Old gas, left outside 5 months, cranked right up. I’ve been on the fence about a lawn tractor for awhile. You and husqvarna just sold me on their product. Thank you!

Well I'm glad you saw it the way I did instead of lecturing me like others have lol. I swear, some people treat their mowers better than their car...

I have the exact same lawn mower. My not so smart neighbor couldn't get it to start so he took some of it apart, got frustrated & then pushed it (in pieces) out by the street. He put a sign on it that read,, "garbage, take it for scrap." Long story short, I inflated the four flat tires, & pushed it home. One hour later I had it running & in three hours it was all back together again. It is a good mower, however, its once rough life is behind it as I take very good care of it. :-)

    A few points....
People are giving you crap for leaving it outside and I can both see it and at the same time think they are going a bit harsh on you. It's not as protected as it should be, but I saw the tarp in the other video... if you keep it covered (and keep the cover securely attached)... it's as good of protection as my mower gets. Mine is in my unheated basement. Not good to just let water pour all over it... just keep the tarp on it nice and tight :)
As far as the break in oil change, and other "servicing".... again while I somewhat agree, I think they are being too harsh. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised when you said "I need to do an oil change on it" as I know a LOT of people don't change it at all. I even had one family member tell me, you don't need do oil changes on lawn mowers... ok. Sure. Anywho.. yeah you should have done the break in oil change, but it's not the end of the world. If your machine has grease fittings on the wheels, make sure you grease em... same with deck spindles. The rear end in that lawn tractor is probably sealed and can't be checked or the fluid changed... unless you mow on hills or pull anything with it, that shouldn't be a problem.
A couple of pointers about that briggs and stratton intek V-Twin engine (my tractor has the same engine.... just made 15 years ago)...
Check the oil level every single time you ride that machine. Yours is new, and likely if you were to have a problem it wouldn't be for many years. But the machines are not tolerable to low oil levels and they love to have the main oil sump gasket go bad and start leaking... again, maybe they revised that gasket... maybe not. Even if they didn't, you might not have that problem for some time. My tractor is now 15 years old (I've only owned it for 3) and my sump gasket is still fine and not leaking. This engine is just not forgiving of being run low on oil.... check it every now and then. Change the oil at least every other year or 100 hours... whichever comes first. If yours has an oil filter on it, you can upgrade it to an automotive oil filter. My own intek V-twin accepted a motorcraft FL-400S filter. $3 at walmart and over twice the capacity and filtration media of the original filter for half the cost.
The valves like to come out of adjustment, more specifically the lashing.... every two or three years you should pop off the valve covers, take a set of feeler gauges, and set them both to about .005 for both intake and exhaust on both sides of the engine (2 valve covers, 4 lashings to adjust). When they come out of adjustment... they can bend or break a push rod. The engine might also really pop / surge or struggle to turn over when they are out of adjustment.
The other flaw is that the engine is not forgiving of crap being sucked past the air filter, or a dirty air filter. Earlier versions of that engine had an inferior air filter bay / lid setup that would allow junk to get sucked past it. Mine was actually new enough to be the "corrected" style, but still keep it clean swap it out every few years.
One last thing known to really do that can keep this thing from dying.... keep the cooling fins around the engine clean. There are quite a few bolts to take out, but the shroud around the engine comes off and you can clean off all the metal fins on the block. You shouldn't even need to take the hood off the tractor to get the shroud off, but you may find it a lot easier to just take the hood off. Otherwise these things overheat pretty fast and the extreme heat will cause the valve guides to come loose.... not a good thing.
It's a few extra hours of work each season.... all the stuff I've mentioned, but on a "big box store" residential grade lawn tractor like this one (and mine) it's the difference between this thing failing in 300-500 hours or 1000-1500 hours. If your yard is flat, and you keep up on it.... that tractor should last far longer than most consumers get out of their big box store tractors (meaning not from an actual dealer). But then again, most people wouldn't do or think about even 1/3 of what I talked about. I self educated very quickly, as my $300 tractor (MTD Yard Machine w 46" inch deck) had to last me quite a while. I didn't have a lot of cash, and got tired of spending 6 hours mowing my lawn with a push mower. Being 300 pounds and having a steep and hilly back yard sucks..... even my front yard (which is half of the one acre) is no walk in the park on a hot summer day. So, I figured... gotta get this thing in top shape and keep it in top shape. Unfortunately, I'm asking too much out of my current machine... that rear end is just being punished by my steep back yard. I need to find a good deal on a used garden tractor that needs some love.
Best of luck with your tractor! Hope it lasts you a long time.

Thank you for taking the time to write all of that; one of the longest comments I have recieved for sure and I read every word. I work on cars constantly and have worked on bikes and atv's in the past so I'm familiar with the maintenance that you are wisely recommending. Also, good tip about the automotive filter. I have mowed with it twice so far this season and it still fires right up. I'm amazed that the factory battery still has power now on my 3rd season after sitting all winter. But I'm sure since it has a 3 year warranty, that it'll crap out on me next year lol. Only problem I have encountered is one of my front tires keeps going flat. A few others have said this is a common problem on these models, but I mow over a lot of brush and thorns so it's probably my fault. Also my steering has gotten a little sloppy but it wasn't great since day one, being a department store mower. But it still fires right up and cuts 3 seasons in so I can't complain for $1800. I haven't even had to replace a belt yet and I mow some really tall grass with it more often than I should because I usually only mow every 2 weeks.

I have a Yard-Man riding mower with a 42-inch deck on it that I bought in 1994 and it still runs great. I change the oil once a year. I keep it in a garage. when not being used. I cut grass for money. I got 5 yards I cut once a month. My lawnmower is just an old cheap Walmart lawnmower. You take care of your lawnmower it will take care of you.

That mower will last a lot longer if you clean it before you store it for the winter. Leaving the grass and dirt on it will just make it start rusting prematurely.
