    Hey, professional tree worker(arborist) and new bow hunter here. Saddles are second nature to me in my line of work. I splice my own ropes and make my own gear when I can.
    I just thoughti would add my little 10 cents. I'm going to get a tethered saddle for next year. I just happened to notice your locking carabiner you sell in your kits are spin or twistto lock. I'm my industry if its a life rated carabiner auto-locking gates are the go to. There's no way to forget locking your carabiner. Because I have used twist lock biners and many many times 90ft off the ground I have come to find they are unlocked. I would recommend putting auto lockers in your kits instead. Could save someone's life.

      screw down so you dont screw up!!! (carabiner orientation)
      its unnerving to open your life line carabiner at 80 foot in the air. change the gear remove the fear.

      Yea same coming from a rock climbing background. I still use my climbing harness and a sit drag but their saddles look sweet.

    KAREN!! LOL I guess Carl lost another bet. I went with your 8mm rope this season and absolutely love them. The pack-ability is by far the main reason. The size and weight reduction is incredible.

    Finally I found a video that explains the kong vs the rope man. 11mm vs 8 mm.

    I went with the 8mm. Love how small it packs down.

    Just ordered the phantom XL kit with 8mm lineman and tree tether ropes. I’ll add 2 Kong ducks in a few weeks.

    Tie a loop in end of tether...run thru waist belt. If ropeman or carabiners fail you'll have a backup.

    I have both the 11mm and 8mm Tethrd ropes in both tethers and linesman ... the 8mm is WAY nicer. Packs smaller, lighter, just all around nicer. I like the Kong Duck better than the Ropeman 1 too. Downside to the 8mm is if you are using a prusik, it locks down way tighter making it more difficult to loosen and adjust positioning. But all in all ... the 8mm is the way to go in my opinion.

      Sounds like it’s noisy in this video. You don’t have any noise issues?

      8mm is out of spec for the Ropeman 1.

      @@jaybo3687 I know how to tie a prusik ... I have been professionally trained in rope climbing and rope rescue. I know knots and hitches better than the average hunter. I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with the prusik setup at all. It is just a fact that a prusik on the 8mm line will bite harder and be more difficult to loosen up. It is not a knock on the hitch or the line ... just a fact ... nothing wrong with a swabisch. I simply was pointing something out to the person who is trying to decide on which line to buy. They are both great, they both work great, they both have trade offs.
      Good lord saddle hunting has created a ton of "know it all, my way is better than your way" assholes ...

    I’ve owned too sets of Tethrd 11mm ropes, good quality gear, unfortunately they actually measure 13mm which make for a very bulky package, I’ve since switched to 8mm Oplux and am way happier with the setup, I do miss being able to use the Ropeman, the Kong is ok, the Ropeman is a better device

    Does the Kong have those sharp teeth like the r.m. 2 has? That one seems to fray the rope more

  • @a10guy

    The 11mm rope looks huge. Another commenter said it actually measures out at 13mm. If thats true, why advertise it as 11mm? I just ordered both the lineman and tether in 11mm and I'm wondering if I made a mistake.

    • @georgehardin8452
      @georgehardin8452 Před 7 měsíci

      The 8mm is actually stronger than the 11 or 13 mm rope and it's abrasion resistance.

    • @gordonneverdies
      @gordonneverdies Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah it's very bulky. Came with my saddle originally before I switched to the 8mm. I had to put the lineman's rope in my backpack because it would weigh down the saddle. Now it fits in a pocket.

  • @mikebrown4222
    @mikebrown4222 Před 2 lety

    What is the actual weight difference between the 2 setups (maybe even include the total with the Prusik or Ropeman or Kong)?

    • @philmcafee343
      @philmcafee343 Před 2 lety +1

      Both 11mm ropes plus two ropemans is roughly 42oz. Two 8mm plus two kong ducks is roughly 28.5. Not sure with the prusik

    What is the recommended way of cleaning the 8mm ropes? Specifically if they get pine sap on them? Literally the only trees big enough to get in one of my best spots are pine trees.

      Pine sap is almost impossible to remove. I climb trees for a living. Using it is the best way to remove.

    Camera angle was terrible. I got two from you and love them. They work great. All anyone could see was your hands and they were blocking the shot of you installing it on the rope. I would redo this video with a better camera angle. Peace

    • @chefrandysauce
      @chefrandysauce Před 2 lety +2

      Ropeman show the width of rope they work with on them. Mine shows 10-13mm. So it would not work for the 8mm new rope

    Do you havr to use a kong duck woth 8mm? Or can you still use a ropeman 1

    • @gordonneverdies
      @gordonneverdies Před 6 měsíci

      The Ropeman 1 isn't recommended with 8mm. The Ropeman 2 is but I heard the teeth beat up the rope pretty bad.

    I just purchased and received my saddle last week....it was my understanding that the ropeman was for the 8mm and the kong was for the 11...I went with the 8mm with the ropemans. I hope I can remedy this considering its all still boxed up??
