Harlan High Schoolis having a track and field reunion this Friday Oct 14 during the football game with Lynn camp for all state title holders. Would you be interested in covering that? Best athletes in Harlan track history
I'm from big stone gap and used to run a Pepsi truck route in Harlan county and Hensley's was a stop! The owner, Mae is such a sweetheart. Always sent me on my way with a free sandwich and drink when I delivered there. I miss it
I spent every summer of my life in Wallis,Saylor Family. Coal miners. My family blood is old in them hills. I am now 70 and being there was the best time of my life
My mother grew up in that area and is buried near by. I still have a lot of family in that area and I do believe family owns or did own that store at one point. I visit some times (not as much as I’d like to) and always stop in to get a chili dog. You’re in good company down in that hollar. One of my most favorite places to visit. You HAVE to go to Santa lane and meet mountain Santa. My cousin mike started out in 1975 as Santa and delivered toys all over Harlan. He continued that tradition up until just a few years ago when he passed. Now his son Jordan carry’s the torch as mountain Santa. There’s a huge following being lead by a police escort as Santa delivers toys, food, clothing etc to the children in the area. Santa has a workshop down there on Santa Lane. Love my family!
crazy this popped up i just learned my ancestor was jesse brock, a rev war soldier who was paid in land and settled into wallens creek. he’s my 7th grandpa. my own grandpa was from Harlan, KY and relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio!
Excellent Video went by where my Dad and his Siblings grew Up! Then you have the Haywoods Family Oscar Haywood had his Trucking Company up in Wallins! Had the Kirkland Family also! Trains use to Go up and down Wallins into the Twila Coal Mines!!
I've been there years ago and still looks exactly the same! My daughter was about 8 at the time and her eyes lit up seeing all of that candy.. and yeah I believe we bought about $20 dollars in candy alone 🎉
Thank you for this video. My Grandparents lived there from the 1930's until the 1980's. The warmest memories that I have from my childhood are visiting them every summer. I would live there now if I could. God bless you both.
I heard Mrs Coyote talking about how she was raised in the mountains, and it got me to thinking (Which is something my daddy told me to never do !) We would love to hear the story about how the 2 of you met. Yall seem like the absolute perfect couple, which is mostly a rare thing anymore. I bet you have a fun story to tell about how you first got together.
Thanks so much for the very kind words! If there's anything perfect in our relationship it's my wife's tolerance for my craziness. We met at my wife's place of business, I was a regular customer there and I had my eye on her for a couple of months but I could not get her to even look at me and I tried all my best tricks and my heart was breaking because I fell in love with her the first time I laid eyes on her but when I was about to give up she finally noticed me. Right after that she told me she had just had a very, very bad relationship and she was afraid to get into another one but she had noticed me that first day also.
Thank you for driving through Wallins and shooting the video. I could see where my grandparents lived back in the 70's and where my cousin Mike (Santa Clause) Howard lived. Sweet memories.
Thank yall for these videos. I grew up in that area and i sure enjoy what yall do... About the canning lids young lady, theres none around this area either (north alabama south tennessee) like you I had to buy some jars just to can some tomatoes... When they get ready you got to run with it.............
My dad was raised in wallins, my mom still lives there, Shadie and Helen Caldwell. My parents home is the ol’Park Howard estate, also, the long grey building you passed heading towards the end of the road, is the Mountain Santa’s workshop, started by the late Mike Howard and still going by his son and many elves that distributes toys and gifts for thousands of mountain children every Christmas. The last left turn before the end of the road, takes you to the Henry Ford stone house, built by Ford. You are correct about Miss Mae, she’s a sweetheart, when my daddy was extremely ill with cancer, he had to have something from Mae’s place. My sons have to go to maes every time we are back home visiting. Thank y’all for the videos, makes being homesick a bit more bare able.
Mercedes Durham Daniel Chadwick lived and died in Wallins. Her Mother's mother Sarah Ella Daniel was Elizabeth "Bettie Helton. I don't know if you can manage anymore Cherokee rep than that.
You know Kevin, I've trained since I was a young child to eat like that and now I think I have finally achieved Olympic level eating! 🤣😆🤣 Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
This is Mary & Roy Martin- Mae Hensley is my Sister. She has a Wonderful Store in Wallins and you’ll not find a Nicer Person Anywhere. Great Video- Love ya Sis(MAE)
Your sister made us feel so at home in that little store it made us feel like we've been eating there our whole lives! We can't recommend enough that folks stop in there and try her cooking, it's really good!
Hi Ignited and Mrs Coyote!! Hope y’all are having a great day. Really love these going along for a days trip videos. Every time y’all stop for to eat I look the place up or find it on the map. Love your channel and the videos! Have a great day!! God bless!!
Have to leave Kentucky next month, gonna miss the people and beautiful countryside! So glad I found your channel, it will enable me to take a bit of it with me! Thanks guys!
Loved seeing video of Wallins Creek Ky. In town my Grandfather had a shoe shop right next to Mrs Hatmaker's Store and across the street was the post office. I was born there. Thank You for going there.
Love watching your drives to Eastern Kentucky towns. I never lived there but have always had a fascination for the mountains and the people. I just watched a vlog by VW Family Farms and the wife, Andrea was showing some canning lids she bought on line that are reusable. The company is called Harvest Guard . Andrea also demonstrated canning with them both pressure canning and water bath. She was not advertising them just passing on information to other canners. I don't know the cost of them, but they can be used many times so they might be worth it to you.
Great video Coyote's! Wallins creek is a beautiful little community, my father did a road job up there back in the 80's, I think they fixed a slide up there on the main road and redid part of the road. I rode up there with him and he showed me around, haven't been back through there in quite awhile. Great to see it again! That food looks awesome! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this lovely video showing the peacefulness and tranquility of Kentucky. Hope to move back there and get away from the city life. Love you all!
When you came across the bridge in fall-spring if you look up on the side of the hill is where my grandparents home sits. Cousins live in it now. Take a quick left to go to the road up the hill. This video brings back so many memories. My grandparents funerals were at the First Baptist Church you passed. I have good memories of Wallins Creek as it used to be called! Thank you all for this video!
Hey enjoy your CZcams channel I was just wondering if y'all was wanted by the police because you never show your face LOL I'm from Cumberland keep up the good work
Thanks! We're not wanted by the police but we are in the witness protection program! LOL🤣😆🤣 We're actually in some of our videos, you just have to watch real close.
The little mom and pop places are the most interesting because each one is slightly different...the food is better because it's not mystery meat or anything. Lotta small town hardware stores have canning supplies. I used to pick up canning stuff for my grandmother, and hardware/farm supply stores almost always had them.
Hi There, my family was born and raised in Harlan. Thanks for sharing everything from our hometown. My sisters are coming for a visit in September, do you have any suggestions for a place to stay in harlan. She was looking for air b&b maybe. Thanks again for what you do!!
