I just got my backwards crosses and it's ALL thanks to you!!! Not a skate session goes by without your voice playing in the background.
Thanks for the encouragement. And congratulations on the success of your channel.

I just recently got back into skating after not doing it for 30 years. What I’m working on feels like the basics: going backward, stopping, turning, not falling my ass (or hip!). I’ve been wondering about my trucks for a few weeks now and this video gave me some direction to pursue. Thanks!
    Also…
    OMG STICKERS!!! 😉

Love your tutorials, thanks Marilyn! I’m working on jumping cones right now, without falling and with confidence 😂 hoping I can test out of Fresh Meat soon ;)

I just joined a derby team and before that I had never used quad skates. I was struggling with some of the basics we were being taught and I came across this video and WOW! This should have been obvious but it wasn’t and it was so helpful!! My confidence level is way higher now too that I can move in my skates properly thank you!!

So I'm a fan of this topic because people always think they can skate right away as soon as they get the pretty box NO! Check Your Equipment, it can save you from injury but I'm no police it's just what I know. I would include checking the bearings if you aren't changing them immediately as once a bearing arrived broken no bearing ball cover just aluminum balls in a cheap cage lol. I also change my cushions because they were plastic at first and they do become less responsive over time. Marilyn one of my fav women with the cool hair please change your cushions lol. You'll thank me later because as much as you skate I know those things died ages ago. My friend skated 4-5years on hers and as soon as I changed them when I started skating a year ago she called me immediately to apologize for not listening sooner. I change hers everytime I change mine now so 6-8 months sometimes longer.
I am working on turning around (front to back, back to front on both sides) musicality and overall balance & comfortably. I want to be teachable and stop saying I can't. I used to suffer from panic attacks have anxiety and am generally cautious so I'm always shaking & nervous. I just take my time go at my own pace and ignore ppl until I can figure out how to add their advice so it works for me. Skating kind of saved me from depression so I just like to have fun! Thanks for another great video and sorry so looong 😂.

Hi Marilyn, congratulations on your 5k subs🥳🎉
I have been working on trying to skate around the track faster or at least keeping pace. I keep changing the way of skate after starting off completely different maybe it is my endurance not fit enough but just trying to lessen the time around before getting back to the pack.
Just a newby derby player here first game in 2 weeks time 😬😆

My Gumball Superballs interfere with my wider derby wheels. 😢 Ah, that’s why I cannot glide and why my toestops have those funny grooves. 😜
I changed out to Bionic Bigfoots to keep using my Derby wheels (not much grip with my session wheels!)
The toe stop width appears to be very plate dependent. Most plates don’t have this problem. Just … something to keep in mind and be aware of.
    Congrats on hitting 6k Marilyn!

I cut the sides so I have space with my toe stops 😺

Hi Marilyn!!!! I’ve been doing derby for a few months now, your videos have been an amazing help with my derby endeavors, so a big THANKS for all your vids!!!
I am having trouble getting my directional blocks down. I find it hard to get my body in that correct position to push my opponent around. I’m either not getting close enough to seat my body against them correctly so I can direct them off track , or I can’t get my body to make good contact as trying to block I’ve been told to push my butt/hips out to hit, or use my upper half to shove. I know it’s just a learning curve., but do you have any drills that I can do while skating alone to learn to get my body to follow my leg as I place in front of my opponent to direct them off track or just out of the way ?
Your awesome and I really appreciate your time!!!! 🫶💪

Great video. Are your front trucks and back trucks usually set to the same adjustment tension?

I still don’t get how to determine if truck is too loose. The little bit of wiggle is good for me because it allows me to turn but I don’t understand where I should look for a gap? Is the gap supposed to be between the nut and the bearing or the metal piece that is under the nut? Thanks

This is really helpful! Do I loosen the back trucks to match the front?

Hi! I'm starting new tomorrow for the first time ever, what is required I terms of do I have to buy my own gear and skates? Or is there things I could borrow? What is a good recommendation for skates? Can they be any quads with outdoor wheels? Or specific roller derby skate..thanks

If you have a bolt toe stop and you buy a adjustable toe stop can you then install it if so is installed like any other skate?

Hi! I love your videos, they helped me so much when I got into derby! Do you have any tips for how to get faster? I'm a jammer and have gotten some feedback from my coaches that I need to improve my speed and get faster to move up one level, but I don't know how. Do have any good drills to improve this??
