My home town :) My GG grandmother arrived at Wellington on board the ship "The London" in 1842 so my roots are firmly ingrained in that city. I no longer live there but I still think of it as home. As a kid I attended the opening of the bucket fountain in Cuba Street in 1969!
Amazing! It’s probably changed a lot in that time
My home town too, well Lower Hutt anyway. Left in 1985, been back a couple of time but don't recognize it anymore.
@@thesollys9540 Well Lower Hutt for me too actually... 1956 until 2002 :)
@@Scottygirlnz where are you now?
@@victortarroni Auckland... but we motorhome so travel around the country all the time! We were in Lower Hutt the other week and I had a look at my old haunts.
I am sure you have already but the cable car up to the botanic garden is awesome. what we do is cable car up, and walk down. So much history to see on the walk too.
Love the cable car!!
Would love to see another video of Wellington. I left 40 years ago to live in Australia but still call Wellington my home town. I love coming back and exploring.
Consider it done Heather 🙏🏼
which city you live in now and lets say if you had a choice now which city in OZ/NZ would chose?
My home town! Looking more gorgeous than ever!
Karori cemetery is a fascinating visit. It’s also absolutely beautiful surrounded by bush and full of birds. A great way to learn more about the people and events that shaped the town.
New Zealand is always one of the best countries of the world. Thank you for showing us all these beautiful places💥💥
So beautiful capital city! Delicious food! Thanks for sharing! Enjoyed to the end👍
I would love to see more of Wellington! Thank you for this video! It would be great to see hikes and nature walks nearby.
Subscribe and stay tuned. More on the way!
Thanks Alex! 😎
Love the cool vibe of Wellington
Such a beautiful place on NZ 🇳🇿
beautiful and wonderful cityscape Thank you so much Greetings from Japan
Thank you! I can't wait to get back to Japan this year!
Another video of Wellington would be awesome!
Consider it done ✅
I planned to visit New Zealand on 2020 but covid hit the world.... So Putty I couldn't make it until today... Hope also flights get more affordable to flight to Wellington.... It's a unique country with an amazing nature and culture... 😍
I keep following my dream and some day wishes came true ☀️
When I visited NZ several years ago, I decided that *should* I ever win the lottery and be able to pick a place to move to, it would be Wellington. A civilized yet adventurous vibe, all the comforts, a reasonable and rational approach to governance ...and the climate! Perfect. Now, just gotta win the lottery so my dream can come true!!! You lucky people, you!
Hmm. Interesting take on the climate.
I’m from there and I don’t mind it. But it is the biggest complaint I hear from people.
Knowing that I'll never travel to see all these amazing places, I genuinely appreciate you taking us to them!! 🥺👏🏼💛
Aww thank you Anna. It’s my honor 🙏🏼
I hope you do get the chance!
@@Tom_McMurtry that is if she overcomes her fear of flying, health conditions or whatever else might be there in the way. life is full of such difficulties and even if as you suggest she somehow gets there one day then too things may not go so well and she may not enjoy it that much. life gets in the way in all sorts of ways. getting there is only one step but actually enjoying being there is another
why not?
Sweet little overview of the coolest little capital ❤️👌🏼
Thank you Amelia 🙏🏼
The coolest little capital in the world! Zealandia is always such a great spot to go to in Wellington. Love the birdlife in pest free spots
Always interesting seeing the places people select when making videos of Wellington. Born, raised and pretty much lived here my whole live (a few overseas stints) I can say it’s definitely the creative hub of NZ. Lots of music (Which is what I do) happening in this city. Hope you get to see some of it. Cheers
You have just taken me back to my home city. My favorite part was Oriental Bay I loved this. So many memories . . . Wow Wellington has changed so interesting. Always was a great city, but it appears to be even better. Thankyou Thoroughly enjoyed this segment .Kiwi from Virginia
Cheers Janice! Thanks for watching
I was just in Wellington for three weeks - it is such a fabulous city! My husband and I did see your video about your trip to Cape Palliser to see the light house so we took your advice and made the same trip. The drive through the Rimutaka hills was breathtaking. So glad we saw your video. So sad to have to return to reality here in Washington, DC but look forward to next trip to NZ.
if you have a choice now to move to permanently would you move to OZ/NZ? and which city?
