Thank you for this enthusiastic and eloquent reaction. The voice, the charisma and the physicality. He really sings with his whole being. Love it!
Thank you again, William. I love your posts. I too love the Messiah. Jakub is incredible. Thank you.
This is a fantastic aria, and that sustained note at 5:04 is just incredible. Then at the end Orlinski just lays on ALL the dynamics like messa di voce, vibrato, glottal stops, everything. Wow
When the recording was made, Jakub was only 27 years old. This is a live performance so most likely the most authentic, no extra filtering, corrections etc. Besides his fantastic voice and singing, I like how he phenomenally cooperates with the conductor and orchestra. That's one of the most coherent performances of this aria I have ever heard. They just complement each other. Fantastic! He is a true, charismatic artist, not a boring generic performer.
So true!! How he listens and responds is wonderful. Also because it’s a big orchestra and hall, he is compelled to project and create a very full legato line. None of his consonants get in the way of his singing and he uses lots of chest notes which I think are much needed and often neglected by countertenors. 🎵
@@BangkokVoiceCoach You truly understand singing, not only the technical aspects but the meaning behind the piece. Kudos sir
I'm listening to Jakub Orliński and I have goosebumps, but I also get goosebumps seeing William's reaction.
Even the "simple" phrases he's singing catch your attention.... He is brilliant.
one of the best in the world for a reason, and I think the level is just going up with time. Farinelli himself would've claimed he has made a deal with the devil, for starters not being castrati yet being able to sing so proficiently as a countertenor
Well, William I stopped by for this wonderful video today and I'm so glad I did. I have missed quit a bunch but one of these days I plan on coming back to listen to all I've missed as I really do enjoy your reactions and expert insights! See you soon! Thank you!!
What a gorgeous angelic voice! Amazing :) Thank you William.
Have you heard him before?
I think that I heard a snippet once, but it was only a hint. I love a good voice! I have a hard time listening to anything else, unless it is something like early Bob Dylan :D@@BangkokVoiceCoach
You did a fabulous review of this incredible performance by Jakub. I love Andeas Scholl’s rendition, which is equally stunning but a bit more traditional. This music is a delight for the soul!
So, funny that you mentioned Emma Kirby. I saw her in the 1970s in a performance of Messiah conducted by Christopher Hogwood. I was in my early 20s and not very musically sophisticated. I loved the choral parts of Messiah but thought the solos were boring. The soloists sounded so unnatural to me at that time. Then Emma Kirby started singing and a new world opened up for me. Because of her I was able to appreciate the solo soprano voice (and then over time all of the other voices). Sometimes a takes a really exceptional singer to do that. I think Orlinski is an exceptional singer who is enabling a lot of people to appreciate the counter tenor voice and Baroque music. There is a CZcams video of him and Dame Emma singing Bach together - truly a beautiful mix of the voices of two exceptional singers
I have watched Orlinski in a production of Handel's wonderful opera "Rodelinda" where he plays the part of Unulfo and he actually performs a break dance on stage prior to singing the wonderful song "Un zefiro" when he finds out the key to his imprisoned master;s cell has been discovered and the master will soon be freed.
I saw him do a no-hands cartwheel during a performance of Il Pomo 😊
My all time favorite version of this is with Yoshikazu Mera and the Bach Collegium Japan.
Beautiful voice! Arr tou interested in bass voices? Beautiful ones?
I would like you to listen to Avi Kaplans voice. He just released a new song called Healing. It's in the Americana genre but beautiful nonetheless.
I will check that, thank you.
