Hi - I use a system by RAM Mount. rammount.com
I put a link at the end of this comment to a video I made about the setup I use. It has links to everything on their website. Some of the items are also available through Amazon, and other companies have started making similar products too.
The only thing I'd add to my setup that they didn't have when I bought it is a vibration reducer. I use an iPhone, and Apple says engine vibrations can be bad for the camera system, so RAM came out with a vibration reducer to help with that. I had already used the mount for a year without it, and my phone is old, so I didn't care, but if I ever get a new phone, I would get the vibration reducer before using the new phone on the WaveRunner. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Here's the link to the video: czcams.com/video/JBzvO-5nLog/video.html

Nice! You're going to love it. Here's a copy of a reply I sent to someone else about the mounting system. I should probably make a video about it. Maybe this weekend since the weather is starting to get cold and we may not get out on the water.
The mapping system is by Garmin. It's an app called "Navionics," but I think they changed the app name to "Boating." Search for either one, and it'll come up. It's also available for Android. It is a subscription, around $20-something a year. I'm not a fan of subscriptions, but the charts (maps) are updated daily, and it's the same charts used on most GPS units from inexpensive ones to multi-thousand dollar ones, so I think it's worth it.
The mount system is by Ram Mount.
For the phone, I custom designed what I bought from individual components because none of the "default" configurations did what I wanted.
RAM Quick-Grip XL Phone Mount (RAM-HOL-PD3U)
RAM Diamond Ball Base - C Size (RAM-238U)
      RAM Tough-Ball with 1/4"-20 x .625" Threaded Stud - C Size (RAP-379U-252062)
RAM Double Socket Arm - C Size Long (RAM-201U-D)
One thing that happens is, if the ride is really rough, the mount will sometimes start tilting backwards or forwards even if it's cranked tight. I think when it gets wet from spray, the connection points get a little slippery, so it doesn't hold quite as tight as when dry. To combat this I ended up wrapping some electrical tape around the ball that mounts to the WaveRunner, and it worked awesome. The stickiness from the tape prevents the mount from moving at all.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hey, brother. The GoPro mount you have screwed into the 1/4-20 threaded slot on the port side, can I have the link for that, or, tyr in the exact brand, model etc? I’ve been looking for one of these for a long time now and my home made one wobbles too much: thanks in advanceđŸ˜ŽđŸ‘đŸœ

    • @MarkDHall
      @MarkDHall  Pƙed rokem +1

      Definitely. It's by Ram Mount.
The mount is PVC and comes unassembled, so you'll have to get some pipe cement to put it together. You'll also need to get a GoPro B Ball mount to attach the ball to the camera. I replaced the screw that came with it and used a regular GoPro type thumbscrew because you'll always be adjusting it to look sideways, down low, backwards, and you don't want to have to be wasting time using a screwdriver out on the water.
Then you'll need the C Ball to mount to the WaveRunner. The Yamaha website says a 1/4" 20 is what you want, but I felt the threads were a little short and went with the longest they offered - .625". Links to all are below.
It wobbles a lot, but the GoPro is amazing at keeping everything steady. The mount is also very durable and has held up to a lot of pounding and banging, but I'm always cautious and have a fear it could break at any moment, though it has shown no signs that will happen. I just checked all the glue points after using it a lot in the past 2-3 months, and everything is still super tight.
One thing that happens is, if you have a really rough ride, the mount will sometimes start tilting backwards or forwards at the big end that mounts the WaveRunner, even if it's cranked tight. I think when it gets wet from spray, the connection points get a little slippery, so it doesn't hold quite as tight as when dry. It's always super tight when we start off and then gradually starts tilting backwards. To fix this I ended up wrapping some electrical tape around the ball that mounts to the WaveRunner, and it worked awesome. The stickiness from the tape prevents the mount from moving at all.

Hi! I use the RAM system to mount my camera and phone. Basically, you mount a "ball" to the thread mount on the WaveRunner and then attach the rods/mounts to that. For the phone mount, RAM just came out with a "vibration reducer" this year, and I think I want to get that. The pipes for the GoPro mount weren't put together, and I had to buy some "PVC pipe cement" at a hardware store to glue them together. I have a link that goes into detail about the system and links to the RAM website. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can watch it here: czcams.com/video/JBzvO-5nLog/video.html

I used them once to put it on the trailer, but I didn't like that the power was constant. I couldn't "goose it" or let off the throttle to control my approach. Matt used it once in the ocean when were in a strong current to hold the ski in place. In forward w/out gas was too strong, but nothing caused us to drift backward. T.D.E. held it perfectly. Other than that, I don't think it's worth it. I would have rather had a trim adjustment on the VX level boats instead of this.