I really enjoyed this, would love to see another! 😊
Thank you Nix. More on the way!
I really enjoyed this! I am from the San Francisco Bay area originally, and this definitely reminds me a lot of San Francisco- but with his own unique charms. It has a cleaner/safer/classier vibe to it, and I’m really interested in checking it out someday. Thanks for sharing!
Has a lot in common with San Francisco mainly being on an earthquake fault.
Great video would love to see more of Wellington.
Good to know! Stay tuned, more on the way!
Amazing video
Wellington is truly wonderful
Wow. My home town and this video has presented it beautifully. Well done Alex!
Wellington looks like the perfect place to live. The arts scene of Melbourne mixed with the scenery of Vancouver, in a smaller city that's easier to get around, giving it a more communal feeling. The weather is also mild too which makes it even better.
it's not easier to get around, unless you already live in/near CBD. Melbourne's public transport network is extensive and much easier to use than Wellington's bus network. Agree on the scenery though, although Vancouver's looks far more impressive (I've never been). I wouldn't consider the weather 'mild' unless your definition of mild is the windiest metropolitan area in the world and lots of rain. i
Wellington!
I love my city
Great video!, my GG Grandmother was the lighthouse keeper at Pencarrow head in the 1800's
Wow! Crazy!
I grew up in Levin in the 60’s/70’s and loved going to Wellington on holidays and at times just for a burger on a Friday or Saturday night with mates. Welly is my favourite city even though I now live in Sydney.
Loved the video! I'm arriving very soon to NZ and Wellington seems to be a great spot! thanks!!! great content
Wow, I missed so much last time we were there!! Must need another holiday!
No better time than now
@@AlexanderAyling Alas, already booked for Waihi Beach this holidays :)
Would love to see more videos of Wellington, showing some more cool bars and restaurants there 😊
Hey Roberta, have you seen my "Perfect Day in Wellington" video? czcams.com/video/awmoPapLofE/video.html
Great little overview of the city. I'm taking notes. I'm visiting the North Island for a month in mid February to mid March.
Thank you Eric. You’ll enjoy it!
My favourite city in NZ❤
Same 👍🏽👍🏽
Absolutely loved this video. So Wellington! Thank you! There are heaps of hidden gems throughout the city. It's really interesting to start at Parliament & follow the trail to see how much of the city is built on reclaimed land. You can go into the BNZ centre (I think that's the location) to see where the ocean once came to and the bones of early ships beneath your feet. Heritage walks in the city really are super interesting. You could also go see a great show at Circa or Bats or the St James. Thanks again for the great video!
Thank you Jo!!!
You're thinking of the Old Bank Arcade, the gorgeous old Victorian that used to house the BNZ headquarters before they built the skyscraper diagonally opposite.
@@GodessSiri Yes! That'll be it. Darth Vadar's pencil box, I think they call/ed the skyscraper you mention.
I had no idea Wellington was so cool!! Great video :)
I love all of the bays of wellington on a nice day with no wind. I live in Wellington
Nothing beats it on a good day ;)
Another beautifully filmed video. If you like thrift shopping can I recommend Jackson St in Petone next time you are in town. Great for second hand furniture, the area also has fun coffee and dinner places.
Thank you Nadine. Much more to see and explore in the next video
Also nice to have a short walk along Petone esplanade/beach
I love living here so much. I live on the outskirts. Such a great city to live in.
Just popped Wellington onto our "must visit" list!!
Awesome!!
Great overview of the Te Aro and Oriental Parade. You should continue with videos of other areas like the waterfront, queens wharf, Somme’s island, cable car, parliament and more. Interesting to see how the creative artsy vibe meets the corporate/government side which is shared in Wellington.
