Guy Burnet Craig actor wanted to tell a different story from John-Paul Craig was not a coming out story but about a confusing all consuming deep love for one person his bestfriend who just happened to be a guy Craig knew he still fancied girls but that he loved John-Paul
Craig and John-Paul Could never see eye to eye regarding how Craig felt about his own sexuality in John-Paul eye's once you sleep with a guy your definetly gay JP seemed to of never heard of bisexuals before shouldn't you be getting back to Sarah comparing your white bits you pretending to find hers attractive oh of course im not gay i just sleep with a fellow that is it's pathetic just be honest if not for me then for yourself Craig im not gay JP fine just forget it forget everything forget me

This was John-Paul first appearance on hollyoaks although the McQueens had meant to lived in the village for years John-Paul is a year younger than Craig and has probably admired him from a far for quite sometime looking back on this meeting would anyone of us of paired thesw two men together as a couple. Holloyoaks weaved a good story by making them become bestfriends who were always in each other back pockets and then pairing Craig with Sarah who he had liked for quite sometime and pairing john Paul with hannah making them the perfect foursome going on double dates together as time went on we began to notice that John-Paul didn't really seem that keen on dating hannah and he seemed bothered by Sarah and Craig kissing at first holloyaks tried to mislead us that John-Paul fancied sarah on the 5th of janauary we found out for sure who John-Paul was inlove with when he went round to Craig im inlove with someone but its not Sarah we've got so close and I've messed it up John-Paul chickened out of telling Craig he was inlove with him and got a hug of Craig mates yeah John-Paul was in turmoil we see aftershave bottle with criag face on it that night out at loft when a drunken Craig was holding John-Paul face that was the moment he truly knew for sure he was inlove with Criag he so wanted to kiss Craig but Craig refer to him as like a brother and kissed his head
John-Paul then beat up sonny and Justin to protect Craig John-Paul you dont understand why im doing any of this do you i have to protect you Criag because we are brothers
John-Paul confessed his love to Craig and once he did it was like he removed the wool from Craig eyes Craig began to see John-Paul in a completely new light Craig was the one to kiss John-Paul at the dance off although John-Paul took the blame and then the fight happens desperate to not be thought of gay Craig beats John-Paul up and says to him you told me you loved me you queer John-Paul punched criag back knocking him and ends their friendship right their and then although he stays inlove with Craig who he believes is homophobic Sarah helps patch up their friendship hollyoaks adds spike to the mix who causing Craig to become increasingly jealous of spike being with John-Paul Sarah and John-Paul just believed that Craig is being homophobic they had no idea that Craig is actually jealous of spike being with John-Paul
On Mcdean day when John-Paul says to him i used to really fancy you but you don't have to worry about that I've grown up alot since then
Craig works himself up to a jealous frenzy scribbling on his desk JP luvs Spike he has to leave his own exam to find out how John-Paul really feels about him John-Paul admits his love and is shocked when Craig kisses John-Paul and wants to sleep with him afterwards John-Paul is truly happy this is something he wanted for along time Craig feels conflicted as a big part of him hoped he'd sleep with John-Paul and get it out of his system it doesnt work and he only seems to desire John-Paul more and more clinging to Sarah because she is the perfect cover
Frankie and Jake were horrified to find out Craig has been sleeping with John-Paul and even more horrified when Criag told them he didnt want Sarah he wanted John-Paul they tried to sweep under the carpet but it was no use Mcdean were meant to be Craig and Sarah weren't
@@lucyhowarth1193 hmm you raise an interesting point about a young JP admiring upperclassman Craig from afar during their school years. That could be an interesting prequel little spinoff/miniseries for HO to explore--tracking JP & Craig (moreso JP, and we've already seen quite a bit of Craig's life as a teen boy on the original show) living mostly separate social & family lives in their secondary years, occasionally brushing by one another or crossing paths in the school grounds or the village shop etc. (with JP watching Craig with increasing interest every time, wondering why he's so drawn to this tryhard scrappy lad with the awful hair & dodgy accent), but never having a significant discussion or encounter until that fateful yellow-jacketed day in the empty classroom

This storyline was FORMATIVE for so many.
Aw man as a 13 year old gay boy watching this was truly eye opening and made me believe in love. I remember wanting this so badly before I had my first boyfriend. It’s a beautiful storyline and both Guy and James did so wonderful in their roles.

i revisit this storyline every couple of years, never gets old. Also every time I hear Razorlight too
CZcams’s algorithm pushed this into my feed at the start of the year and I quickly hunted down another few scenes - and before you know it I was OBSESSED. The chemistry these boys share Is electric- and they get some great scripts too.

