    Of all the videos of ponds/streams/waterfalls this is literally one of the only ones which shows how the pump system actually works. Thanks sir I was worried it might be more complicated but it really is quite simple.

I’ve set up a diy pond skimmer with my inlet pipe of the pump …that floats helping to skim the water of floating debris (esp floating bio film or parts of algae that float when the sun hits the water hard) … I’ll try to do a video on It when I can get a chance!🤝👍

  • @JP-kb4yi
    @JP-kb4yi Před 3 lety +3

    Did you consider a traditional underground pool skimmer to start at your inlet to capture large debris before it gets to your pump skimmer basket? Please don’t take this wrong because I love your pond. The only thing I don’t like is how you can see the 2 inch flexible inlet tube in the water. I’m sure it’s hardly noticeable but I’m extremely OCD and it would bother me.
    I’m planning on having 2 inlets with skimmers located in different areas to help keep the water free of debris and give me easy access to clean them out. An added bonus of having a traditional skimmer is you can clean the bottom of the pond when large debris settles with a traditional pool vacuum that plugs right into the skimmer.

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před 3 lety +3

      Great ideas! For me I wanted the most basic functional setup and that’s what made me choose this basic design. I don’t even have a skimmer before the pump just the two leaf guards... one in front of the inlet pipe and one after before the pump. Do you mean creating a hole in the liner to to have an underground skimmer there? For me leaf debris isnt an issue and I’ve tried a vacuum and various things and actually was very disappointed and have went back to the hand held leaf catcher getting muck from the bottom. I know to some they wouldn’t want or possibly couldn’t manually collect the debris from bottom but for me it’s not an issue and keeps my costs down and mechanical maintenance at the minimum. And honestly the debris isn’t an issue for me and not a big deal. No offense taken😊... for me the inlet pipe isn’t an issue and u don’t notice because There’s usually glare to the water surface. If you had rocks on the liner it would be easy to hide but I have chosen not to have rocks. I have also recently installed an aquaponics planting area hanging over all along the ponds exposed liner to cover it and for more filtration (hopefully I can do a video on it in near future!). Good plans you have!👍

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před 3 lety +1

      Oh sorrry I just looked at my thumbnail to this video where you can clrealy see the pond inlet pipe... just FYI that pic was taken from my roof but usually from the ground level the reflections are great and don’t make it much noticeable and doesn’t bother me at all but I understand you concern! Oh and the new pond edge cover I have goes over the exposed inlet pipe which is nice... oregano, mint, creeping Jenny, flag grass, Lillies, lizard tail and some other experiments are growing around it now including certain type of succulents👍

      @@UnitedRanch I’m going to have 2 low points in my pond edge and that’s where the skimmers will go. I’ll bond the pond liner to the skimmer opening with an adhesive (Im testing adhesive now) but so it looks like I’ll be using the same adhesive I used when I built my Aquaponics grow beds and fish tank. The skimmers will have a small amount of concrete around the back side to keep them in place and they’ll be hidden under rocks. I don’t plan nor will be cutting any holes in the liner.

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před 3 lety

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před 3 lety +2

      That is sooo cool!! That’s is so encouraging for me! Sounds good! I hope to put up a vid of growing table scrap Bok Choy in the bog around this weekend.... and I’ve put in great aeration diffusers for bottom up aeration that’s super cost effective and beneficial to the beneficial bacteria and fish... and I’ve added a planting area with fish netting and rock along the sides to cover the liner to add even more filtration and surface area for the bacteria anddd this weekend I have my plans to create my diy floating pond wetland filters for more plants and surface area (where the plants are contained to an area and not robbing your swimming space!) Haha now my issue is editing videos which isn’t my passion but I am trying when I get time so the content can get out there👍!

    Hello, I am looking to build my own swim pond in PEI, Canada. Just wondering where you purchased your liner, pump and flexible pvc piping for pond to pump and pump to filtration bog? Also, I’m pretty sure you mentioned you used 2” for the flexible and 2” for the rigid pipe in your filtration bog. Did you get these things from a specialty supply store? I cannot seem to find these at Home Depot. Thanks for your videos and your time answering these questions. Best regards, Joe Gillis

And the flexible pvc pipe I believe I purchased online as no stores around me had any 2” flexible pvc… I just can’t remember which store I’m sorry!! But you should be able to find something with closer shipping possibly to you online👍.The hard 2”pvc they had plenty in stock where I’m at at Home Depot👍… I hope that helps some😊

    My pond is 113,000 gal. I'm having a hard time finding a pump that will turn it over every 3hrs. Do you have any recommendations? I love your pond! I have been struggling with mine mainly an algae struggle. I have a biofilter but will be adding a bog filter this year. Thank you!

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před rokem +1

      Wow that’s awesome! I believe the more gallons you have the less strict on the amount the water that needs to be turned over. Also adding aeration can help and is pretty simple!👍… but yes adding the bog with its own pump will help cycle and clean the water too👍. Nice well as long as the algae isn’t taking over and depleting the oxygen and such, it can be healthy for your ecosystem😊

      flexible pvc hose for it & I got a huge waterfall filter for it.

    How much did all this cost you? Have you done a video on the cost breakdown yet?

    • @UnitedRanch
      @UnitedRanch  Před 3 lety +6

      Hello, no I haven’t yet but everyone’s project will be different depending on the natural materials you have and what work you hire out or do yourself... but I guess I could make one of the main materials I bought! But for now....The pump was around $440, the liner was around $1700, the 6,000 pounds of pea gravel was I think around $90. The two huge flagstones were I think $140 combined. The fish were around 10 for one dollar haha! (Comet goldfish at the feed store). The excavation is tricky because I used the excavator for a French drain for another project as well but the guy said it would’ve been I think around $3500 to excavate the pond and put on the mound for the bog filter. And he was saying I think for a pool it would have been around 10,000. But that’ll totally depend on various factors for you but it’s a good ballpark👍... or you can rent a bobcat or dig by hand depending on size! And there’s other little things like waterfall foam and such but those are the main costs! Hope that helps👍
