- Aslan & I continue along the south Oxford Canal towards Napton-On-The-Hill, in search of a quiet mooring for the next few days.
Later, I take a lengthy walk along the towpath to the village of Napton, where I find a superb example of the classic English village shop, and am delighted to be able to film around with permission of the owner.
Five days or so later, we set off again and head towards the flight of 9 locks of Napton, beginning the slow, arduous climb . . .

Still watching for the same reasons. The tour of canal system with Kevins (your) short but informative commentary and witty humor. I appreciate the zoomy map thing showing the route and surrounding areas. Its just a very well put together little gem of entertainment without drama or violence or made up scenes. Just Kevin (you) and Aslan and what you see is what you get. I love it. Keep on chuggin my friend I've never met, and I'll keep watching....

Hello Kevin. When you get to bridge 220 at Shipton on Cherwell, watch out for the Church of the Holy Cross. Behind the church is Shipton Manor, once owned by Richard Branson who built a recording studios there. It's where Mike Oldfield recorded Tubular Bells. Into Thrupp and you will find Annie's tea room and then The Boat pub which featured in some of the Morse episodes. Happy cruising!

I cannot help but to think, what a wonderful and peaceful life. It's the countryside combined with the water, purple flowers growing on the banks, and the overcast sky that culminates into pure bliss. I enjoy your video's on a 100 inch screen hooked up to my stereo system. Oddly enough, even if I'm viewing on my cellphone, it's always a dam good show. Thanks!

@@CountryHouseGent It's on a projection screen placed on my office wall opposite my desk and recliner. To your point, it's a nice setup and incredibly immersive. At some point down the road, I want to create a circus cinema system. It's a large round screen system that uses the Insta 360 to project all sides into a room. Well, just an idea. On the other hand, I would rather be out there on the canal system filming than just watching. There is nothing like the real thing you know. Thanks again for your work. You always have my support!
What a wonderful part of the country and the Oxford is such a fantastic experience. A special mention to Fenny Compton Marina, where I purchased my first narrowboat and enjoyed every minute of our time there. Great memories

Kevin, I started watching your narrowboat adventures back when you bought Aslan. Then the world went sideways and we got through it keeping up with your trials. Last September we finally made it over to the UK and went straight way to Ely where we rented a beautiful vessel from the Black Prince hire company there. It was an amazing week learning the slow pace up and down the rivers Ouse and Cam visiting Cambridgeshire and ending up trading up to a cruiser near Heacham to explore the Broads. Best holiday we have ever had! All I can think of is getting back over there for the next adventure for us. Maybe to bath or if we can figure out winning the lottery, a month around the Lake District. Thank you for your inspiration from the panhandle of Texas!

As soon as you walked along the road into Napton, hemmed in by growing greenery, I found myself wondering if this looks like Constable Nick Rhea’s Aidensfield. The buildings sold me on that wish. I’ve been reading the multitude of books, one after the other, for months. Then when you went into the shop that was also the post office, I thought, oh, yes, this is great because that’s how it is in the books! Thank you, Kevin, as always you brought me great joy, and I’m not even all the way through the vlog! That to watching now.
You're very welcome Lynette and quite right, villages like Napton are the pieces of "Old England" I often refer to. They're still out there but increasingly hard to find.

This is getting too weird now, a few episodes ago you went through Hawkesbury where I grew up which was weird enough, but seeing you go through the village where my Dad currently lives, and where I regularly spend weekends is even weirder.
I can assure you the windmill and house attached are stunning.

Not been in that area for a while, too many locks for kayaking normally go on lovely family walks in those sections.
Hoping to get the kayak wet this weekend, hopefully not from the sky...

I loved that little grocery store/post office (although I daresay the owner does increase his prices by a p or three because of the lack of competition). What strikes me (as a Yank) when I compare the offerings in that shop to a small US convenience store (eg a 7-11 or Dollar General) is the comparative dearth of junk food. (Alas, the US is addicted to junk food; that's why so many of our residents are "weight-challenged"). The canal looked like a watery version of the M1 with so much traffic!
We're all trying for a better life and when I saw your progs on amazon prime, i knew I had to look you up on YT to see how you're getting along. Well done you.

I have that issue as well with small shops around our county........ While they are handy the 2x-3x price increase is rather ridiculous.

Very nice! I think that you are more patient than I might be with new boat hires. Well, no reason to hold their unfamiliarity against them and I wouldn’t. I have just seen too many videos of atrocious behavior from some thinking they are on the expressway. No sign of that in this video so I could say never mind and delete this. I used to live the country life, for me that meant taking the .45 out with you when you took out the garbage, because a cougar was sacrificing deer out by the garbage cans at night.
Wow, taking the trash out has never been such an adventure. 😳
@@CountryHouseGent Yeah, an 8 year old was saved from a cougar in July this year near Olympic National Park, Wa....2018 a 4 year old was saved by family dogs in Leaven, wa....we have a LOT of big animals in WA Bears, Black, Brown and Grizzly, Cougars, Bobcats, etc...
The real loss is that if a shopkeeper refuses to allow filming, he loses your patronidge AND potential future patrons. I guess they missed that point...

I noticed on Amazon ( my third go round watching the series ) during season 3 Ep 2, and again season 3, Ep 3 ( if winter comes, can spring be far ) Amazon put an 18+ rating in the upper left corner! When to my amazement it said “foul language”. No Foul, or poultry for that matter anywhere! Water foul abounds however, then Swans and Mallards and ducks and the like have confused Amazon. I hope this helps as families with parental controls on won’t find the series! PS I cry foul!
