Good, clear review stating pros and possible cons. Especially like the clarification that not everyone will have the same room dimensions. Comparing open floor plans, apartments, houses or even basement areas all will be totally different. And the point about the importance of what you put the speakers on mattering alot, something that doesn't get touched on that much, very important point you all brought out. Thanks. Me and the wife were planning on the Fives, but now that we are moving from our apartment to a much larger Condo we plan to go with the Seven's. Sweet Spot all the way.

I guess i should have watch the complete video here before asking my question. So i take it you have to set the TV to stereo and not DD for movies. I do 50/50 so it's a hard decision on what to do. I have one more soundbar to test which is the NEW Polk Magnifi Max AX SR sound bar set up. Just got down with the new JBL bar 1000 with terrible results.

Just got a pair of The Nines. They’re pretty fantastic. Without any adjustments in the app and in my room I think I hear the “cabinet resonance” they are referring to. To my ears it’s more of a congestion in the low mids.
I quickly resolved it and even think I’ve found the secret sauce for amazing separation and depth.
I actually turned ON the Dynamic Bass EQ, then I set the room config to “corner” which drops the low end 6db. And then did very slight EQ adjustments to taste.
Added lots of frequency separation and depth. Almost like a high pass filter in a way.

I have owned the fives for a month and was so blown away by them that i bought the nines. My intent with them was to build small stands for them and mimic a smaller version of the heresy iv (in appearance). I have listened to them for about a week now and haven't noticed what you are hearing with them but i will admit this video has made me want to tune in a lot more to see if i notice these things. I enjoy your reviews and look forward to more.

Andrew and Kristi, thank you so much for this review. I purchased the Nines when they came out and experienced the 'chestiness' you described, despite playing with the speaker placement, and EQ. I wasn't experiencing the same level of excitement many other reviewers were having with the Nines. I even paired with a sub, which slightly improved things (like you said). But it just wasn't right. After your review I returned the Nines for the Sevens and it has been almost a day and night difference. I love them. Cheers to you both!

  • @JukeboxAlley
    @JukeboxAlley Před rokem +6

Nines all day, NO SUB needed, ordered them factory direct, no complaints, they can be the "endgame" speaker. I haven't heard another powered bookshelf that's even close. The low end is insane for their size and can dig lower than most woofers twice their size, if you don't want the low end, dial it back on the eq, or take boost off, that's what it's there for, but the boost and eq is perfect for listening at 30-50 db because they sound full at any volume level, they don't have to be cranked to throw low end, even in a larger room. If you want to spend extra dough, go ahead and buy the sub, but you most likely won't need one with the nine depending on the room. Hes just trying to help push Klipsch subs (because it makes Klipsch happy) to sale more because nobody needs the subs really at this point when the bookies dig plenty low as they are, unless a very very big room and want to get in the 15-20hz region for movies.

100% agree. while its not super loud these can play 23hz-30hz clean without distortion. If anyone can find me another active speaker that can do that ill be impressed. My phantom 2 can play down to 22hz however its not clean below 30hz and its only in specific locations in my room.

This is the review I’ve been waiting on before pulling the trigger and upgrading my Klipsch “The Sixes” that I use with my MoFi UltraDeck Turntable. I had 100% planned to buy the “THE NINES” and I’m so glad I fought myself and decided to be patient and wait for your review! And I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again in the future… I truly don’t understand how your channel doesn’t have AT LEAST a million (if not more) subscribers! I am a very critical person and I’m legit OCD and I can’t make it thru most people’s videos for more than a few minutes because they either just get on my nerves or the room is a mess they are filming in or the video itself is chopped up and doesn’t flow etc.. And many times they just repeat what they’ve read or heard from other reviewers or they are paid by the brand and give a kiss a$$ untruthful review! You are the absolute polar opposite of any of that and I genuinely enjoy your videos and watch them even when it’s a product I’m not interested in because I want to support you guys and just enjoy your delivery so much in all capacities! And the fact that your wonderful intelligent wife Kristi enjoys your hobby with you and has such incredible feedback/opinions also is just the icing on the already decadent cake! Sooo, I pulled the trigger on the Sevens, they arrived two days ago all the way down under. You are right, the clarity is superb. I am hearing detail I never heard with the smaller Audioengine 5+ (with 8” sub). The “immersion” in the sound stage is wonderful and I reaction you would have to go thousands of dollars higher in a separate system to make noticeable gains on the sevens. You are also correct in that all the way up to full volume they don’t distort at all, something the 5+ s would do depending on the recording. Whilst I thought full power would be louder than it is, and despite being quite loud, being realistic even sitting in front of them isn’t fatiguing to the ears (or head!). I hear them very adequately in other parts of the house, way more so that the 5+ s. But of course if you are listening the the sound quality, you are sitting in front of them anyway. I’ll probably upgrade the 8” Audioengine sub for a 10” reference from Klipsch but the bass is really, really good, I’d prefer to sell off the Audioengine as a complete package to mostly fund a Klipsch sub. Unless you think there is a better, similarly priced sub to match the sevens. Thanks for your review, I am glad I took your advice.

