The Rumours were true!! Here it is... The Behringer Model 15 .. and this is what it does :)
This is not a fully comprehensive breakdown and demo, but a first look at what it is to answer any obvious questions i.e. what can it do? is it like the Moog Grandmother? etc. I'll put them together soon.

THANK YOU for being my main “go-to source” for reviewing any and all synths & drum machines that I might be interested in! (You, Nicky Batts & Loopop) It’s mainly because of YOU that I ended up buying my Model D (especially after seeing your “comparison” video where you compared it with a Minimoog Model D) my Behringer TD3 (when you compared IT to Roland’s TB-303) and when you reviewed B’s Kobol Expander, I just HAD TO get one of my own! (Even though it wasn’t on my “radar” at all, but after seeing/hearing you play one, totally turned my head around) I am SO HAPPY that you turned me on to it, it’s easily one of my favorite synthesizers, even though I have many others!
Thanks for the preview on this dude! It's been on my radar for a while and I think I'll treat myself to one. Just need one of those three tier stands now to take this, the Solina and Pro-800 kinda like the one for the dfam/m32/subh.
as always, Great Demo! Thank you 🙏🏼
That thing sounds lovely , nice and compact too.
How did Oliver Postgate describe the Moog sound?
"A cat chewing a wasp."
I think the Granny and this has that in spades.
Thanks dear starsky Carr for yet a another awesome review 🙏❤️🎹
Sounds like a synth. Good job 👍
Sounds absolutely wicked. I've been gassing for Behringer's MS-20 and Model D for quite some time. Alas, my budget has me getting by within the VST plugin end of things.
Great demo mate!
Also, I'm slightly jelly of that Aston microphone you got there! Ha!
Cheers!
Great job, as usual, Starsky!😉👍🏻
✌🏻😎🎹🌴🌞
Looking forward to a sound exploration. Get crazy! Also, I have to say, I like my Kobol a little better at first glance. I would love that sub, arp and reverb though though.
Amazing value for the money. Sounds great!
Missed opportunity to call it the Grandfather
Lol facts that's what imma call it for now on
They should really run with that theme; "The cool auntie", "the strange cousin", "the distant uncle who we do not talk about" hahaha
More like the 'second-cousin twice-removed' or 'illegitimate bastard'. LOL
cuzband
Genius missed.
Blimey! I was just wondering when the linnBrum was coming. Didn't see this coming
10:10 Sub-oscillators are usually only square waves. They use a flip-flop that is edge-triggered by the master oscillator, so simply switch on and off at half the frequency. I think the graphic on the panel just means that the sub-oscillator is enabled (as a square) but you're selecting the different oscillator 2 waveforms.
Actually it seems that he never actually activated the sub osc (or rather the divider) but just switched the main waveforms, while thr ”sub” is in that case it is just the square wave. Had he turned the waveform selector switch more to right, the sub would have been one octave lower than osc 2 itself.
Hmmm ...Might have to add to the collection . Just bought the Pro 800 and your sound bank 👍🏻
haha, you said Moog Model 15, whoops! that really sells it tho.
Haha… I never noticed (obvs) I think I’m gradually turning into my own grandmother!!👵
hehe, i thought that was funny.
@@StarskyCarrgetting kids names mixed up and putting dinner in the washing machine instead of the oven? I'm getting there too haha :,-)
Might call it the Clone Model 15 instead? Its good that people with a budget can learn and play with this kind of gear. Maby they buy the real thing in the (near) future, if they like it. Otherwise there will not be anything for Behringer and China to copy in the years to come 🤔
@@kjell_lundblad newbie here on a budget that's looking to just learn on something. I'm down for getting quality gear but want to get educated first cause I this is like learning a new language even though I have a solid music base. I'm open to suggestions on where to start. Cheers!
Looking forward to a comparison video of this the kobol expander neutron proton and sem when they are all available so i can decide what to add to my pro-1 and pro-800. I think 3 of these will be the right number.
I've been waiting for this one.
You wouldn't have a Behringer Spice laying around as well, would you? 😊
Best comment so far
i do but i don't do videos so you have to wait for those that do
Fully diggin your glasses !
Lol, ULI couldnt even change the faceplate colors even just a little..may as well put a stamp /logo on it with him flipping the BIRD. !
Many years ago, 1981, to be exact, they offered an electronic music class in the college I was attending. They had three synthesizer and a slew of analog tape recording machines. The first synth was the VCS3 Putney. Used quite a bit by Pink Floyd. The second was the Moog 15. The last was a fairly new Prophet 5. It was a class in subtractive synthesis. Out of the three, if I had my choice, I'd have gone with the VCS3. The 15 was a great synth to learn basic patching in a mainstream way. The VCS used its famous "battle ship game " of patch pins. I think it is easier to get an idea of signal flow with traditional patch cables. But, unless you have some huge love of the Moog 15, there are better analog low priced synthesizer today. Even the Grandmother won't set you back all that much. Check out some of the software synths you can have for free on most Ubuntu Linux distributions. I do give Berhinger considerable appreciation for what they have made in affordable synthesizer and modules that most of us could only have dreamed about a few years ago.
