These stand in the film as a proxy for the two major parties in the United States, the Democrats and the Republicans, respectively. But they are both singing pop songs - clearly a criticism that the two major parties in the United States are only superficially different, and they both worship the same pop-culture religion of capitalism. It's so obvious once you stop thinking about it. Such is the genius of Anna Kendrick.
Well this makes perfect sense. But what about Pitch Perfect 2? To me it seems obvious that the film is social commentary about the situation in Crimea.
