    New Zealand is not at all eco friendly. It has one of the highest per capita greenhouse gas emissions in the world. 2/3 of rivers here are unswimmable due to industrial scale agriculture. In the matter of a century European colonisers/settlers deforested a third of the country. I could go on, but I don't think I need to. What NZ and particularly the NZ govt is good at is greenwashing, particularly with the now longstanding "100% pure NZ" campaign. The government at the cost of NZ citizens, prepares marketing material making NZ look green free of charge for farmers. Anyone, even whoever is reading this comment, can access this material for free. You might even have been convicted of environmental crimes, but you can still use publicly paid for greenwashing material. And this channel is not alone in having fallen for the greenwashing, I know many intelligent people overseas who have as well. Please just stop repeating this myth, because it is letting NZ off the hook while it destroys earth's natural resources. The earth is one system so everyone loses when there are freeriders. International pressure could change this

      In fact the sentence about eco friendly New Zealand should sound sarcastic and is there to show difference with reality.

      should we replant the trees and start living on carbon credits 😅. the fact that we arnt overpopulated is something we are doing right for now. per capita is a clever way to ignore the pollution coming out of asian factories, not really solving anything by focusing on that, going on about European colonisers while sitting using their technology nice one 😂 maybe you'd prefer living in a 3rd world country

      And one of New Zealand’s most important sources of income is agriculture, so any government would be killing the economy by going for a substantial eco friendly approach.

    I get why they scrapped the trolleybus network, due to the routes being quite outdated and the routes needing their route updated badly but they couldn't because they say that it'll cost a fortune to literally rewire the entire network because all of the routes were outdated and it needed at the time the network also needed the infrastructure (but not the buses themselves at the time) to be replaced and sadly it gose to show how wellington wasn't suitable to a trolleybus network, due to how much the population got more bigger in different areas resulting in the most populated areas changing to other places and it's even sader that a trolleybus network might work in Auckland

    The only reason you pick electric over trolly if you live in an earthquake prone area like japan or in certain area not kill the whole trolly system

    • @cityforall
      @cityforall  Před rokem +9

      But seismicity does not prevent Japan from having an excellent electrified railroad. So I don't think this is the reason.

    What a idiotic choice. Since they still have the trolley's they should really think about putting back up the wires.

  • @alexanderjefferies7740
    @alexanderjefferies7740 Před měsícem

    As a Wellington resident, if I remember rightly it was not only because the routes were outdated, but the entire electrical system would have required replacing because of how old it was, and additionally, having taken trolley buses a lot when they ran, they were extraordinarily inconvenient and unreliable because the electrical things came off the railing very frequently and the bus couldn’t run aside from a bit of fuel to be able to pull over, and the driver would have to get out and manually fit the things back on.

  • @Michaelengelmann
    @Michaelengelmann Před rokem +1

    I really don’t get the difference between trolley buses & trollies. Both are hooked up to wires for power so they rly can’t go anywhere w/o their power source. (Well, not wires but rails)

      Or, as I see from pictures at Google trolly is a old tram. It goes on rails, while trolley bus goes on rubber tires like a usual bus.

      Tired trolley bus climbs hills and mountain road better, i think

    • @kubaszymkowiak
      @kubaszymkowiak Před rokem +3

      I think what he's asking about is the distinction between a tram and a trolleybus funcionality-wise.
      Well, trams are simply better:
      1. They tend to have bigger capacity (often 2x much as a bus) thanks to driving on rails and not requiring the driver to pay that much attention while taking corners.
      2. They're more comfortable as they run smoother.
      3. They're more energy-efficient.
      4. They can accelerate way better.
      5. Their lifespan is infinitely longer. Rarely do you see buses older than 10-15 years as they are really worn-out while in Sweden or Switzerland, there are often trams in operation that are over 50 years old and they're perfectly fine.
      6. They don't have tires so they don't pollute the air that much and don't require changing those every two years or so.
      There are of course some advantages of choosing trolleybuses over trams:
      1. They can run more difficult routes through narrow streets.
      2. The construction of the system and addition of new routes is way cheaper.
      3. It is also faster so the passengers don't have to wait that long for the new routes to open.
      4. It can be significantly more flexible as many trolleybuses do have a battery on board and can change routes or run short stints through areas without the overhead wiring.

      in some cities like Solingen or Eberswalde the trolley busses also have small batteries. They charge while connected to a wire and have a battery range of like 20 km for going off wire.

      That happens in my city (Córdoba, Argentina). In those rare cases, the driver (female drivers here, btw) get off the trolleybus and re-engage the poles by climbing on the built-in ladder. Then, they proceed with the driving.
