Note: I'm not directly involved with this, but we've talked. Please don't nag them about a release date either. Support would be much appreciated though, as always. ^_^
Hi all!
I've finally decided to redo my old Rebirth videos, so I'll slowly be updating this playlist; the presentation is closer to that of my ToD2 vids and I have a better capture card now, so hopefully they'll look much better than my old 2007 vids. shudders
For those of you who are new, this is a playthrough of the Japanese PS2 game Tales of Rebirth (although I'll add some PSP-specific vids later), which is currently not available in English (thanks, Bamco!). I have added English subs to the videos for your convenience so that you can understand what's going on; in the stark few instances where I knew there was an official English translation for something (e.g. Force Adepts) I've incorporated them, but otherwise the translation came out of my head, for better or worse. I do my best to provide an accurate presentation of the game, but please be aware that a) I'm not fluent in Japanese, b) I have zero professional translating experience, and c) I'm a one person crew here (i.e. I do all the video capturing, video editing, sub timing, translating, and proofreading), so there will be mistakes, hiccups, ugly editing, you name it. That being said, if you notice any glaring errors, please do bring those to my attention. Suggestions are also welcome, but I'm kind of a stubborn asshole, so they may or may not be implemented.
Also, in light of previous feedback, I've changed the content of these videos so that they're closer to what you see in a Let's Play playthrough with a couple of major differences. First, I'm cutting out all grinding, menu surfing, and saving; I'm assuming that people have better things to do than watch this. Second, I WILL NOT be giving an ongoing commentary. If I need to convey something, I will use on-screen text or the video description. Third, I haven't quite decided on the random encounters yet, but I'm leaning towards keeping some but not all of them so as not to interrupt the flow of things too much. We'll see.
Oh, and if anyone cares, this is a fresh save this time around, so no Grade Shop purchases or anything; difficulty is set on Hard. I figured this would better represent what first-time players would experience. Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the video!
P.S. For those of you who are wondering, no, I haven't forgotten about ToD2. ^^;;
ToD:DC is in the air at the moment, so feel free to throw in your two cents. Keep in mind that Absolute Zero is already working on this one though and they have a much better track record than I do.
P.P.S. How could I forget?
Claire Count for this video=11
Total=11
We're going to get to the bottom of this, lol. I'm only counting the times that Veigue actually says her name, not the number of times it appears in my translation, BTW, although the numbers should be pretty close. - Hry
I'll just say one thing, Ianyn: I've never seen you, I've never met you and probably never will but one thing is for sure: I love you. XD
Thanks to you, I got to play Rebirth and Destiny 2, which I had pretty much given up on playing back in the day. Ya know, Japanese only and all that.
Aaand thanks to that, I now know all about Mao, who turned out to be one of my favorite Tales of characters ever.
I hope it doesn't bother you to reply to your comment when it's so old, but... where did you find Destiny 2? :( I get having a rom patch maybe if you mean that, but if it's like a walkthrough, than... both Destiny 2 and Innocence is something I can't find at all. :(
What's worse is that Destiny 2 was confused with THAT Destiny 2 a lot as well as a longplay claiming one version of Destiny 2 and Eternia are the same game, and Innocence is also confused with whatever the heck Plague Innocence is. ._. Sigh... so basically when I try to look up those games even with the full title of "Tales of: X (game)", half of the results is like that or some other unrelated Tales game. D: It sucks. T_T Sigh... so I'm really surprised there's even a sub playthrough of this... usually I can find Japanese translated games somehow, everyone knows stuff like Mother 3 is famous, but Tales games? I'm surprised to have found nothing even when some of them are really popular like Symphonia I think. :O
The best thing to come on my subscriptions list in years. Super pumped that you're back!
I could never thank you enough for this.
awesome! thanks for giving people who don't know japanese a way to learn about a super cool game!
Glad to see you again!
Oh wow, these new videos look great! Like hundreds (maybe thousands!) of others, I used your translation guide to play through Rebirth a few years ago. I can't thank you enough.
Welcome back! ^__^
I'm glad you're back!! Always liked your playthroughs!
