  • I used not be a fan of the Advanced Black & White option in most EPSON K3 printers.
    But times change and guess what??? I am now SOLD on this system for producing some of the best B&W prints I've ever made.
    I prepared this demonstration using the EPSON SC P800 using Precisioncolors PCK3HD inks and the results were.... see for yourself.

    Love your systematic and detailed tutorials, José! Keep 'em coming. (I'm an Epson user, by the way.)

    I always use abw when printing black and white. The default cool, neutral, and warm settings are designed for epson premium glossy paper. I do 4x6 test prints to adjust those values when i print with other papers. For example Epson abw cool setting is -8/-45. For Harman Gloss Baryta i dod some tests and -9/-53 is pretty close. The prints on the Harman paper in this mode are the closest to darkroom fiber prints i've been able to achieve. Beuatiful surface and with virtually no gloss differential.

    HI, I love your videos! Very helpful! I do have one issue that I wonder if you have any suggestions for. I have scoured the web for solutions to no avail. I have an Epson R2000. I cannot get consistant black and white prints from it. I've tried everything. Do you have any suggestions? I get a green or blue tint every time. I now know that the R2000 is not a good black and white printer, but I do print in both B&W and color. Thank you.

      It is not meant for B&W as it does not have grey inks. Only a custom profile for the paper you are using would diminish the slight green tint.

    Hi joe - Have you tried out the Advaned Black and White mode/driver on your R2000?

    Is the advanced black and white option still useful when you want to print using non epson papers like Hahnemuhle?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety

      I've tried some non Epson papers and it works perfectly well. If you get a slight non neutral rendition, you can adjust manually in either direction.

    Jose - quick question about changing ink on the p800. When an ink channel is getting low should you wait until exhausted to change it or change it before it gets exhausted?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety

      With OEM, wait till it is empty! Third party carts do not work, they do not reset so OEM is the only current option!
      But wait...... See my next video.

    Jose, if I created a sepia in Photoshop, should I let the printer still have control or Photoshop?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety +3

      If you tone it in Photoshop then you need to print it as a color image using either the driver to control color or Photoshop through an ICC profile and color management turned off in the driver. The driver will use all colors to co posits the tones. If you keep it as an untoned B&W then you can use ABW in the driver and will use mostly the blacks and grays plus a bit of some colors to help neutralize or to e the print.

    Qimage, is that some Epson software?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety

      No. Qimage is Qimage. It is a proprietary stand alone Image printing software to print and also edit and many other imaging functions

    What is an OBA?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  Před 7 lety +1

      Optical Brightening Agents. They fluoresce when light containing UV hits it and creates a whiter brighter base white point. Eventually they deteriorate and "burn off" and the paper returns back to what it would be like without the OBAs. It creates a false visual illusion. Most top quality art papers do not contain OBAs.