IM WAITING FOR THE BATRIARCH
haaaa!
Bebushka?
babcha?
Bukake?
Definitely!!!
Cool little synth. I already have the original though.. though they did add an dub osc.. oh well I guess this won't be available for a while anyway right? Amnd I still have the MS-5 on pre-order as well, which I don't have physical space for nor i my mixer.. lol.. what am I doing?
Love their synths. Great bang for the buck. I'm especially excited about the mini series they're working on
It's been so long since they revealed this that I completely forgot. Good timing, though, as I've been pondering a desktop module to go with the Moog Subharmonicon and this is cheaper than a Mother-32 while having a better layout than the Crave.
When you do the comparison to GM it would be interesting to see how stable the oscillators are in comparison. Like if you exactly tune osc 1 and osc 2 together and wait 15 minutes are they still in tune? My Model D is useless to me because the oscillators won't stay in tune for more than about three minutes. I'm also curious if the mults are buffered.
The Grandmother is my favorite synth, so glad I got one. I’m sure this will come very close. If the price point is super low then it’s like a cheap expansion pack for your GM...
Hmmm... OK gave it a listen here and it's not nearly as aggressive as I was expecting. That massive pre-filter mixer distortion on the GM is 90% of what I like about it above my other synths. Also was hoping they'd put in a Attenuator CV as the GM is really missing that feature. Well it's still a good expansion of sorts, so is the Model D which I'm currently using a lot with the GM.
The sound at 3:45 , I was looking for this sound, so it was a MOOG Grandmother!
Would love to see a video about what could be done with the Model 15 when combined with the Kobol Expander!
If it's a grandmother clone why did they called it "model 15" while this is clearly not a clone of the Moog modular Model 15 ? I don't understand.
because the architecture of the GM and this is based on the 15 - the GM name is likely trademarked , that said it makes sense to call it the 15 because of its heritage
@@ogasi1798 with no FFB ?
@@vincentprimault4380 it doesn't contain all of it, that much is obvious
Hey I don't make the names 🤣
What a nice jewel !
That's a lot of mojo in one box. I do kinda think a second envelope would have been nice, but heck it sounds glorious!
The Behringer oscillators are sounding really good these days.
Yes. Midas engineers are working on it.
Are they finally releasing it?? I've been waiting for this for so long. A bit sad no actual spring reverb tank but honestly digital spring reverb is pretty decent. I've got Milkyway multieffects module and the digital spring reverb in that is pretty good. Actual spring reverb can be a bit noisy so its fine that it's digital and not analog
100% will Buy as soon as it gets to canada
lol, you'll be waiting a long time, none of these new Behringer products are available in Canada.
@@user-io6xo9rx2p maybe some generous European person can just send me one
I think I need this. My crave is lonely sitting there as my only semi modular. They would be amazing together.
Give it a Neutron to play with like I did with mine. 😁
@@SpeccyMan I guess that might work better. I like the moogy sound of this model 15, but the extra features and some extra tweaking would go a long way.
This is awesome
Besides the keyboard and spring reverb, does the Grandmother have any other features missing on the model 15?
I couldn't say yet, I'd need to do a full comparison first. BUT.. I don't think so on the face of it.
Hi. Thanks for the review. Just curious as to what the song is playing in your sequence. It is something familiar. Thanks.
It's just a couple of minor chords. There's probably loads of stuff doing similar tbh. Having said that I think it has certain rings of Daft Punk's Iron soundtrack.. I might be wrong though.
@@StarskyCarr Thanks for the reply.
Intrigued by that reverb - I guess some kind of weird frequency modulation going on to give it a spring-like sound?
Same stuff shuffled around with cool new stickers and holding back on releasing a real clone keeping them wanting.
Haha are you talking about this in particular or synths in general 😂👍
Finally!
I'm holding out for a remake of the OG Roland System 100 (1975) in Eurorack format.
They have most of the design already in their new MS5- but it's just too big!
The filter is pretty much the same, but the SH-5 and MS-5 have an added bandpass mode.
Very nice!
sounds good🎉🎉🎉
how do you tune it? is it complicated?
You and bad gear uploaded today at the exact same time.
Dang. Now I want one.
Getting one to expand my old gal. Will be a great grandma indeed.
Everyone knows to get the best out of a synth you need to add reverb, Finally a synth with reverb.
