      As I’m watching your video for second time I’ve notice you guys always fight with hoses in the way lol try putting compressor on other side of roof and run hoses from top down and if possible you can run the excess in vent hole. Pull on hose to get extra when needed and toss extra in by flicking it as if it was exercise rope if ya know what I mean. Plus it’s a lot quieter

    I spent the entire week tearing off the roof, hauling materials on the roof, watching videos to make sure I was doing things right.
    I was so damn tired and sore after a week! I am sure an inspector would find faults. But after a year and a half, I have had no leaks or problems.

      @alafrosty Před 3 lety

      @@NWIVeteranConstruction I have no idea what that "cat's shadow" comment was supposed to mean. If your foreman didn't get the message about your expectations for the job, then that's on you. Your whole "teaching them a lesson" premise was flawed and the fact that you made this video clearly implies that you didn't take their lesson to heart. You need to sit down with someone who understands business management and try to learn how your current policies and practices are working against your aim at becoming more profitable. This evidently isn't something that you're going to learn when it's literally occurring right in front of you, or when you're spending your time watching your guys nail down shingles. Nobody is saying you're not a good roofer or that you don't ensure quality work. But you will improve your business operations by learning about how efficiencies aren't accomplished by simply working longer hours.

    Ive watched a few of your videos and learned a lot. Ive helped roof under a dozen houses in my life. I appreciate all the info you are putting out ,so I can hopefully roof my house in a couple months. You’ve got a great work ethic and that will eventually carry over to your guys. Something that was lacking in leadership was a failure to set expectations. They should have known in the first 20 minutes on the first day of working for you how long they were expected to work on a job, whether you were there or not. Another thing that could help you bring your crew up to speed is not trying to get your young guys to go for speed and to teach them slowly with all the correct nuances off the bat. Set expectations for quality first and then for speed once you are 100% sure quality will be met whether you are there or not. Don’t rush the finer points of your teachings. Spend a little less time showing your guys how fast you are and a little more time patiently showing them how you expect things to be done. You will be slower on your jobs for a few months. In the long run they will catch up with speed you hope for, and they will appreciate you taking the time to teach them. You will have less headaches. It only takes one big headache to ruin months or years of what you have built. They respect your skill already. As others have said in a few of these posts, they do not respect you as their boss yet. Its never too late to have that expectations meeting. Cover safety, work hours, equipment, conduct at the job site, etc. Make sure everyone is there at the same time. Ask them if theres anything they have questions about or need you to show them on the job. And then teach them with your full attention.
    Just part of the Quality Clinic Video after this one. If you did that where you observe and provide feedback on every roof with your guys for 20 minutes to an hour a day I believe the benefits would come back to your business in spades. With no tools in your hand as a boss.

      The best ways to try to keep guys like that moving is;
      1. (Find)/Hire a new man to be their boss. one who can outwork, motivate them all and STAY at work while caring about the company as much as you.
      2. give them incentive with free lunch (on site), or bonuses more in-line with piece work.
      3. stop being the nice boss and give them clear expectations and an ultimatum: Complete your work at xx-xx specified hours, or find a new job.
      4. Spend enough time training them to perform at the expected level.

Moving a 300 lb china cabiney alone with skids or passing or using a carpet dolly to move 100 yards rolls to cut in the driveway etc. Seems better to me now than paying an unmotivated, disrespectful person that does not care about your business.
