Because people wish for peace only in their close yard and only in their own terms. So, they tend to impose rules and drag unto the surrounding ones their egocentric desires.

fun fact the USSR during the cold war built a war plan called 7 days to the rhine by the title it self gives you the idea what it was about and the soilders 1:04 to 1:09 are the soviet troops training for war
Thats a pretty ambitious plan for that timeline even if it was a suprized attack.
I'm not sure they can reach that in that timeframe even if they went 100% unopposed.

The troops at 1:09 are Finnish. Although, true to the likely timeline, FDF most likely would have been incorporated into Soviet rule, had the cold war gone hot.

@@danielwest2421 that was just an exercise not a plan, from the late 70’s too so before the most modern stage of armored warfare in the 80’s, and escalation would have been dependent upon the events that set it off. The Soviet’s knew nuclear weapons were suicide, so the _main_ idea was a blitz with thousands, iirc tens of thousands strong tanks/armored vehicle horde, and at the time their tech wasn’t completely inferior. NATO’s standing armies were tiny by comparison, overrunning them quickly would prevent vital mobilization of reserves in theater and enough reinforcement to matter from the US.
It may be questionable in hindsight for logistical or competency reasons, but the very real fear thru all of the west was that continental Europe would be overrun by sheer numbers, and industrial might. It’s more likely they’d have failed, but the real danger lay in the eastern bloc’s inflated belief they could win causing them to act more aggressively and set something spiraling off into an escalatory mutual exchange. Luckily their more reasonable leaders recognized that using nuclear weapons against other nuclear powers to force/scare them into giving up before even retaliating at all is ridiculous.

Great video but I couldn't help to notice that some clips in the timestamps between 1:11 and 1:12 (the one with the soldier with the MG and the Centurion tanks advancing with planes flying over) were from a Swiss military propaganda film called "Wehrhafte Schweiz / La Suisse vigilante / La Svizzera vigilante" (three different languages because they are all official languages in the country), link : czcams.com/video/mXWUCmeUF9o/video.html
I would really appreciated it if you referenced it in the description because it's a really good film showing the insides of the Swiss Army and Air Force but also because if you notice, the clear "pretending-to-be" enemy look very much like Soviet soldiers, and so do their mock tanks, implying that, although neutral, Switzerland still considered the East as the enemy. They also show a lot of bunkers and underground stuff that is relevant to this video's theme of nuclear warfare. I hope this info is interesting and new for those reading this c:
I am both fascinated and horrified by the power and beauty of atomic weapons. Worst part is probably the radiation though, because it covers a much larger area and will kill you horrifically.

War is inevitable and Nuclear war will likely occur one day. The way things are going at times, i wouldn’t give a shit if it occurs.
To those whom say Nuclear Weapons should be banned, id tell em to stfu as they’re a big deterrent and even a weapon of such power isn’t always detonated for the power released by one, its the country’s knowledge of one that gives the weapon power even if not detonated. They’re beautiful acts of pure destruction and remain a favourite to those whom find them interesting and a hobby of sorts.
About a 75% chance this'll be how this century ends.