Is it the case that the only synth they've made so far with *both* the 3340 osc and classic Moog ladder filter is the Crave? I feel like Crave sounds better while just playing a simple tone/filter sweep, but it only has one osc, with only two waveforms, and that weird 1/8 audio out. I know that's why it's only $200, but I feel like why not add a second osc, a proper audio out, and charge $300? Are there any others with both the 3340 and Moog ladder filter? (Neutron and Pro 1 don't have the ladder filter from what I understand, Model D doesn't use 3340)
I didn’t realise the crave had the ladder filter. I thought it was just the 3340z
Hi ! Thank you for this video.
What about the reverb ? We should have access to time and tone parameters... Without it's quite useless.
And i hope you will have your SH-5 soon !
Cheers.
Yea, I rarely use it on the GM. It's my least favourite bit tbh.
I am curious if you feel any difference on the bass low end as compared to the Grandmother. I did feel I difference on the Behringer Model D vs the Poly D - I have both.
do you prefer the bass more than the other on the B model D or the Poly ?
@@bigjayrillah3508 the Model D is a little fuller.
@@bigjayrillah3508I also have both and the Model D has a lot more drive. So the bass is very compressed and therefore trends more solid and low than the Poly D. However I prefer the loop back overdrive on the Poly D. They just sound different.
So this is just a mono then like the Grandmother/Matriarch (well, I suppose they’re para’)?
I have a matriarch… but man, if this had polyphony, I probably would’ve snatched it up :)
Missed opportunity, but I also get that these are supposed to basically be affordable clones with the odd extra feature thrown in
Great video as always! 💜
Just buy 4 and sync them together for a 4 voice poly Muthafoker!
@@georgewoolf6300lmao right? 😂 and probably still cheaper than a Matriarch. Might as well go 6 to lessen the voice stealing ;)
Damn, just dropped £280 on a Waldorf Blofeld 😅
12:09 It's so much like a Moog that we're calling it a Moog 😮
Nothing to regret.
@JuanUys ....thinking about whether buying a Waldorf was right when you hear a Moog makes me doubt your preferences...
Waldorf can do the same thing as Moog plus several infinite dimensions more. Not that Waldorf can do anything but compared to Moog it's just like comparing 1990s Amiga with some sampling software to a modern laptop with Ableton or whatever.
The Blofeld offers MILES more sonic opportunities, it’s an awesome bit of kit
Sounds good. Seems like an opportunity missed bringing out another mono synth instead of attempting something like a Matriarch in this form factor. Especially when the Grandmother is only $800 on Reverb.
i have a grandmother, would be nice to have this to do some stereo stuff
imagine if it actually sounded like the grandmother instead of the same old weak/tired, pale, soft, lifeless toy sound that Behringer continues to put out.
@@VagPoop_ if this had a moog label you wouldn't know the difference.

Tempting. But I’m holding out for the 2XM.
Does it react to velocity?
ten sinus i prostokąt jest tu genialny, nie dobrze, bo kupię go....chyba
I really wonder how strong their enthusiasm for emuin' is (with some kind of respect).
Compared to the Moog it has more inputs and outputs, doesn't it?
I'm tempted -- but I wanna hear a production model first.
Hi, I have a 2600 and I am thinking some ways to expand it with minimal budget. Options:
1 - Sequencer + arpegio (Model 15 or Crave)
2 - An eurorack starting with Maths and then braids
3 - Enigma (when available)
I will appreciate your opinion
I'm not sure what you'd get from having Maths and the 2600 tbh. It's a decent module for doing a lot of LFOs, envelopes etc but I can't see it working unless you have a lot more gear, as you've got 2 envelopes and an LFO already. Not saying it won't add anything, but not as much as this, which has an envelope, LFO plus the extras. Maths isn't cheap either. Braids is nice, and brings something extra. Enigma would also be good. Enigma would be my preference as it brings different tones plus extras.
Minitaur, Model D or This? Primarily for house and techno bass / sub.
I’ve avoided Behringer synths (just because I’m a gear snob). but honestly I might end up with a room full of them.
Ok but what about the sem two voice 😢 is it real, is it coming?
To me having no keyboard more attractive then Granny. Would be nice to have another envelope.
i wish Roger went for realesing a dsp reedition of a lynnDrum (like the regen) before they ever do....
Your local music retailer should have this in stock no later than 2026...maybe
I've got to say, this is pretty amazing for the price. They could've added another £150 and I bet people would still snap this up. It doesn't sound the slightest bit cheap. I look forward to more videos testing out with some music.
Powidz mi bracie jedno, czemu na każdym filmie następnym jesteśmy, coraz starsi? :-), dobry ten analog
Drool. 🤤
I keep putting off buying a Behringer mono because I can't decide which one I want, but the more I wait the list of options only gets longer.
