  • In part 24 of the 2 month camping trip, I'm fishing a stream with a road that runs close to it making for somewhat easy access but that didn't slow the fishing down...big fish live in this small stream and they are crazy pretty! Near the end of the day I find a hole that was loaded with fish. Back at camp I ran into some locals who asked how the fishing was...I told them about my day on this stream and they were STUNNED. They COULD NOT BELIEVE I caught any quality trout from this stream. All they had ever caught were kokanee and 8 inch trout...this some statement has been made several other times as others recognize the stream from the video and private message me!
I was completely shocked my the landscape I found in Idaho, I felt like I was camping and fly fishing in a rainforest. The only thing prettier than the landscape were the native westslope cutthroat...the one near the end was stunning! But the craziest thing was watching ash fall from the sky at the end of the day. A video for the flies and rig is linked below.

But if you go into either place & tell them that you need some help learning & someone who is more experienced than you to help you, they almost always help. Also local fly shops are an excellent place to find a professional instructor, mine is K&K in Overland Park, KS. Many fly fisherman/women there that is willing to help you get better. I learned to cast on the football field of my local high school when I was 35. It just takes time & practice. Keep @ it. ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT. ..Happy Hunting.

Drew, another great video. Awesome stream with some very nice size and active/hungry trout. Love the fight that some of them gave you! Pretty much like you, I very much like to fish where others do not. I spend as much time as I can (which is a bit more now that I recently retired) fly fishing many locations in the CA Sierra as well as my home state of PA when I get back there to visit. Walking several miles or breaking through thick brush or crawling on hands and knees to get to a good spot is never a question but simply the journey and experience. Recently spent a week in NorCal mountains with a group of friends and just killed it with lots of wild trout (rainbows and browns). Most landed and released and a few that left just a memory and a reason to return again someday. Anyway....did have one Q for you? Do you have a fav app that you use for finding and navigating to some of these out of the way spots? I have looked at a few but not chosen any yet. Currently, I just use online maps and my instincts to guide me. thx, Jude

Thank u. No, like you I use maps and don't use apps. Might someday but I have more confidence in maps...always worried electronics will fail or need maintenance. I have a video on my channel, should be in the 7k mile playlist for this trip that covers how I find my spots. All I used for this series.

When I saw those fallen trees I was hoping there was a pool under there, that was amazing! getting those last few out was great to watch, thanks for sharing all of it! Will you ever share the areas you went? Just curious how far away some of those places are from us :)

Was a good day! There are clues in the series for those that follow the adventure. But probably won't specifically name an area for fear it'll attract the wrong type of person!

I've lived my whole life fishing water that looked like this, because I was born in Idaho. Watching the world react in awe in this comments section confirms just how special and rare these places are in the world. Please don't come to visit, and if you do, tread lightly.

Been seeing lots of beautiful cutties on your channel. I'm on the East coast and get up in the hills to chase brookies. Lots of fish, but that's not entirely why I'm there. Saw a deer give birth to twins while I was eating lunch. I guess she realized that it was now or never. I just chilled and went about my business, quietly. She did her thing while I watched. She got her kids hidden and went off to eat, or so I figured. I finished lunch, and backed out quietly. If I live to be a thousand, it will be among the top memories of my existence. This is why we do what we do.

Great CZcams on small stream fishing for trout! Huge cuts and rainbows for such a small stream with little pocket water. These look like stream-reared, rather than stockers (square tails). To me, this is what separates the men from the boys. Catching this quality of fish this close to a bridge. This had to be fished many times. You keep working areas where you suspect there will be at least one trout. Even very small pockets. And are rewarded. It's amazing how such a small stream can support so many large trout per acre of water. This is the type of fishing my Dad used to talk about.

    • @LooknFishy
