In my kitchen which was very similiar in style i took the old lower cabinet, and integrated them in my own style. Almost ten years after i m still happy with it. Sometimes good solutions are not as far away. And someone should look after sustainability.

Wow! Looks great! I would continue the updates with painting the doors in hallways and the brown trim around them... as well as the window wood moldings! Renovation always makes the other areas of the house that might feel tired and needing a brightening just reveal themselves. I fix something and then say... I need more!
Y'all totally transformed Nathan and Ashley's kitchen! It looks AWESOME! I really like the placement of the stove and refrigerator and the surrounding cabinets and especially the mouldings. The back splash is pretty too. At first I did not like the Chevron pattern on the island, but when it was completed I had to admit that it is really beautiful! It is the focal point. Really nice. I was wrong.
Looks amazing! Kudos to your sister and brother-in-law for dealing with a big reno with a baby. We moved with a 6 month old, and have completely renovated our house in the past 6 months. It isn't easy. We stop while the baby is napping. Some days I had to go for long walks to get out of the dust. Plus with the pandemic, there are less places to just go when you want to get away from the renovation.

It amazes me how quickly you can pull down walls. Our walls in the UK are bricks and mortar, so it’s a heck of a lot more work. I’m just re-doing our kitchen on a budget. I managed to find four tall cabinets on eBay for only £13! They’re exactly the style and size that I wanted. I am going for white on top and blue on the bottom. Thank You for sharing such a beautiful transformation. It really does look stunning!xxx

I'm not going to lie, I rarely like transitional, but you two really pulled it off. The kitchen matches the rest of the house well from what I can see, and it's a really nice mix of old and new elements with the dark cabinets, subway tile, the bar stools and the lamps.

I love the top of your island. Everything looks nice. I would have used the long pendant light over the island, and put a round one over the round table. I also would have reversed the white and dark to white bottoms and dark tops, only because the appliances are white, and mostly on the bottom. Everyone has their own style, not saying one is better than another.

I always love your work and this is a huge improvement. I personally would not go for two coloured kitchen but this is a personal taste. Great job removing bulkheads - I have that in my early 80s kitchen and it will have to go. I'll use IKEA system as they have a rail you put on the wall so it is nicely lined up, and also you can switch the faces if you get tired. The only think I feel is a miss is that island: it is not helping with the flow, and it creates crowded feeling. It should have been done perpendicular to the current placement. Also not crazy about the chevron desktop as again is the third element / colour and it does not fit. It looks like a floor :( Again, personal taste. But your brother should count his blessings to have you in his life. And so great that you are a Canadian! p.s. Beautiful handles and beautiful faucet! Did you also get them at HD?

Hampton Bay has very bad reviews and the laminate starts to peel rather quickly. Quality-wise is about half of IKEA. With IKEA you have ridiculously long warranty and also if you ever get tired of it, you can just buy new faces, and have the entire renovation for under $1000. Also IKEA is cheaper, so no brainer. The only advantage Hampton Bay line has is that is preassembled.
