I'll never forget my daughter, when she was about 6, crying in pain after a wasp stung her. What did she say as I tried to comfort her? Complain about her misfortune? No: "Lucky it didn't sting you too, Daddy". Still makes me want to cry when I think about it. Here's to our little angels of light all over the world. ♥️
@Erling Braut Håland Again, I completely agree. Perhaps there is some primal evolutionary mechanism that impels 'grown ups' to be wary of predators, protect the offspring, in a hostile environment. You tried to cuddle a mama grizzly bear recently?😊 Young children don't need that mechanism to be so operative as it would be obviously ineffectual and, well, that's what parents and guardians are for! We have supposedly evolved into civilized communities (howls of laughter as the guns go off) so one might hope that such primal defence mechanisms might become redundant, like the retraction of our canines, as we no longer need to bite each other to death for mating rights (instead, we supposedly throw cans of soup at each other! 🤣).
Alas, all is not well in the Garden. Adults still fear one another (often with good reason) and, through nature and nurture, most young children have not been contaminated by destructive and/or violently guarded patterns of behaviour. Yet.
Young children are sacrosanct. Beautiful. Free. Adults are rather prone, at least occasionally, to being idiots. No exceptions. Ironic, isn't it?