Thank you Chris! Glad you enjoyed. Stay tuned 👍🏽
Pegasus books is an absolute treasure trove! I can browse in there for hours 💜💜💜
Man this city looks like my kind of place and somewhere I’d love to settle. I’m from Norwich UK 🇬🇧
It’s a great city!
Would love that. I lived in mount vic for 7 months in 1993 and 1994. Loved it.
Cheers Jimbo!
Great video. Next time you should visit Flowers Manuela. Voted the number florist for many years. You need to check out her shop because it's like walking into a little fairytale forest and the arrangements are always beautiful.
my favorite city in oceania nz is awesome
Hey there; lovin' your channel. I just came back (Mar 2, 2023) from a month in NZ. Unfortunately, four days after I arrived in Auckland, Cyclone Gabrielle hit and had to cancel all my northern north island activities (Paihia, Russell, Cape Reinga, etc). So headed south to Bleinmem, Queenstown and Doubtful Sound before heading to Wellington. Definitely coming back next year (February) and will try again. Thanks for all the info.
Hope you get better weather next year!
this made me feel a little better about "being stuck here". thanks
Love your channel.
Thank you 🙏🏼
7:25 Ohh me and my friend went to Pegasus Books a few days ago, sometimes you can find some pretty old manga in there!!
Thanks for covering my hometown!
No worries Bowser. Check out my other Welly vlog. Wellington Travel Vlog | New Zealand's "Coolest Little Capital"

I love Wellington I need to back soon to visit in 2023
Thank you Angela!
Love Welly
MORE!!!
Got it!
Its still so weird to think that this town is 18 000 km away from frankfurt germany. I think no destination is more far away than this
5:22 rare footage of aramex actually doing their job
Yeah, do more..! But what would you do in winter when it's so cold, windy, overcast and miserable. Check out the Chocolate Factory near Pigeon Park where they make chocolate for you on the spot, hot chocolates, etc, anything and everything choc.
Okay I'm from Whakaoriori and was lucky enough to meet Peter Jackson at Tenakori Cemetery way back in 1982
I love wellington. Been gone 15 years now and want to move back
Please make a video on universities and cost of living in Wellington as I am planning to move there and make it my new home..Thank you in advance..
I love this Video 📹 😭 🤣
Thank you Ane!
I can highly recommend op shopping and eating in Miramar, visiting the Brooklyn wind turbine and historic bunker walk (there's also an easy MTB trail that goes up adjacent to the road), the Island Bay shops and beach, and of course the waterfront near Te Papa.
I lived in Wellington for a few years but left because of the exorbitant housing costs, crappy flats and overwhelming traffic. Thankfully it looks like the council has finally started getting its shit together and turning streetside parking into bus and bike lanes, investing in better transit and importantly, integrating the bus service from the airport with the rest of the network as well as making payment more convenient.
I cursed myself by depending on owning a car like a typical Christchurch boy, but despite the rather cramped streets it's still a great place to walk, bus or ride an electric bike around the hills. Hoping that in the future Welly will retain its urbanist charm and continue to make the city better for people, not cars. Affordability of housing is really important in that regard, because more and more people are moving to the outer suburbs for cheaper rent and have little choice but to drive.
When you get to Christchurch make sure you check out Alice in Videoland, one of the last video rental places left, when you go in you will know why. Also little high eatery
Will do!
Hasn’t it long ago closed down and the building become the C1 cafe?
@@danieleyre8913 according to their website they are in Tuam
MALAYSIAN FOOD IN WELLINGTON..MALAYSIA TRULY ASIA🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
An op shop is an 'opportunities' shop - ie the money goes to charity! Just because it's second hand doesn't mean it's an op shop!
Such a tiny city

Wellywood!
Whats up man, how are you guys handling your taxes and social security stuff now that you're abroad? These are the kinds of things that are holding us up back here in the US :)
what about lyall bay
That’s a nice beach 🏝️
Hi there, I have heard that NZ has high UV radiation. So is it safe to move out during day time or just go out for a walk. Even if people apply sunscreen still isn't it bit scary to do any type of recreation activities given the fact NZ has highest skin cancer rates.
A hat and some sunscreen does the trick
