My grandmother built a huge house like this. Walls made from 2x6's, everything went up 2 inches in dimension so instead of 2x4 it was 2x6, instead of 2x6 it was 2x8's and so on. It was built in 1952. I was in that house in an F4 tornado and all it did was take down trees in the yard and pull a few shingles off the roof but the house stood strong. The house has a brick and natural rock facade 8 inches thick as well. The house is still there 70 years later.
Little late now, but for others looking to build their own place, buy yourself some scaffolding and get off the ladders.. just a few sections can be a game changer… and much safer
Building a scaffold (wall blocks ,arms and legs would save a ton of time and the labor of ladder work when doing overhangs ,flatwork and gables. Takes little time and you load them with material needed and work comfortably and in position being able to walk instead of moving the ladder and going up and down 1000 times. Trust me, I know.
I’m sure! I just wasn’t sure how to do it, renting the scaffolding wasn’t an option as I’m working sporadically on the cabin (8 hours a week at most) so the only other option was to buy it but man, that stuff isn’t cheap!

I was curious why you put the harness on midway through the roof build and there's an older gentleman on the roof with you and he's not tied off. Hard to understand why unless it was just personal preference but clearly a lot safer for both of you to have rigging.
What are the specs on that nail gun? And the pressure equipment? Cause i keep on searching and in Brasil i cant find an answer that is below 400k and no one lends these. I miss the powder charge ones...
Compressor is from metabo, model is called “the tank” , nail gun is 21 degrees framing nailer from metabo. If you want more info, go scroll down my older videos, I did one that only talks about my compressor and nail guns
lol, yeah, I was scratching my head watching him put these big long boards up on the end of the gabled roof, only to bring a recip all the way up there and cut them to the proper length while hanging off the edge of the roof...

Young man I don't know what you do for a living but if it isn't building houses you missed your calling. Absolutely awesome.
Thanks a lot !

Nice !
If a developer had houses built this well they'd charge 2 mil a house. Top notch work!
Yep I wouldn’t be a good contractor 😂
Looks great to me, very strong construction!
this shack is never going to fall down ...... a nice gift for the future great great grand children
Ahaha exactly !
I like how you framed in the eaves that tied into your rafters.
Thanks !
Holy cow! This is probably the first time I’ve seen someone using safety gear on a roof!!
Yeah that one side of the cabin is like 14 ft from the ground, really did not want to find out how it’d feel falling there
I'm enchanted 🤔✌️! The quality is immediately visible. Respect
Thanks !
great job on your project thus far... for sure one of the best build/film jobs I've seen on CZcams ... great job...
Glad you liked it! Thanks !
Classic example of if you want something done right you need to figure it out and do it yourself
Thanks !

You’re probably right, I have been too cheap to invest a few grands in some scaffolding
Save the money and build when you can. Which it seems you’re more than capable of doing lol. Excellent job!
@@garrettgreen2872 thanks !

You're doing such an excellent job. Keep it up, bro.
Thanks man!
I know a professional when I see one, job well done 😎
👍 still my first ever cabin , thanks
Mad Carpentry Skills!
Thanks !
Great stuff..Sponsored by DeWalt maybe..!!
Lol I wish! That’d be nice
There is no way that build will fall apart. 😮
That’s for sure 😂
Great job!
Thanks!
Good Day Tristan ; Very good video I liked it alot . Maybe you can tell me, why is dowling always so expensive ?

Excelente trabajo
Thanks !
Curious as to the reason for spacing all of your plywood. I've never seen anyone do that before and never seen it mentioned in a plywood spec.
It’s for expansion and contraction of materials

Yeah, my dad did not play it safe !
@@TheDIYCabinGuy great build videos, i'm an engineer also and have a hobby woodshop but this is much bigger than any project I ever tackled.
@@brianb7388 thanks! It’s been a fun project!
It's been a while since I saw someone build a roof using rafters.
True, most people use trusses nowadays.
good!!!
Thanks!!

Why does everyone glue there floors and not there roofs?
You glue floors to avoid squeaky floors when walking on it. That would not be really needed for a roof.
Let me guess you're an engineer / construction worker
Structural engineer yes
Probably $300,000 in 2024.
Lol thankfully not !
Diyers do everything backwards

It’s all great but please please and please: safety first! Safety Harness and helmets for both of you on top of that roof! Great work though
Noted!
Здравствуйте. Крыша будет утеплятся?
Yes i did insulate it, I did a video about that
