    I served 15yrs at this Leeuwkop maximum, I obtained my matric here, 3yrs national diploma in HR as well as BA in philosophy, politics and economics through Unisa

    it's great to see the DCS portraying such an active role in the holistic indictment of otherwise unproductive individuals. Great initiatives. I'm proud to pay my taxes and contribute towards such actions. I employ mostly ex inmates and I don't regret it.

    Free training ,but the law abiding ppl can't afford to send their kids for any training ,what a mess

      Damn… that’s actually a really good and insightful point. It’s a catch 22 really. I mean you HAVE to have hope that prisoners won’t come out worse or equal to when they went in.. so free training needs to be accessible. But what to do about the other law abiding citizens…?!

      "It's their right". What type of nonsense is that. Sends the wrong message. You go to prison to get privileges you wouldn't get for being an honourable citizen😆. Even when they get out, who's going to want to hire a convicted felon????

      Yet it is very inhumane for us to not give people a second chance. Many of those people are there because poverty lead them to it and giving them a second chance is the best we can do for them.

    Its called Correctional Service Centre coz its supposed to correct people. It does correct other and also makes others worst. We know how bad crime can be but look at that boy, u mean he must die there or serve his time without any education or skills? Then he gets out years later without anything what are the chances he will do crime again to get a living, 99%. So why can't they study n get skills. Let's not be heartless n dumb like they were adawise we no different to them.

    What a difference between this prison & the Kgosi Mampuru prison, which is in a terrible state of disrepair along with many hazards such as leaking water right beside electrical wires, this place is a haven compared to it!! I live in South Africa & have driven by this prison many times & always wondered how it was on the inside, now I know!

    I have to wonder when a criminal in prison says 'I'm rehabilitated'🤔. Why is the govt not sorting out the gangsterism it makes them not rehabilitable. It's a way of saying continue your criminality behind bars.

    Somw of them have belts on. Big mistake, with a belt you can strangle someone or tie the belts together to form a rope. I live near this prison in kyalami and the entrance is wide open it just has a boom and a few guards and the one guard tower has a smashed window.

    South Africa law says you will be offered a free education, free housing, free food and degree when you commit a crime and get sentenced. Without jail no free education and no benefits lol

I guess it's better to stay away from bad crowds because you could be part of a group but your friend does the crime but you get arrested

      Yes they must pay for the crime's but it's also important to help them and change to be a better person so when they leave the prison they don't go back they pick them selves up and have a new life most of these people that go back to prison is because they refused to be help and to be a better person so I think what they are doing is good
