  • Quick video on the basics of the IC-9700. It's pretty easy to use, but, some folks that haven't used an Icom before might get hung up on a few things. Hopefully this (and future videos) will rectify that!

    Thanks for this. I can get around my Flex 6400 & 991A, but ICOM 9700 is new to me and this video really did help me figure out how to do some of the basics.

    I have an ic9700 and an id5100. Possibly two of the most featured radios I have ever used, and very good for power-users. Great tutorial!

      I certainly plan on making more videos on it, simply because there's just so much to cover. For as expensive as it is, it's quite good value!

    Good job! Thanks! I'm just getting started with an IC-9700. This is very helpful.

    Do you still recommend the 9700? I see other radios but they're low power, not sure I wanna get a base station with low power output.

      Well, I would not recommend the 9700 for anything that doesn't need SSB or CW. If you do VHF/UHF weak signal DXing or work linear satellites, get a 9700; if you only do FM, get a Yaesu FT-2980.

    I want the ICOM IC-9700 for satellite decoding. But is it true the 9700 does not have enough bandwidth to decode 9600 baud signals? Thanks, CE4JDM

    • @hs-tc
      @hs-tc  Před rokem

      Unfortunately, yes. I've tried to get 9600 packet decoding (or digital voice signals) to work, but, the only way to do it is to set the USB IF/AF output to IF, then use a program like HDSDR to "tune" the IF, then put the AF output of that into the decoder program. For satellite decoding, I'd just use a normal receive-only SDR, maybe an RSPdx.

    I want to know what that song is in the very beginning. The first song with vocals.

      I pulled a random song off of a tape I had kicking around when I recorded the intro; I'm pretty sure it's Blunt Force Trauma by Gemini.
      Ahh, here it is: soundcloud.com/geminicluster/blunt-force-trauma-ft-knock?in=geminicluster/sets/teenage-alchemy

      It does. There is a button to the bottom-left of the dial that, when pressed, reads the frequency and mode off.

    Can it scan channels ?

    • @hs-tc
      @hs-tc  Před 11 měsíci

      It can, but, it's only good on the ham bands. The receiver has filters on it that filters out anything outside of the ham bands.