+TrueNanaya
Thanks! There're no pesky time/file size restrictions this time around (God, it's been almost 9 years since I first started uploading O_o), so hopefully this playthrough will turn out better.
didn't even see this until now!..... WB
wow, didn't expect a comeback! thanks for uploading these :)
+Kerocola
Thanks! I'll try not to fall off the map again, lol.
AWESOME! You are still alive! What a relief!
Seriously, this is really nice to have some news from you! Tales of Rebirth is my favorite "Tales of" game, and it is because of you. Thanks to your translation, I could enjoy the story while playing it (The PSP version, since no region-lock).
It's been quite some times, but I was thinking of making a Website in a form of a Guide for this game (With Mobile Phone support of course). Mostly providing your translation of the story with a nice presentation and a walkthrough provided at the same time. I started it last year, but stopped to get better at Web Design before continuing. Now I'm more than ready! XD
Maybe it will be useless if a patch will eventually get released, but I'm having fun doing this little web app.
Anyway, I'm glad you are still here! ;)
Just finding the translation videos now. Please tell me you made you’re online guide?
Oh? Wow, welcome back! I had started playing ToR a while back and was using your videos alongside my own playthrough to doublecheck my own translations. Maybe it's about time I got back to it!
+ビネガーアウトウロア
Thanks! That's pretty cool that you're translating too. Good luck with that!
Good job lanyn this is a my favorite tales of series, the animation in this series is top notch
Thanks! I need to go through and update these....one day. I said that, like, 5 years ago too, lol
Dang it's been a while! It's so awesome to see you back on here! This is looking great btw! the last time I've actually watched a playthrough of this game was back when you were still uploading for it haha Now is a good time to get back into it!
+KratosBlueAngel4
Thanks! And yeah, another reason why I'm doing this is to respark some interest in Rebirth, so one mission accomplished. ^^
Oh man, time to gas up the Claire counter again. Boy I wish the patch effort hadn't died out, but at least I had your effort to let me understand this fantastic game. Nice to see it again.
+gtf234
Thanks! And yeah, I'm quite curious to see what the Claire Count's gonna be, lol. As for the patch, I'm hoping that they'll pick it back up again when they're ready, but at the same time, I totally understand that sometimes it's just too much to handle. This game really has some of the best fans out there though, so best of luck to them regardless of how things turn out.
4:51 Eugene: "I likes ya and I want ya. Now, we can do this the easy or we can do this the hard way. The choice is yours."
Veigue: "Leave me be."
Eugene:"Okay. I see you're choosing the hard way."
Lol, well, Eugene was in a hurry, so we'll just blame it on that. 😅
Good to see you're back in action. To be honest, I totally forgot I was still subscribed to you.
+Crossplay
Thanks! And I really don't blame you for forgetting. I was expecting an empty subscriber list when I finally logged back in, lol.
Well that was the most eventful game opening I've ever witnessed lol
Thank you!
Love this series. Finally a way to check what Tales of Link *winkwinknudgenudge* is all about...
Can't wait the Translation project for Tales of Destiny Director's Cut

Request noted. Thanks for the feedback!
Wow, it's been so long!
+Light
I know! Long enough it's kinda embarrassing, but I'll deal with it, lol. ^^;;
Awesome
+J^P
Thanks!
Veigue Lungberg Force of Ice and That Reminds of Jin Kisaragi Frost Bite From Blazblue and This Video is Awesome
Is there an English patch for the game or this is video edited subs??
Kureaaaaaahhh!!!!!
This opening alone made me buy this game 😂😂💯💯💯
Oh my gods and zonkers, it's you! You've returned! :D
Yeah, it's a shame Rebirth never got localized. It was such an intense Tales title and still has the strongest racism/discrimination vibes running through it, more so than any other title to date.
Good to have you back. I have to say your translation is actually quite spot on from what I know of the story and you have Mao's childish mannerisms down quite well in his speech patterns. : )
+Flegan777
Yep, I'm still alive, lol. I was secretly hoping against all odds that Bamco would announce a localization of at least 1 of the PS2/PSP era titles while I was taking care of life, but no luck there I see. I'm really glad that they've picked up most of the recent stuff though, especially Graces f.