I have had the Fives since they came out and adore them. I was not a fan of Klipsch in the past (never owned any), but their sound and convenience has really won me over and made me a huge fan. The Fives are a smart buy right now since they are only about $500, which is a great value for what you get. But I had a feeling the Sevens would be worth the upgrade and you seem to have confirmed that. Just a lot more of a good thing that my room could benefit from and I know I would appreciate. I think Klipsch engineers have hit a home run with this line. I already was thinking that the Nines are just too big for my basement man cave. (Their massive height won't fit under my cabinets.) I think they need a big space. The fact that you concluded that the Sevens have a more balanced sound just adds to my conclusion. Thanks Andrew 😃. Have the Fives… and do love them, but never thought their low-volume performance was great; they really need to be at or above medium volume to sound their best. So glad to hear the Sevens get this kind of review, and the honesty about the Nines, which I also would have instinctually leaned towards. If/when I am ready to upgrade my home office setting, I will definitely lean towards replacing my Fives with the Sevens! 👍

I have The Fives. For me, it was when you said the 7’s and 9’s are in the same family as the RP line. Maybe it’s because I have them on a 65” wide by 1.5” thick live edge computer desk. But they’re not flat and even sometimes somewhat muddy. I love the soundstage that the small cabinets in near field make, but the tonal quality from my 280f’s is so much better. Very likely will swap my 5’s with 7’s. Thanks!

I remember when you reviewed the KLH model Threes, which, I believe, have the same size drivers as the Nines, you also commented on the bass in that speaker as well. I know the model Threes are passive and the Nines are powered, but are the bass issues similar or do they differ?

Great review and, yes, the Sevens, as shown in your video, are simply gorgeous and looks matter too. On the other hand, I'm not yet ready for powered speakers, over 2 grand if adding a sub can get very decent speakers and amp and the choice to add and replace and then change/improve the sound.
It would be interesting to see if Klipsch will improve the cabinet of the Nines and reduce the resonance of low frequencies.

Great video and I that you went with the "happy medium". I've always thought the FIVES (and now the SEVENS) would a great alternative for those in apartments and smaller houses. Especially those with turntables as these have phono inputs. Personally though, after owning some Jamo all-in-one powered speakers I use with my computer...I sort of regret bypassing the fun of having mix and matching separates in the amplifier/DAC and passive speakers.

I am so happy you made this as I’m getting ready to buy something for a medium sized room . Music is first, then TV just for intelligibility.
I had a feeling the sevens would be better, Klipsch can’t help themselves. With an 8” driver they had an opportunity to make something really special, but they just use the potential to make a frat party speaker. I was afraid Klipsch wouldn’t high pass the speaker with a sub but Klipsch finally sent me a response explaining they do. I don’t know why they would not advertise that as it’s a really big deal.
    ANDREW!!!!!
Would you use a SVE sealed sub or the new Klipsch subs that are slot ported? As I said Klipsch can’t help themselves and I’m afraid the Klipsch would be boomy , more HT worthy instead of fast and musical.

Thanks for a great review. I'm so glad i saw this, as I'm going to audition the Nines next week, and hadn't even thought to compare them to the 7's as I really do belomng to the Big is Better old school of audio - however i will truly compare the 2 and hopefully update here with my opinions. I mostly listen to classical and jazz music so its mostly acoustic instruments that interest me. I've never heard a Klipsch speaker before, but what interests me to audition them is, as a front row audience concert attender from the reviews I've read it sounds like Klipsch might be able to reproduce that front row dynamic better, where you can almost feel the vibes of the music - so i'm hoping that the very dynamic transient response might recreate the feel of live music in a concert hall. Previously I had thought that Magnepan or an electrostatic speaker might be best for classical - but i just have a feeling if you want a concert hall feel in your listening room you need a dynamically exciting speaker rather than a refined one - im reall excited to find out!

Hello! New to channel and absolutely love all yours reviews I've seen. I've watched both your reviews for the first gen RP8000F and The Sevens and am extremely split between the two for my next setup. I realize that there's a real convenience with powered speakers. However, it seems that the consensus is usually that passive speakers driven properly will most of the time outperform. I'm really tempted by The Sevens because of this glowing review, but would I be giving up a lot sonically compared to the RP8000Fs for some convenience?