I would pass on the Model D as some of them are horribly unstable to the point of being unusable. Maybe they have fixed the problem, but who knows?
@@hectorratt9586 My Model D is quite stable as far as I can tell. I have it always-on and if it does fall out of tune, it’s very slight. I have had it for a couple years now.
@@bcj842 That is fortunate. If they purchase it new and have any problems, they should be able to return it. It's not worth fixing mine as the repair would cost more than the unit. Behringer Doorstop.
Called it a Moog Model 15 at the end LOL
That’s a nice module, and even looks good for once (I’m not a big fan of Behringer in general, in special their design choices).
Just me or did I hear some aliasing in that filter sweep?
BCR32 please, Behringer
"IT'S HAPPENING!"
I'm still waiting for Behringer ''Model T''
You can have it in any colour as long as it’s black
The brandmother?
The behringer haters are gonna be uli grand bothered.
Since moog isnt even moog anymore theres officially zero reasons to go for a Gma
had a matriarch for 2 years and sold it and said Id never get a new one despite really liking its sound. $300 for that sound is a deal I simply cannot refuse. A shame that since that reverb is digital they couldnt include a digital recreation of the world renown delay though :(
Tbh this one looks better than the originals. More compact, better patch bay IMO and tbh the build quality looks better if not at the expense of some aesthetics. The whole time I had with my matriarch I was scared to death those little switches were gonna snap right off or the mod wheels were going to break. Also the firmware was SUPER buggy and it made it really hard to integrate with actual production aside from live recording.
Really looking forward to this one, and im someone who has sworn of behringer for burning me a few times.
Sounds kinda thin,or like it’s a lack of that body like I’m used to but I can beef up in my chain.
it's Behringer's latest best thing ever!!!! demo it today at your local Thing's Unnecessary.
Seems like someone at Moog pissed Uli off about 10 years ago.
It's weird how, in Canada's largest city, none of these new Behringer synths are actually available. no stock anywhere. It makes one wonder if these are just limited runs of products, going mostly to social influencers to create demand for a supply that's intentionally shorted. But the best synth is one that actually exists in people's hands. so don't believe the hype.
Im confused? Is Behringer working with creators again? :)
No. As I said I was asked to give my opinion on it ages ago.
Great video. I just can’t get into modular synths. To much sound design for this singer bass player
Bizarrely implemented sub oscillator function.
Yeah I’m not sure what’s going g in there -could be a pre production thing though.
Still doesnt quite have the eeeororrrwwww on the filter that moogs do
So it sounds more like a grandmother than a model 15 from the 70s?
Moog designs good synths. Down with moog!
😮
@@StarskyCarr just a little synth joke. (It’s true I’m not a fan of that company)
Love your channel though. Great videos
Same formfactor like Neutron/Pro-800?
They will need some space for the patch field, so it will have the formfactor like the Neutron (80 HP).
It can be first B! 😂
can someone please explain what the purpose of this thing is? it doesn't sound different than any other 2 oc synth from behringer
As mentioned in the video Anderton's say expected delivery time is 3 Months or longer, then we notice that Gear4Music are giving a date to be MID NOVEMBER 2024. So what is more likely? That one Uk Behringer dealer get their new stock 3 months earlier than another?
Best expect a pre X-Mas delivery time. The first batch is sure to sell out quick in pre-orders, so expect early 2025 for most of us. The Model 15's sequencer and arp look a handy addition as does the reverb.
Yet another Behringer desktop synth on many folks want list then. Barely one I do not want, it is just a case of getting the best price and their availability, they keep selling out!
you shoulda waited until you coulda provided an affiliate link :D
Er- wasn’t there going to be a VCS-3 clone? A little Synthi-inspired box? A SubHarmonicon clone? I’m not by nature a Behringer hater, but I unequivocally loathe their habit of trailing stuff years and years and years before release. That said, I’ll probably get this once the rush dies down- but I really want a VCS-3. Sort it out guys.
GRAMMY or MODEL GM.
Name has to fit in the letter space.
When you were demoing the lfo you only had the modulation knob at 50% that's why you weren't getting full modulation 🤓
Haha.. yeah maybe! Good opportunity to play with the patchbay though!
Is it only CV, or can we use midi? That is what I miss with the Model D. no save able presets
Their Eurorack models always have a MIDI IN jack.
I’m using midi in the video.
@@StarskyCarr I'll have to look again. I just want to be able to automise all functions
@@MasterIvo You can't automate anything, MIDI only works with note and velocity - not CCs - just like the GM.
@@StarskyCarr that was what I suspected. True anolog. not for me