Still love this storyline it is the storyline that truly got me hooked they were perfect for one another. I miss mcdean John-Paul has had so many disatarous relationships Ste he cheated and could of infected John-Paul with HIV Lockie Married to John-Paul Cousin Porsche he also slept with Mercedes as well George if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

Oh boy, brings back memories of when I first watched these two. My all-time favourite scene on screen no matter the movie or show is without a shadow of a doubt when JP confessed his love at Hannah's birthday. That scene ALWAYS breaks me down and gives me anxiety. It's so damn raw and real and hits really close to home. James Sutton is an amazing actor!

These were like the best years. I feel like the mid-late 2000's/Bryan Kirkwood years were the best era for Hollyoaks. So many good stories. So many good characters. I tried watching it just yesterday and it's nowhere near as good. The sets don't look real. The stories are so over the top. It's just a very different show. Granted it has been a long time since I stopped watching but I just can't get into it anymore.
Agree 100%. It’s really hard to believe the showrunner of the current Hollyoaks is the same man. I try so hard to watch Ste/John Paul/ James cuts but there is a spark missing even though I love Greg Finnegan portrayal of James. The new characters since 2016 beside only a few exceptions are so boring and there hasn’t been a family that comes close to the McQueen or the Dean. The reality is that Hollyoaks failed miserably at having a second Mcdean, you can see they tried to do the same recipe for Mitchell/Scott/Cleo with Mitchell being Craig 2.0 who hide himself behind a girlfriend and is really deep inside the closet, Scott is John Paul 2.0, the out and proud gay who try to force the down low guy to come out for him and Cleo is Sarah 2.0, the oblivious girlfriend and it just didn’t take.
I agree Amber. These were the best years in my opinion. I have stopped watching HO. I’ve watched John Paul & Craig’s storyline from the beginning September 2006, brings back good memories. I was emotionally invested and obsessed with McDean. I don’t regret it! Guy is doing very well in his career, I’m glad for him.

I watched these two on CZcams till the sunset leaving to Budlin and then i stopped as i pretened to be the only ending. Split them was such a shame.
As the French would say: (despite the fact you can marry a man instead of a woman today you know...) the atmosphere was ‘craignant’ - but there was no stereotype. It was like a requiem for a dream.
What does that mean?
‘Craignant’ in French means ‘fear.’ I think the programme being made 14 years ago reflected the times. You can certainly see many of the problems continuing today. The reaction of a girl getting so upset about a man having difficulty being honest about himself is a very sad thing to watch. I don’t think anyone should be fearful of being themselves. It was a well made programme. If people think the themes were not relevant to be aired in terms of encouraging two men to live one another; C4 can make more and more programmes about domestic violence instead. 2006-2008 seemed a much happier time than today in many ways. And I don’t like to say that because I don’t like to cling to the past.

Ofc I like John Paul and Craig to be together, it's a great love story, really realistic and clever storyline, it means so much to me. I hoped to be less realistic at the end, and to be together forever..., but it doesn't work like that. I did accept the end a bit. But Craig was such a good actor, it's sad seeing him leave for a reason or another.

Yes sometimes it doesn't work, but there has been times it has worked and even on the rare occasion, worked even better.
I love Guy Burnet but he will never come back to HO and it's a real shame that HO didn't have the strength and guts to do a recast of the Craig role to see how it would have gone down.
Which is why I never really believed them when they said they ask Guy if he would come back because if they had been serious about bring McDean back together as a couple, they would have taken the risk as they have done more than their fair share of recasting characters on HO themselves.
Just think they wanted to hook JP up with other men into flings and relationships.
Part of me now wished they HADN'T reunite them off screen when JP went to Singapore because it was always likely that JS was going to return to the role of JP McQueen so they would ultimately break them up again.
I'd still be up for a recast even now especially as I don't want to see JP go back to either Ste and most definitely James.
I don't know that it would work with such an iconic character - I feel like in Holly or Ollie's case it was fine, as people weren't that attached to the original actors/characters anyway. Plus most of his family are gone or killed off (bar Jack and Darren). Maybe Guy will agree to come back eventually when/if James ever decides to leave for a short guest stint, and they can leave together.

Come on you can't do that not only is Guy Burnet the only actor that can play Craig and not get immediate backlash but Mcdean chemistry worked because of the electric onscreen between James Sutton and Guy Burnet Mcdean doesn't work without them

I don't quite believe there would be as much uproar if the character of Craig was recast especially if they found a actor that JS/James had chemistry with. And it is a certainty that Guy will NEVER go back to HO because of his various acting career roles especially in the states.
I absolutely loved Craig and would have been against a recast when JP first came back to HO but now I'm not that bothered and would be interested to see if it would work and would HO have McDean as a genuine long term pair if they lock in a actor for the Craig role.
I just now think that ship has sailed for McDean and would say it would be ridiculous to write JP off for a third sunset ending for him with Craig if JS was to leave the role of JP again. Plus there doesn't seem there was any real interest from HO to bring back Craig as I'm not sure that they actually asked Guy if he was interested in coming back given that even I was completely aware that after 2008 he was done for good with HO and the character of Craig.