    @switawivr6 Před rokem +2

    Great review, you two!
I won't buy any of the three, but the Sevens surely sound like the Goldilocks pick!
I'm sure I could be proved wrong of course, but in my mind you really can track the transition from desktop to room-filling sound in a 2-way design as the woofer size increases from 4in to 5in to 6/6.5in and larger. And, even before your review, I would have been tempted but also wary of the Nines. For some reason an 8in woofer is hard to pull off in a stand mount speaker. And those physical dimensions! 20in tall, 13in deep, and 28.4/27.0lbs... That's not a shelf-of-any-kind speaker!
Yep, even before your review I would have wondered if the Sevens would be the 'just right' choice and easier to live with.
And you nailed it on the looks again. This is what the RP line should be. I'll drink to that!

I’ve got them in a really weird location, on top of a recessed bar in my dining room, under a Samsung Frame TV. They were way to bass heavy in their location until they came out with the bass control in the app. Now I have the ports plugged and the bass trimmed down in the app and the sound is great for the setup constraints that I have. I didn’t want a soundbar look in my dining room, and the fives and the Frame TV, with a DecoTV frame around it, look great. I’ve got the fives connected to my Sonos system too, through the Sonos port. I’ve got the RP500’s in the garage and I love those too. Good Actives are not like this Klipsch where they bought 0815 China Amplifier and put it in a Box. @@DJ-ex4hd I think Airpulse might sound better. Keep in mind A300 Pro sounds better than A300, while having better conectivity and more headroom. They are just more refined, more mature sounding, more realistic. I also find them much better using Coax than Optical with Wiim Pro streamer.

Hey Andrew. I love your reviews. I have the fives and want to get another set of speakers for another room. I'm torn between getting the sevens or a set of Heresy IV. I'm looking for something that sounds great at lowish volume but sound airy and fill the room without effort. My room is medium sized.

Thank you for the well timed review. I'm trying to decide on getting a soundbar and the Five's for my master bedroom. The one question I wish Kristi had asked was dialogue on the Seven's. I listen to music about 30% and movies/TV shows 70% and I would really like to know how the performance is in that department?
Your reviews are much better than other and I prefer what you and Kristi have to say, over traditional media, like Sound and Vision. Thank you again for being awesome.

Dialog clarity was good; better on the Sevens than 9s. I believe there is a comparison with a soundbar in the review. Since you are so heavily into movies, I think you might be happier with an AV, surround set up and sub.

@@KristiWright I thought of that option as well but my wife has prohibited me from being another AVR into the house. So I'm left with the options of the Seven's or the Samsung sound bar.
Thank you for responding, I really happy to hear that and now I'll be showcasing the options to my wife and see what she's okay with.

How would you compare the Klipsch with the EdifierS3000 Pro?
The two speakers are connected wirelessly and i suspect the pair came with individual amplifier for each speaker.
I am looking for a set of powered speakers and i am down to the Sevens and the Edifier.

Hi, Andrew! Love your videos. I was wondering if you have experience with the sixes and if so how you would compare them to the sevens in terms of sound, not necessarily features. Should I be considering an upgrade? Thanks!

The Sevens sound really interesting, I'll definitely add them to my shortlist when thinking of upgrading my system. Any thoughts how they compare to KEF's similar-ish products (say, LS50 Wireless I/II, LSX I/II)?

KEF sound signature is more laid-back than Klipsch.

Tannoy GOLD 5-7-8’s. Yes I know they are studio speakers. But love my 5’s ( both Klipsch & Tannoy )

Hi Andrew, as a big fan of speakers that boom boom and currently dropping a boom-boom while I watch this review, do you know if the 5/7/9's support a 2.2 subwoofer arrangement? I'm not looking to crack my foundation, but I am curious what the limits of bass configuration are.

Nice review Andrew and Kristy, ty both. I had the Sixes, but never could connect with them, for some reason did not make the music move me, so I sold them. I hope the Sevens would sound better to me. I am spoiled, as I own all of Klipsch heritage line, HS-4 up the KH 70th edition, and was wondering if the Sevens has a similar sound signature, as Klipsch states they are heritage inspired? Thoughts? ty

I have The Fives with a Kanto sub 8 and it's an incredible sounding (but a bit of an overkill) for my work laptop setup. Now I'm wondering if I should get The Sevens for my home system to replace my B&O soundbar. Too much money involved at this point... lol. Thanks for the review!