Thanks for the feedback on Mao too. Making the dialogue more character-appropriate (is that a real phrase or did I make that up, lol) is one of the things that I was trying to fix.
lanyn Yeah, they'll never attempt to do it. The older Tales titles are no longer fair game, though some keep wanting to see PS3 Vesperia or Wii Graces get localized (and I'm not really sure why). As for the rest, the Tales boom has been going on pretty well since the huge silent gap following 360 Vesperia. It's great they localized Graces f, Xillia, Xillia 2, Hearts R (though the English script has been called into a lot of question due to some rather extreme liberties taken with some characters' dialog) and Zestiria (which sadly didn't impress me much and was very unwieldy to play, but that's only my opinion). And of course, we're hoping the upcoming Berseria improves upon Zestiria's rather rushed production.
You're welcome. That's often the biggest challenge of translation, so it's a completely valid concern. I'm sure it's tough on localizers when they think of what they want a character to say in English without losing the original feeling or context of the phrase (and the how falls on the voice actors, who do their best based on what material they're given).
+Flegan777
You know, the only reason why I'm holding on to hope is because I saw what happened to Earthbound. I almost choked when I first heard the news that they'd be re-releasing it again and I've never even played it before (it's on my bucket list...maybe after I retire, XD). Yeah, I know, situation's a bit different (e.g. it was already translated into English), but I can dream, right? ^^
Unfortunately, I haven't played Hearts R yet because I'm still Vita-less, although I have heard complaints about the translation. It's funny because I finally get my wish about getting more Tales games localized and I have yet to finish anything past Graces f due to time constraints or whatnot. First world problems, I know, lol.
lanyn I can totally understand that, but it seems like a Nintendo trend. I can't imagine it being something Namco would do.
I can relate. Since I seem to buy almost nothing but RPGs, I have to find a way to squeeze in time for all of them. I also have no Vita either. As for Hearts R, the issue stems from how the localization just seems to go off and do its own thing (and because the English script doesn't align with the Japanese only voices, it's very ill-fitting). It's a damn shame Hearts R wasn't dubbed because maybe that zany English script might have worked better with dub voices. Not to mention the artes names they went with; they essentially either sound nothing like what the character is doing in battle (Dirt Bath?) or they chose to use yet another new name for a sometimes consistent naming scheme for an arte we've seen in localizations with the same established name before.
yay I miss you
+Sonicfalcon16
Thanks! It's good to be back, although I feel really bad given how long it's been. My life's more stable now though, for what it's worth to you guys!
Years passed and i still don't understand what happened at the beginning.
Me: Oh hey! An English subbed playthrough for the game that's nice!
Also me: *Only uses it for the animated cutscenes/scenes without any on screen text and still continues to use her phone to translate everything else*
Lol. I do that too sometimes, if that's any consolation.
Hope you make a video when they finish the patch @_@ keeping up to progress there is really hard.
+Munsu
Sure, I'll be happy to as long as they don't mind (which I doubt they will, but you never know).
huzzah. welcome back. but can I ask if destiny will still be a thing? I've been waiting soooo long.
+MrZyrno
Thanks! As for ToD:DC, I have decided to continue with it, although priority will be given to ToD2. I'm still a bit hesitant about overlapping with AZ, but I guess I can just take down my stuff once they finish and problem solved, right?
+lanyn I trust you all the way. either way :-)
Lenyn you are the best person in the world
Thanks, although I don't deserve that degree of praise just for this. ^^;;

+ZappaSlayer666
^_^
cannot open the link, bro
Damn, why is this one apparently Japanese only? :( So far at least, it seems to be one of the most enigmatic ones in particular, and that's... interesting. :?
Is there a english menu patch anywhere? i been searching for ages and im lost... This is the tales game i wanted to play for years but got lost and couldnt read any help
As far as I know, there isn't one right now. Stormyu is working on a full English patch right now, but it's not done yet (they're at 80%).
@@lanyn that's amazing progress ! Ty
How did you get this game in English I thought it was only in Japanese
Those are not in-game text boxes. I recorded the gameplay and manually added English hard subs on top of the original Japanese text. There is a group (or maybe more than one group? I get confused) that's currently working on an English patch for Rebirth, but I believe it's still in the works.
Can I nag now?
I'm afraid to ask, but sure, go ahead, lol.
how did you download the english patch????
There is no english patch, he editted his recordings and made all these translations.
