants.
      I originally placed the plants in a shady spot outside, but found it was still to warm/ too much sunlight, so I moved them into the garage, I placed a clear bag over the entire bucket, and placed it near a natural light source. A cool basement works well also. once the clippings starts showing new growth they can be transplanted. I will move them to a pot and monitor the root growth, then once they are about a foot or so tall I can transplant them, put a cage around them to keep from having a lawn mower accident, or critters from eating them. I am thinking they will be transplanted late fall, or next spring. It all depends on how fast they grow. best of luck in your clipping adventures.

      @@just_a_guy_doing PLEASE post an update! We have a birch tree that I love, but we have to move next year, leaving the tree behind. So I’m desperate to learn how to propagate my birch before we move, so I can take it with me to our next home.
